Have Chelsea Completely Lost Their Minds?

- Chelsea spent more money on wages, more money on transfer fees, and sustained heavier losses than any other Premier League team under Roman Abramovich.
Now the Russian is gone, replaced by a consortium led by Todd Boehly, yet Chelsea are still on course for the highest spending transfer window of all time if they manage to complete deals for Wesley Fofana and Frenkie de Jong this summer.
It’s a level of investment that has taken many by surprise, so in this video, HITC Sevens takes a look at Chelsea’s new owners, their transfer business, and whether they are risking the club’s future. - Sport
Liverpool fans know what happens when a Club’s owner relies heavily on loans to build/redevelop a stadium. For Chelsea’s sake I hope they succeed in that endeavour.
I would argue that the point made regarding the Arsenal/Spurs transitional season needs to be compared to Chelsea's form after sanctions against Abramovich were announced.
Day 17:
A detailed look at the state of Crotone would be nice, going from Serie A in 20/21 with a 20 goal a season striker (Simy) to Serie C by 22/23. Two relegations in a row, something surely has to be wrong at that club.
Nothing wrong with the club they were suprise promotion with a small.squad and when got relegated that had to sell most the squad so they mainly just have youngster's now
It really isn't strange to see clubs who are relegated to the second division follow suit with another relegation. If the clubs foundations aren't solid enough and are not financially prepared when they are relegated to second division the shockwave will be felt across several years
@@96wtfomg And carried by a couple of talismen who weren’t seen as legitimate until they carried Crotone up through the ranks and performed quite effectively in Serie A despite the squad’s other issues (namely Junior Messias (AC Milan) and Simy (Salernitana)).

I second that
‘Alonso is terrible cover for the wing backs, he’s not good enough’. Chelsea sign a top quality back up, sure they overpaid but it was massively needed and the club gets abused for it? Seem to forget chilwell was out pretty much all season and we fell of a cliff as soon as him and Reece James got injuries. I thought having great depth was crucial to compete with teams like city and liverpool? Apparently not.
bring back moses
People laugh at Chelsea when they don’t have two first team squads then complain when Chelsea begin forming two first team squads. There was no uproar when City wanted Cucurella while having Cancelo and Zinchenko but when Chelsea get involved it’s disgusting for the game. Can’t win, people will always hate
The over-spending is the issue more than Chelsea getting better squad depth. The issue with Chelsea is always their over-spending. Same goes for Man City and Man Utd.
There were far more cheaper and capable options in the transfer window earlier e.g tagliafico, angelino, and raum. If they were serious they would've gotten them instead of overspending
@@kidserivona7137 tagliafico is also older and all are unproven in the prem. Potentially being as bad if not worse than Alonso. But your not wrong
Chilwell is still recovering from said injury and there is no way he would perform on the level he was right after coming back. Cucurella was, in my opinion, not just a smart buy but an essential one. For the time being, Silva will have to work tirelessly till Chilwell gains fitness/confidence. One of them will sooner rather than later play LCB as the seasons shifts.
Don't see either of them turning into backups long term and I am pretty sure they will both play down the left together in the long run.
I agree with this, I really like Chilwell and I don't want to see him on our bench
I think Cucurella will shift to LCB as he played there a couple times last season
Until he got his goofy hair pulled like a bitch
Livramento and Lamptey both wanted out propably because of James so it was good to sell them instead of letting them run out contract and letting them move freely...

Chelsea might struggle for a pair of seasons but I think they’ll be okay overall. The secret these days is finding the proper staff to run the operation and though they’re new to world football, the new owners will figure it out. This season is going to be the growing pains season. The next they’ll learn to crawl and the following they’ll be able to walk.
Wholeheartedly agree. Its not wealth that wins trophies its the backroom operations/directors ect. Look at Man Utd, AC Milan Chinese owners, Everton all threw money at signings and failed. Man City, Liverpool and Bayern have the best boards and directors in the game and it shows

Chelsea, PSG and Man City are all apparently debt free. Of course that means that FFP applies a bit different as a result of that.
They SHOULD be Billions in debt but they are not coz their owners are their creditors who pumped all the cash into the clubs. Clubs with normal-ish ownership or fan ownership cannot just have an oligarch/ state fund just wave their negative net expenditure away
You'd think Raheem Sterling would be £47m that guarantees goals, but then you'd have assumed the same with £50m thrown at Torres, probably the same assumption with Lukaku and at least figured to get more from Werner.... hope he does well, but maybe won't be a huge shock if his goal return is much lower than it has been in recent seasons?
I think he suits the formation better, feels like Tuchel likes to play with a false 9 and inside forwards, so yes, he could be a success, but at the same time it's not unthinkable he should flop either, kinda don't know what to expect of Chelsea this season, I suspect they'll at the very least challenge for top 4 but whether they get there all depends on the new signings and how they do

It's really too early to tell - Chelsea this season could be one of those teams that gets results ugly.
Spurs and Arsenal are capable of throwing in awful games and though they could have a lot of big wins and score a lot of goals they could also have a number of bad losses each.
Liverpool look like they're going through a transition....Losing Mane may turn out to be a bigger loss than anyone imagined - I feel like they're going to have a bad season.
Man City will probably storm the League to join Huddersfield and Man U as three time champions {in a row}.
But second place is up for grabs - It could go to Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs OR Chelsea.
Liverpool should be fine as they arguably upgraded from Mane to Nunez but I believe that Chelsea FC will definitely struggle this Season … 👀. ⚽️

Well done mate, I stood up and literally clapped at the end of this video. You have done proper research and have tried to balance both subjective and objective opinion. I would add that the Boehly era is a silver age for Chelsea, I see a more thrifty set up all the marketing schindig is to see how effective assets(players) can balance the books and how much they can achieve remaining in top four. The buying of players like Koulibaly, Sterling and Cucurella using data software show that the introduction of a scientific managment system which was probably used in the last administration but wasn' t intergrated based on the economic prospects of the Chelsea football club.
Todd want's to take advantage of the marketing aspects of the football club and this would possibly mean building a stadium and obviously I don't see how much of Stanford can be expanded given its location.
There has been a trend among the US owners that once they acquire new landed assets, they is a marked decrease in overall investment in transfers till the silver-lining of probabilty lines their pockets. I am not wholly enthusiastic at the Boehly project as I remain skeptically enthused at best, but I will continue to assess crtically what these genlemen have to offer, especially in the aspects of branding and merchandising.
Sit back down.

Well, there's something called amortization. Clubs don't pay the transfer fees all at once, but over a bigger amount of time (3 to 4 years). So, Chelsea can spend a lot this window and less next year to balance the accounts.
Plus, Lukaku(loan), Werner are gone and Alonso, Odoi and maybe Ziyech will be sold. They have made room for more wages.

Alfie, unfortunately you missed out SOOO much context to why Chelsea are spending so much this window. Firstly, replacing Rudiger, Christensen and Lukaka was necesary. Secondly, Chelsea have needed solid cover at LWB/LB for years, just ask any Chelsea fan how they feel about Alonso and you will get my point. Thirdly we are PATHETIC upfront when it comes to goal scoring and that needed urgent fixing starting with Sterling. Nobody outside of Chelsea fans also seem to know that Cucurella's price was only inflated because Brighton insisted on adding Levi Colwill (our 19yr old wonderkid CB) to the deal on a permanent transfer, and we opted to pay a little extra to only have him go out on loan so we have him back next season (excellent decision imo as we have lost too many quality youngsters lately)... and oh btw, Cucurella is a FANTASTIC player!!!!
