I love when the two Cartmans are in the same frame they have a visible line between them indicating those old camera tricks trying to fit the same actor into a scene with themselves.
episodes like this are from back when matt and trey were still trying to figure out how far they could push the envelope and still get away with. this was their most creative time because they basically just took whatever wackiest idea they could think of and just ran with it lol.

My theory is that Stan did send the real Cartman to the evil universe and either the real Cartman turned good and bow to the demands of Evil Stan and Kyle knowing that the alter-Cartman would be his opposite in everyway (except black and skinny) and as long as he's making the real Kyle suffer, he'll put himself in that misery if he has to, or that no matter which Cartman got sent to the Evil Universe, it would just be some rule of balance between both universes that the Cartman in the real world has to be evil while the Cartman in the evil universe has to be good
Interesting observation in the end, Quizzy. I totally agree. The seasons at this time seemed to have more lucid plots than the ones they do now. This episode was quite interestng in that it deals with the concept of parallel dimensions and interdimensional travel, and this episode made me think of that German noun that refers specifically to someone that is your total opposite but the same appearnce as u....its called a Doppelganger.
