- Insulating a van floor is a non negotiable aspect of converting a van as it's one of the primary areas in which cold air can enter the van. In this video, I'll show you how I laid out and insulate the floor of the van in preparation for installing plywood.
This series has now moved to the new Matt's Van Channel!

My name is Matt Estlea, I'm a 27 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.
I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a further 1 year working as an Artist in Residence at the Sylva Foundation. I now teach City and Guilds Furniture Making at Rycotewood as of September 2018.
I also had 5 years of experience working at Axminster Tools and Machinery where I helped customers with purchasing tools, demonstrated in stores and events, and gained extensive knowledge about a variety of tools and brands.
During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite 'Tool Duel' where I compare two competitive manufacturers tools against one another to find out which is best.
I like to have a laugh and my videos are quite fast paced BUT you will learn a lot, I assure you.
Lets go make a mess.

MATT ESTLEA WOODWORK 2019
Due to the popularity of this Van Conversion series, I am relocating it to a dedicated Van Conversion Channel! youtube.com/@mattsvan
Uploads will stop on this channel after Part 15 and move to the new channel.
The Matt Estlea 2 Channel was originally for shitposting and used as a proving ground for ideas we have, without the risk of damaging the main channels (Matt Estlea) ranking in CZcamss search algorithms. Ideally we'd like to continue using it for this purpose, but are concious of clogging up the feeds of people who only signed up for van related content. Hence the dedicated channel.
It also means I can use the dedicated channel for travel vlogs and other van related content once the conversion is complete which sounds fun. Go subscribe!

WAIT A MINUTE
Oh yes I remember the lovely autumn we were having in sept… seems a distant memory now!
I'm glad seeing you back! I already was worried what happened with you since your last video...
Nice to see the build coming along
oh boi, here we go again. I love this series!
Everyone makes the same mistake when fitting out a 906. Flying over or boxing in the area around the sliding door B-pillar and the "cheap plastic bit"
The doorstep needs clearance there in order to be removed for any maintenance or repair of the lower sliding door mechanism, wiring etc.
Other than that, nice job👍
Ooo I haven’t actually fitted the panelling there yet. I’ll make sure to make it removable. Cheers!
@MattEstlea2 definitely worth making anything around the sliding door step either removable or with clearance.
Don't want to sound like one of these CZcams couch experts and just passing on my experience.
You do great work and I can see that you're a clever guy.
All the best with the channel 👍
@@rafo6577 Makes a big difference when it’s constructive criticism! Appreciate it :)
Floooooooors!
Did you consider using insulation backed plywood on the floor to avoid the thermal bridging from the battons? Or are you not super worried given that it's a camper van and not a residential home?
You know everything John Snow
Hi Matt, did you do any thing with those holes on the floor? Thanks
Hey man! What did you use for the shims between the floor ribs? How did you get the exactly to the height you wanted?
Wouldn't the glue used to fix baterns to the van floor come apart over time as when the van is being
driven the floor flexs, bows and contracts. Surely this would cause the glue to break away from the floor?
Wood not being the size stated is one of my pet hates. Why can't it either be prepared to the size stated or advertised as it actual size ?
I know 😅 I’m sure there’s good reason for it. But I’m certainly not aware of it
