    Kick ass playing. I have the Browne Atom and it doesn't do what this pedal does. The Shanks like takes your tone and sweetens it in all areas. It cleans up so well and then you can attack it and it responds. Ugggh, I need this thing!

      Thanks a lot! the shanks ods-1 is a great pedal. Let me recommend another, too that has now become my favourite Nobels style overdrive. It's called the "Buckartie-Boo" by Apollo Approved. You can contact him on instagram to purchase his pedals. The Buckartie Boo is Not true bypass, like the original Nobels, and the "feel" of the pedal is excellent and I prefer it to the Shanks, BUT the shanks is also a fantastic pedal and has that classic Vemuram sound. If you want as close to the original Nobels as possible, Get the Buckartie-boo. Amazing pedal.

      @jamesemerson4102  Před měsícem

      Thanks for watching the demo! I don't have a royal blue anymore but I did have one at one point. It is an excellent pedal and I would say that there are some similarities. I think the Royal blue shines most with a Strat as it has an amazing clean up effect that sort of unloads the pickups - almost like a treble bleed effect. It does that better than any pedal I have tried. It also has a Bass and treble EQ which is super useful. The shanks shines with a Tele or humbucker IMO and has a lot of bottom end. Nice harmonic content. Does the nashville thing very well, but check out the Apollo Approved Buckartie-Boo which I think is even better than the Shanks.

  • @ssolred
    @ssolred Před rokem

    What a great tone and tasty playing! I just got this pedal and I can say it’s really powerfull and meaty, but what bothers me a bit is its darkness when the tone knob is set not further than at 4 o’clock. Even with increased trebles in my amp (Marshall DSL, guitar - Gibson Es 339) it still is kind of muted and not enough delfined in bottom end (trebles are just right). So I wonder if it’s a matter of this particular item I have or this is simply the character of a pedal. Did you have a similar experience?

    • @jamesemerson4102
      @jamesemerson4102  Před rokem

      Thanks mate! Thanks for watching. I find with my amps, most pedals are too dark on those settings. My amps aren't super bright. I sold this pedal but not because it didn't sound good. I don't think this pedal sounds as good with humbuckers though as it does with a strat. It had a little too much bass for my liking.

    • @ssolred
      @ssolred Před rokem

      Thanks for your reply. Well, I sent mine back too and decided to stick to my BB Preamp 1.5, which sounds great with humbuckers and for slightly lower gain - Jan Ray, which is somewhat dark too, but at the same time very tweakable with bass and treble knobs, so the darkness doesn’t prevail.

    @StratTones Před 3 lety

    Well, I finally got one and rocked it for a few hours yesterday.. You did a great job of highlighting the best of the pedal because mine isn’t going to make it on the board. Too bassy, even though I love major low end. May use it as a quasi fuzz/bridge pickup lead only. Still great.
    I highly recommend you try the Ibanez TSV808.. it’s mega and the best drive to date I’ve played. Gotta turn the saturation on it all the way up and set both internal dip switches to the left for the punchiest setting and headroom. Let me know if you do, you’ll be glad you did.

    • @jamesemerson4102
      @jamesemerson4102  Před 3 lety

      did you mess with the bass trimmer? you can roll the bass all the way off. I don't find it too bassy at all but I don't run the gain high. It does add a bit of fatness to the sound but I like that. I would like to try the TSV808 but it's just too expensive and I don't see them come up for sale very often at all.

    • @StratTones
      @StratTones Před 3 lety

      James Emerson yes, bass is off. Well, it’s only like $140-$150 more than the ods and considering it’s the best overdrive pedal ever, you should maybe sell one that’s not so hot and grab one of these. There I think 8 on Reverb.com
