It's good to see all those good comments about John, a wonderful person, a talented banjo player, a loving son.

john was 4th generation picker. definately one of the best by far. the banjo hes playing there is the original. we learned to play instruments together when we were barely 8 and 10. classic john sound and demeanor...thanks to whomever posted this. i was out of state when he got sick on the way to that show way back when...my best friend growing up. such a sweet and blessed heart in that man. miss my bubby...

I got to know John some during the last couple of years of his life; he worked in our band, Union Springs for a little while, along with Jamie Johnson (now with the Grascals), and we also worked some shows together with Jim McCall. Great picker, and a good, sweet man.

I’ve been playing the banjo all my life and John has always been one of the pickers I look up to.

Jon, Hey ! I didn't know you ever knew John. He was a great friend in hard times and truly one of the best banjo players I ever heard. Small world ! At least Bluegrass world. Say hello to Chris and Ned for me buddy

I knew John Masters. I play banjo. He was more than a picker. Ask his bandmates.
He was a highly responsible, talented, and hard working guy. jtmasters13, this is awfully good picking. Be proud.

The correct title for this song is "These Blues They Got Me." Larry Sparks recorded it for his 1981 album "Ramblin' Letters."

I just ran across this YT and my message is for John's son. I posted earlier. This isnt about being as good as your Dad on banjo. Rather, take a breath, its about feeling good about yourself. Your Dad was pretty specific - work on your own skills and values. The rest will follow. Enjoy your lovely inheritance.Your Dad was quality.

dogsee....I'd like you to think before you post.I'd bet you didn't know John or anything about him. Makes me sick to read someone say something like that about someone that I loved.
If you have the slightest idea of who John was and what he meant to his friends you wouldn't be able live with yourself. Shame on you.
