    The TV of my early childhood in the 1960s. I can still remember watching Casey Jones and Dr Who on it.

    Thankyou so much for taking the time to video and upload - I'm new here but I've been watching for some time and I absolutely love it! I find you and your topic really engaging and I really appreciate your hard work

    That's fantastic! I also saw this set, and very nearly bought it, but as soon as I started to look closely at it someone yelled NO!! at me and dragged me away... I was the guy carrying the big Radio Rentals/Ekco bakelite radio, which I still haven't looked at properly yet!

      Ah indeed! I remember our meeting. For a tenner I couldn't say know, looking at previous work I'm surprised at it's performance.

    Brilliant video once again!
    I think the last place i’d want to put 100 year old caps would be in the EHT cage! They seem to be holding up okay. True testament to their quality.
    I remember that thread as I was restoring my own GEC (BT318) at the time. The input from the experienced members actually taught me a fair bit about my own, even though I watched from the sidelines.
    Fantastic result with yours. Glad it’s worth restoring.

    Seems like months now not just 2 weeks, the set I have came from Farmers TV shop in Matlock and the reason it has no case one of there customers owns Gullivers Kingdom in Matlock bath and they wanted an old looking TV set but fitted with a new LCD inside to be on display on one of the rides, so the cabinet is still around!

    What a brilliant outcome! I enjoyed that. I have a GEC BT304 here which I may take the same approach with. Thanks as ever 📺

    That's insane! £10 well spent, the tube or the LOPX would be worth that alone but I'd say it's definitely a do-er - upper! That set wants to live!

    Brilliant stuff, well done for keeping the faith! 405 line sets don't die. With a tube that good just think how good the picture will be with a few decent caps and a tuner service.

    I've been waiting for this! I was chatting to you when you were looking at the GEC at Retrotech and was wondering whether you had taken a look at the old girl yet. What an unexpectedly great result! And I agree with your thoughts about coaxing a set gently into life to see that the basics are OK before you start changing caps left right and centre. Good man!

    The mains filter cap is the only one I routinely replace before powering up. Loud bangs aren't good for me 😅. I had one similar, a BT318, which I restored years ago. I sold it last year to Courtney who I hope is cherishing it. If I'd got more room, it'd still be in my collection.

    They built them well back in the day - I wonder how many of today's sets will still be working several decades later? Great video 👍

      @mmwaashumslowww7167 Před rokem +1

      They were proud to build them and back in the day tv's had a certain kind of magic about them. Many controls and the fun of alignment of the convergence panel. I spent many hours messing around with them when I was young, while the others went to the pub.

    Great video! I was quite disappointed with retro tech, there were very few vintage tvs there and it seemed a great majority of stalls were just full of junk that people were trying to sell.
