Hi Guys welcome back to the channel. For those of you who are new, Hi my names Matt and I'm a Junior Doctor currently working in the UKs national health service and today I want to talk to you about Robots.
So the pandemic has changed the healthcare world rapidly. We're now doing more telemedicine than ever before, fantastic new vaccines are coming into the market using revolutionary methods of production, and everything just feels different in the health tech space. Now don't get me wrong, the pandemic has been a truly worldwide disaster and I don't think anybody would be able to say it hadn't taken a toll on them, but if their is one good thing to come out of all of this, the change in opinion to health innovation has been incredible. Where once people where very reticent to invest or fund health tech, now money is flooding into the sector. And with the incredible success of the vaccine technology and many successful shifts to telemedicine platforms, I think everyone is really excited about the future of health tech.
So we all know about how effective telemedicine has been, as well as the amazing tech surrounding the vaccines. But one thing I think has gone a little under the radar is how robotic technology within healthcare has also been accelerated by the pandemic, and a great example of this is the Moxi robot by diligent robotics.

Thank you so much for such a detailed analysis of my baby. We have exciting new features coming for moxi really soon. Hopefully we can give time back to nurses so that they can do what they were trained to do instead of running around. Definitely subscribing to you.

You are severely under-rated. Great work as always and looking forward to you getting your first 1m subscribers!

The only useful robots in medicine that I have seen. And I designed the Dutch standard protocol for. Are medication order pick robots.
That increases te efficiency of a pharmacy, enormously.
And I adore the Baxter robots, that do individual pills. That’s for repeating medication, and it will pick all the pills an individual needs during a day and seals them in individual heat shrinked plastic bags. So you get a whole strip and you just tear of one and you have your daily meds. Also ideal for care homes, and saves on human error.

Another great vid from TDD - always got his finger on the pulse of tech innovation in medicine!
Honest opinion - I don’t think this would work in the NHS. It’s very cool tech, and would be cool to have on a ward, however it’s benefit (reduced potential infection, cost compared to hiring more staff) doesn’t outweigh the negatives; I can’t think of a ward based job that this robot does better/fast than, or equal to any human. From the videos it looks like it would take 10/15 minutes for it to collect a catheter, and that’s not including the time it takes for the request to go out/register!
It’s a interesting Segway for robotics to be used in medicine, but for me, it doesn’t fix a problem nor would it make a ward work better/more efficiently.
Love to see what TDD has got next!
