They could have still enforced the stamina system by doubling the stamina cost if you use a character solo or something, but they just brute force a very specific way of playing, and I can't say I like it even if I cleared all rewards in one sitting.

    The event just felt frustrating. It's the word that's been beating in my head as I was slogging through the stages. It's frustrating to be forced into using random characters and repeatedly not getting a new one you need. Concerning how many built characters I have, I barely had enough lvl 70s for the hardest stage, only about 2/3 of them properly built.I had then to change to normal difficulty because I was getting too mad. Finished 6 stages and I honestly haven't enjoyed it at all.

      I get what they want from this type of endgame: they want players to build more characters properly (which would mean not just levelling them but everyone having their own set of artifacts they don't share), which is probably generally a good idea: you'll always be prepared for any type of event and you'll have the opportunity to find new characters to play but MAN they really failed at this.

    I recently transitioned from horizontal to vertical investment. The returns from horizontal investment weren't satisfying anymore, so I decided to start building all characters in my account and get my fun and satisfaction from playing all sorts of team comps. So when IT was announced, I was happy - it felt like an answer to my decision, it just felt RIGHT.
    Then I tried it out, and I absolutely hate it. I can try out different characters, even characters I don't own, in my teams - that part is amazing, and if it was just that, I could see myself going in there constantly just to try out different comps, see how they work, who should I aim to get, etc.
    But there are these dumb restrictions... The limited, initial character selection... the stamina system... the RNG in getting a new character....
    It made IT go from a fun game mode that encourages you to build many characters and lets you try out all sorts of comps, to a game mode that doesn't let you play the team comps you want to play, instead it forces you to complete time-limited stages with completely random teams that often don't have any synergy whatsoever, and often feel incredibly bad to play.
    Like I was in one stage with THREE on-field DPS-es because I had nobody else to take in there.
    Half of my team literally couldn't do anything, and the other two were struggling to clear with essentially a half-team, and there I was knowing darn well that wasting my DPS-es like this will lead to me running out of DPS-es, and having to run teams where NOBODY is fit to deal damage on-field.
    How is that supposed to feel like I'm having fun, and make me want to go back to play this mode? It doesn't.
    It just wastes a lot of time only for the combat to feel awful. I can't even be bothered to play it anymore, it just feels THAT bad to me. Not even the primos make it worth it for me.
    I'll just go into the open world and lower abyss levels and test my teams there, completely ignoring this mess of a game mode.

      @TarZBlammo  Před měsícem

      The replayability of this mode is non-existent with the current setup. I honestly don't get why they decided to implement a mode like this without replayability. If the whole point was to get people to use their characters more, the mode more or less does the opposite.

  • @user89389
    @user89389 Před měsícem +1

    An idea. If they wanted to get players to build and use a variety of characters and teams, instead of limiting players' ability to play who they want with all these rules, they should've just rewarded players who go in with a variety of characters and teams.
    If they wanted to go with stars, they could've made it so that stars are based on
    1. how fast you can clear (not with a countdown to 0, but a stopper that stops when you finish - so players can take as long as they want, they'll just get less stars the longer they take)
    2. how many characters you bring in and/ or how many types of reactions you proc.
    That's it.
    That alleviates the stress on players who DON'T have many characters built - they could still clear it and get clearance rewards, but say, they would have 0 stars for brining the same team every time.
    It gives players a reason to build more characters - because the more characters you use and more reactions you proc, the more stars you get.
    It motivates you to use those characters creatively but efficiently, and build teams that actually work together and do something - because what matters isn't just the number of characters and reactions, but the clearance time, too. You'll want more characters that make more teams, but you'll want those teams to make sense.
    But it could use a completely different system. You could perhaps showcase the number of characters used and the number of different reactions procced consistently and base rewards on that, just to really rewards those who get creative.
    All in all it does what it's supposed to do. It gives a reason for players to think outside of the box, but without the limitations that spoils the fun. It gives players the freedom to choose how they want to play - and IMO that's the most important thing in a game, letting players play how they want to play.
    And I believe this would've been easier to set up than all of the rules, RNG system, stamina, penalties, etc. limitations they implemented.
    And this? This I came up with after a few MINUTES of thinking.
    If you got people to actually sit down and brainstorm, you could come up with such a cool system that's worked out much better than my idea.
    I don't know why the devs are so hell-bent on forcing players to do things with limitations and adding in countdowns. They should really reverse their thinking, to be honest.

    I'm very well invested in a couple of characters, but none started to get suuuper strong until Arlecchino and Furina + Neuvilette.
    But even though I have mostly played overload teams with swirl in the past, it still took me multiple attempts to beat it, simply due to bad luck. Bad buffs, weird team compositions, bad pulls and weird damage spikes towards me (one shot vs No damage the next moment) made this mode weirdly frustrating to deal with.
    On my 3rd attempt I got good buffs, stacked a couple of characters due to having two good companion pulls and from there it was a breeze. I was basically stacked before the first boss. Any difficulty suddenly was gone and it felt less hard than the Abyss by far.
    Turns out I don't like this mode a lot, not just because of missing QoL and other factors around limitations, but because the way it guts you in strength can be detrimental depending on who is actually in your team and what kind of weird combo they start you with. If I have to deploy my DPS as a 4-man combo I usually do something wrong, but sometimes it's just what I pulled and then ended up with 4 supports and a non fitting sub DPS for the last boss. It's way too random and not in a good way.
    Also:
    Being able to select a helper from a friend is nice and all, but locking them per season instead of per playthrough sucks. I pulled a lvl90 Raiden from someone in because I don't have her and thought she might be strong, but they seem to have taken artifacts off of her and now she did no damage, no reactions and plainly sucked harder than loosing a 50/50 to Diyah or Qiqi. Why can't I change her for e.g. a lvl 90 Alloy that's actually built? Why is this locked 'permanently'??

    personally i enjoy imaginarium theater because it makes you use so many characters, as someone who builds characters i really like ones that often don't perform well in abyss, (like freminet who cant effectively use his kit on boss opponents) its nice to be able to use them in a setting other than the open world that will actually become a small challenge.
    i believe that Hoyo is trying to encourage players to invest into more units other than that same 8 for abyss every rotation, I will admit that i do invest horizontally, in that majority of the characters i own are 70+ and have alright artifact sets, making Imaginarium Theater easier for me, but that also means abyss is harder for me. This makes Imaginarium Theater a nice alternative to genshin's end game content for players who also invest horizontally.
    I will say that the restrictions are pretty unfair, as some people may not invest into certain elements as much as others, geo comes to mind due to how little charaters we have, and how many are limited five stars,
    i will say that it is disappointing that Abyss rewards were cut, and id much rather see the two give an equal amount of rewards, as Imaginarium theater gives less than spiral even with the cut from 1200 down to 800, ( for reference Imaginarium Theater only give 620 each reset).
    over all i think hoyo made Imaginarium Theater to cater to the players who find abyss hard.

    The only part that makes me dislike it is the rng and forced 4 teammates, I had a few runs until it finally gave me the characters I needed and I cleared it Act8 and 7 flowers with characters on quick select artifacts(¾ of them were lvl 0) and lvl 50 weapons. So it doesn't even force you to build characters just replay it until you get it.

  • @ChiriKain
    @ChiriKain Před měsícem +2

    agree on the first part, feels like a random event rather than an end game mode, the team comp restrictions and everything else limits the replayability, i did it once and im not touching it till next time, while abyss i keep playing testing characters, teams, etc.
    but disagree on the divisive part, nothing wrong with a game mode that encourage to build more chars, it get stale playing the same couple of teams all the time, also they let you use trial chars, for example on this rotatiton i only used my kuki, all the rest i used the trial chars since i didnt have half of those and the other half i have them but not built. its too bad they dont let you play good team comps with all the randomness.
    besides the issues i liked ambiance, the voiced dialogs and the setup, if they fix some of those problems it could be fine.

    I wish endgame wasn’t so one-and-done with Genshin. Every reset it’s just “do thing once and then wait for the next reset in a month”. Not to beat the long dead horse that is comparing Genshin to Star Rail, but Simulated Universe outside of the weekly resets is both fun and (almost) endlessly replayable with different choices as to what I can do.
    I will jump into a Simulated Universe run even when my weekly rewards are maxed just because I have that much fun in the mode (and the new Divergent Universe has a long term level reward so it incentivizes more play of it sooo yeah get that thing asap Genshin.)
    My only positive? I get to use my friend’s characters… once… before I’m locked out of their use for a season. Happy to use one of my friend’s Raiden, not again until next electro season tho!

      I would agree - I think giving people a reason to invest into more characters and play different teams is a great idea. But this game mode is terrible for that, because of the randomness and the stamina system.
      I mean, what's the point of trying to come up with new team comps, when you can't even choose to play them? You might not even get the characters that would be essential in there, the ones you wanted to play, or you can easily be forced to take members of the team with completely random teams and waste their stamina, because you HAVE to always bring a team of 4. By the time you get all of the characters you wanted to use together, half of the team could very well be out of stamina and unplayable.
      This game mode is literally just the game version of that "Random BS, GO!!!!" meme. And not in the fun way.
      The idea is good. But the execution is terrible.

  • @taederias1804
    @taederias1804 Před měsícem

    On the one hand, an endgame structure that rewards both vertical _and_ horizontal investment definitely feels better. So part of the problem is just that which is brought on by any change: those who specifically invested time / resources into that which was before will inevitably feel like they should have done it differently once things change, but sometimes changes still do need to be made.
    I would also argue that the elemental restrictions on their own can make one discover characters and playstyles they would not have otherwise, instead of relying on the same old setups.
    What does feel excessive on top of that is the character selection rng, because that makes it very hard to actually plan ahead and use teams that have any kind of synergy. Also, the boons are generally overly specific, which clashes heavily with the lack of control on character selection. The rerolling of the cards, element-specific character selection cards and whatnot do kind of allow one to get by, but it is still not ideal.
    I feel that either the character selection should be made so you have more control; or better yet, the boons should be made more significant, more game changing, and more generally applicable: making it so that you can opt to make crazy teams built around the boons you got even from a limited selection of characters. (At the moment, if you go for boons, you will get even fewer characters to choose from, and might end up getting very little value from the currency used regardless.) Of course, with more powerful boons, the enemies should also be significantly buffed so that you can and should make use of either decently put together teams or wackier teams but with an assortment of crazier buffs.

  • @Crysox
    @Crysox Před měsícem +4

    While I agree that there are some flaws, I really like that new endgame mode.
    As someone who likes to build a lot of characters it feels great to be able to use them more! Abyss floor 12 encourages you to build a few strong characters, but as someone who doesn't use meta characters like Bennet, Arlecchino, Neuvillette, Kazuha or Furina, it is sometimes hard to get 36 Stars (these 5 alone almost feel needed in some chambers eventhough there are like 80 units in the game) so it's great to finally be able to use any character on an easier endgame content.
    I insist that this endgame is EASIER, yes you need more artifacts since you use more characters, but you don't need them to have 30% crit damage in their substats. And complaining about having not enough built characters sounds weird since it is an endgame content, meaning you'll get there eventually. And on top of that you don't even need to clear the hardest setup to get all the primos in contrast to abyss.
    So yeah the gamemode isn't perfect but I think they did a pretty good job making an original endgame content that is not just abyss 2. I understand most people don't agree but I'm tired of hearing the communiy wanting new endgame content then crying because it's not like the spiral abyss

    I think you hit everything right on the spot if I'm being honest. This mode, as well as every "new feature" like more resin and such, feels like an impulsive response to WuWa's release.
    If this mode was introduced like SU SD was, so wayyyyy before in the game, it wouldn't have been an issue. But it's only after almost 4 years that I learn I need to do horizontal and vertical investment. Talk about a disappointement and a joke.
    Truth is, Hoyo cannot make Genshin have good endgame content, because of how the game's dodge mechanic works, and how much extremely casual players there are. And I'm not talking "won't do gold and gears conundrum 12" type of casual, I'm talking won't touch Gold and gears at all.
