- A quick look at our month long surf trip to California! It was one of the most memorable trips of our lives, but some mistakes were made. Hopefully after watching this video you'll have a better idea on how to plan your own surf vacation! Enjoy!

I love it -- the first Cali break you filmed (~timestamp 2:00) is on the Capitola/Santa Cruz line, about the chillest and friendliest -- albeit packed in summers -- break perfect for longboarders. Holler next time. Will paddle out with you. And Travelers' is one of the best shops in the state.
Yea such a fun place! Yes i'll let you know when I"ll be back!
My heart is so full watching all of these memories with you, the family, and of course Gilad. Thank you all again for letting me come along to Cali introduce me to the west coast experience . Time to wax on and wax off in our home field once again
Long live the maple oak
Anytime, we we're glad to have you both! Had an awesome time... back to surfing in NJ lol!
Santa Cruz local here! So funny to stumble across your videos in just looking up random surf content, and then seeing some of my favorite spots down the street from my house pop up. Landing at SJC...everything haha.
Glad you had a great time!
haha awesome! My gosh.. I'd live in santa cruz in a heart beat.
Watching gives me joy, and also makes me thankful for living on Australia's Sunshine Coast.
Thanks Philip! Yes, be thankful for what you have haha
Looks like a great trip.
Well done Dad.
Cali has 800+ miles of coast. With surf potential the entire legnth.
I learned to surf at Imperial beach, just north of the boarder with Mexico, in the late '70's.
Went to college at Humboldt State U up in Humboldt County in the far north.
Gotta say tho, that cental coast is spectacular.
Come on back when you can
It is spectacular for sure! I just got back from a couple days in SoCal.. also amazing lol! But, santa cruz is something special. Not just for the surfing. San O was special too.. im very torn haha
@@LongboardSessions easy to be conflicted. Virtually impossible to compare Santa Cruz to San O.
And far Nor Cali is about another world from those.
I live about 5 minutes drive from Tijuana. My surf buddies and I have the SENTRI passes which makes the wait to cross in to the US usually less than a 1/2 hour.
Opens every break from K38's south to Ensenada to day trips.
Baja is getting developed but there are still loads of summer and winter breaks at the end of dirt roads.
CA is great, but consider the central Oregon coast. We just took a 2-week camping road trip with the fam between Coos Bay and Pacific Beach. UNBELIEVABLE variety on the coast, and in the small summer swell, all of it lights up. All the beauty of central CA, but no crowds. Great times.
Oh yea that sounds amazing! I'd love to check it out there
@@LongboardSessions definitely consider it! The stretch from Florence to Newport is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, and tons of stuff for the kids (mine are 7 and 10). Tidepools aplenty, Thor’s Well, Devil’s Churn, Sea Lion Caves, Oregon Aquarium, Hatfield Marine Discovery Center, Rogue Brewery/Distillery, 200’+ tall sand dunes, lighthouses, etc. Can’t wait to get back.
@@stiffjalopy4189 That sounds awesome! My family would love it
Linda Mar!!!! Wouldn't be the best place to surf but I'm glad you got to visit my hometown.
Yes and it was awesome! Loved how different all the breaks were. So much fun
What a wonderful trip. I’m glad the whole family enjoyed it! Y’all should move out here. There’s plenty of commercial paint work available here in San Diego YEAR ROUND. Just saying 😎
haha ! I bet there is plenty of work. I'd love to move out there, but we have so much family here it would be too hard.
This was even much more fun then possible to display here:) Anthony and me had great time with you guys! Thank you Brian and the familia for hosting us so nicely. See you Sunday Brian back on NJ waves! Hey Brian, consider how the airline treated your board, you have my wetsuit right??
Of course my man, anytime! We had a blast with you guys. And yes, I got your wetsuit in my trunk haha
The best plane buddy
@@AnthonySperos miss you buddy
Gilad r u Jewish?
@@aireviews7632 I am. but I can still surf right?
Surfing CA after years on the East Coast is a shocker. You have time to check your watch on the popup in CA.
tell me about it! I just surfed San O for a couple of days. A ton of the surfers there would be shocked to come and try our waves. They would have a lot of learning to do lol
Great video! Your insights are helping me to improve my surf on the longboard. Thanks! Cheers from Brazil!
Great to hear!! You got some good waves over there
loved this! love your guys days...more Anthony! so happy for you and your cutie family!
Thanks Tony!! haha yes, more Anthony
Those “bad waves” are the best ones that I would ever see at my local break 😭😭😭😭
ah yes!! Different story out in Cali that's for sure!
Beautiful family. Great video. My favorite up to date. Keep um pumping!🤙🏄
Thanks so much Shane!! Will do
Wow! Awesome trip. Glad you guys had a great time. 👍🏼
Thanks james!!
I watched a few of your videos early on when I was trying to improve my longboarding skills, really cool to see a travel vlog style vid! Wishing you good waves
Thanks!! Yea i'd love to do as many of these as I can haha
Beautiful family, decent surf. Glad you had a wonderful trip!
Thanks Eddy! The surf was actually quite amazing, I just didn't get to film on the really good days. I got the longest rides of my life lol
That's where I grew up! Steamers lane, the hook, pleasure pizza, the Boardwalk. Good memories there. Glad you had fun! Wish I wasn't land locked in Colorado
It really is a special place!
My home surf spot! So glad you enjoyed brother
Awesome! Yes we enjoyed it quite a bit
We have had some unusually rough wet weather in CA over recent months. I am glad you had at least a few good sessions. I wish you better weather next visit!
Yep that's what everyone was telling me. We still had a blast tho.. got plenty of nice days
Beautiful edit! So glad you had fun. Your surfing was on point. (Cali-Point-Breaks agree with you!)
Thanks Billy! haha yea it was so fun.. point breaks are a different animal. Can't wait to try closer to you
Nice vacation buddy🤙🤙 inspiring
Thanks Adam!
Such a great video. Gotta come to Southern California next. Waves everywhere
Oh totally... I can't wait for the Socal trip!
Still loving your stuff bro! You've inspired and helped me so much in longboarding 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Oh thats great to hear Chris. Glad all the vids are helpful! Appreciate it
@@LongboardSessions sure thing! All the best to you and your family. Awesome stuff 🤙🏼👌
Great to see you made it to Norcal and had so much fun. OB can be a really hard place to surf with a mean break. Next time go to Bolinas, about an hour north of SF. Great longboarding with long rides at The Patch and super nice people. Next time I'll meet you!
oh nice, sounds good to me!
Well done! You’ve hit a trifecta! I’m so happy to see you enjoying my home state. 🏄🏼♂️
Ahh! And my old break in SF to boot!
Oh we really enjoyed it haha! So cool how many options there are.. so different from NJ. Don't get me wrong, NJ has some cool aspects as well, but doesn't even come close to Cali
nice video, your laugh at 6:37 was priceless in reaction to your wife saying "this is so much fun". cause in your mind you were probably like "Yes now i can surf more since they can tidepool!" XD
haha!! Oh the wheels were already turning up in my head.
The California coast is so magical! It's hard not to fall in love with it, and more so because of the waves. I've been trying to improve my longboarding over the past month, going out two times per day and almost all the days during the week, but I think after watching this video, I need to be more calculated about what I'm going to work on each session, which I think will help me improve faster. So, thanks for that! Anyhow, really enjoyed the flow of this video, I could feel all the excitement of being on the California coast and taking advantage of everything it has to offer.
Thanks so much!! Yes I finally got to experience being spoiled by waves and it can be a downside. However if you capitalize your time, you can improve super fast lol!
I remember watching your 1st trip video to cali, has it really been 1.5years 🙈
Awesome video buddy, just get better and better
I know, time flies! Thanks Gary, slowly but surely getting there.
What an awesome video!
Thanks bro!!
This is so awesome!
Thanks Tina!!
You guys need to hit the SoCal beaches next time. Coastal towns in San Diego County are super chill, as are the people. Water temp is 71 this week. Nothing better than surfing and watching the sun go down, and then wrapping up with dinner and a beer in one of the local ma&pa joints. It’s rough, but someone’s gotta do it.
I was just in SoCal for the HB contest and got to surf SanO twice! It was unreal....
This was an awesome video . !
Thanks!!
Great trip!
Thanks!!!
Great to see your trip, sorry you didn't get to Ventura this time... (we have a Travelers too). Love the brown poo waves at 13:17 😀. I definitely did not surf that weekend...
Next time! haha yea that storm was so annoying.. muddied up the water quite a bit
Like x1000!! Maybe your best vid yet, and I already loved the channel.
Also, you hit some of my fav breaks in central CA. But where WAS everyone else? Never seen them so empty.
Thanks so much!! Well I was typically going out at the slowest times possible like during the week early morning. That helped hehe
Cute fam! And great video! Inspiring!
Thanks so much! I agree... extra cute hehe
I’m so glad you made this video for the longest I was like i want to start some type of business where I can just be on the beach surfing because I just love being out there 24/7 and I never thought about filming 😮so now I believe that’s the route I’m going to go. Just going to have to network my ass off
oh awesome! Yea it would be real sweet as a side business, but if you wanted to make it your full time career you'd have to do a bit more than just film. But it's all totally possible! Where are you based out of again?
I am a competitor in Brazil and my tips for you would be:
Crostep faster, the cutbacks should be more elongated, there is also the pivot cutback whick is very good l, but you need to lower your back knee more to execute it. Another cool cutback is called "TOMBO" in Brazil, you lift the nose and kick the tail hard, it will do a break in the movement and will throw a lot of water. Also try the drop and cutback knee turn, it will help you with the pivot and it is style.
Awesome thanks Pedro!! I do need to work on these things.. espeically cross stepping a bit faster. I've slowed down the cross stepping to get a bit better at it.. but I think i'm ready to start speeding things up again
We need you to come to San Diego!! So many spots over here to log
It's happeneing. Don't know when, but already started looking at rentals hehe
great video, Thanks.
Thanks Will!
Taghazout & Imsouane in Morocco are longboard heaven. Rides of near three minutes regularly!
Oh wow! But how consistent is it I wonder?
I grew up and spent most of my life surfing Santa Cruz, thanks for all your sweet footage.
...but watching ya wearing a wetsuit, lol I DONT miss that part at all now living in Kona for years! Though SC has some epic longboarding spots, those I do miss.❤
haha you got it! Yea warm water must be nice.. we do experience somewhat warm water here in NJ in the summers atleast. It's still a little cold tho hehe
Maybe next time come to Morocco. It’s as fare as California for you guys. The waves are amazing here 🌊🤙
I've heard great things about Morocco! I'd love to head there one day
I’m from NorCal… homesick and missing my family. Good video.
Thanks!! What an amazing place
You should check out Stinson beach next time your in ca, awesome video looked like a great trip
Will do!! There are so many areas I want to check out next time we go
Hey Brian, thanks for the video, looks like you had a great time alright! Looks like you are also trying out some new fins? Time for a fin update?
Yes! I've been trying out a brand new fin the last couple of months. Video incoming.. in a few months hehe
@@LongboardSessions Look forward to your thoughts. The one we see on the video has an interesting rake in its profile.
Epic vibes
haha Thanks!
Size and make of the board in this amazing video!
And the board rack please!!
Board is 9'6" COS Chingona and the bike rack is by Moved by Bikes. I believe the link is in the description for the bike rack hehe
Really loved watching this! Great vid and recap of your trip! Did you happen to check out Steamer Lane at all?
Thanks bro! Didn't do steamer lane, but I did check it out. I surfed cowells once tho
Love it!
Your old stomping grounds hehe
Glad you enjoyed the holiday. I couldn't surf in that weedy crap however.
Thanks Jeff! Haha yea it's definitely tough to get use to
Great Family time
Nothing beats it!
What was the name song. Pretty
Cool song. Thanks for all the advice. Great stuff. Clear and practical steps for progress that I will be able to use.
Thanks!! Can you tell me the time stamp for the song? I used a few hehe
@@LongboardSessions where would you suggest I stay (town) if I were able to do the same thing?
I live here. Thank you for not naming the spots you surfed. Explore and find your waves.
You got it!
Not sure exactly when you were down here but all the rain made it pretty meh here in Ventura. Still got some good stuff in sporadically though!
So you all going to move out here now?
Yea well apparently we were there during one of your worst winters ever lol! We were in the bay area. Still got plenty of fun surf tho. Not moving out there .. I wish tho lol. We got so much family here in NJ it would be tough to move anywhere else... vacation house maybe?? (not that I can afford that lol)
True paradise
It was so much fun!
if you wanted to be a bit wild you could try new zealand sometimes you can get amazing waves to your self for a whole week depends where you strike it
That would be so fun! One day possibly!
where do you normally surf it looks amazing in your other videos and I wanted to ask.
Central NJ!!
@@LongboardSessions Dope, next time you go to California go to Huntington beach. Very nice waves.
Looks like it was a pretty sick trip.
Oh it was so much fun!!
thats life!
Totally!
You might have plan a trip to Aus & come surf Noosa
Well that would be insane.. And i'd likely get to meet up with Ben Considine as well haha! Been dying to surf with him one day
I'm in!
@@billytuchscher haha yes!
Love Santa Cruz, but now you have to hit up San Onofre/San Diego.
Oh yes yes. Already been looking at rentals over there haha
Well, that place is only a seven hour drive from my home, and you've got me considering a similar trip. Thanks! Were crowds or localism an issue at all? Did you do an Airbnb??
Hey Al! Localism wasn't bad, but apparently it can get bad on bigger days. There are also spots worse than others, but where I was it was great. We used VRBO. It was a little easier cause some places only allow month rentals and that's exactly what we needed
Agree. As a PNW surfer who gets to SC every couple of years, I’ve found the East Cliff breaks crowded but pretty chill at shoulder-high and below. Things get more intense as the waves get bigger. But the Lane kinda has a “no vacancy” sign in any swell. Which is ok, because you can paddle your log to Cowell’s and get those mellow rollers.
Hello!
Do you give Surfing classes in NJ?
Thank you!!
Sorry I don't! I know some people do out here tho
As an east coast surfer I know you must have been having the time of your life out there on that water. It just isn't fair how good the waves are out there is it?
No, not fair at all! It's a different world. It was also funny surfing days that the locals we're complaining about. A bad day for them was one of the best days for me lol
@@LongboardSessions They say that's why the best surfers come from Florida. They can surf anything! :)
haha!
Born n raised in So Cal. I lived a year on the outer banks of NC. East coast gets some good waves. But not consistently. When it breaks you gotta go. Cause you might not have a chance for a while.
We get flat spells in Cali too. But there's usually enough back ground swell or wind swell that you can find something to ride most of the time. Especially if you ride a long board.
I want to get started into surfing but don't know what longboard to get. Have any suggestions for a noobie such as myself?
If you've never surfed before and want to get into longboarding, the catch surf heritage noserider looks amazing. It's a soft top but also a single fin. However it's $500. If you want something cheaper i'd pick up a used foam surfboard like a wavestorm. You can likely get one for 50 bucks
That was great! Kudos for not naming spots too (even though they’re all well known).
Thanks Ross! Haha yes I try not to name. Some people even get mad about the land marks.. can't please everyone right? haha
How big is your board? Thanks
9'6"
Do you have any board recommendations?
Lots of good boards out there. Hard to recommend just one, but I'd like for a standard traditional longboard if it's your first one. Something like the Bing silver spoon (west coast) or the COS Chingona (east coast). Widest point in the middle, 50/50 rails, no hard edges.
@@LongboardSessions I've surfed on and off for years. Just infrequently enough to not get good lol. I've been looking at a "in the pink" board or a WRV Captains log. I really want to hang ten but have only ever been able to pull off a cheat 5. I'm also on the bigger side, so volume and size helps. I'll check out your suggestions! Thanks!
@@thechugdude Don't know much about the WRV, but I have ridden an 'in the pink' before. I absolutely loved it, but wouldn't necessarily recommend it if it's volume you're looking for. It's a really weird board with the thinnest tail and widest nose lol. Very fun.. won't go wrong with it, but there might be better options
@@LongboardSessions Thanks for the advice! I had no idea ITP might not be floaty Enough for me. I already struggle catching because of my size. I'm around 5,6 265 lbs. What do you the of a Robert August "What I Ride"? I was thinking whatever board I get will be 9,8 or 10,0
next stop san diego?
Has to be!
Wow - great adventure for family and friends. Enjoyed watching it! Hope to catch up to you guys when I am back in NJ. Cheers from NZ
Thanks Jack! Yea for sure, let me know when you're around and we'll head out
What part of Cali? So 🥶 still
Bay area! Yea apparently it was colder than it usually is while we were there. Still had plenty of nice days tho!
I live in California and hate it, it’s probably cause I only ever go to Huntington Beach tho
oh dang! HB is so crowded... but I was there during the wsl event so it was EXTRA crowded haha
How much to rent that house for a month?
DM me on insta @longboard_sessions
23C(73F) in the water in the land down under, right now. $140Aus = $1USD and more surfable beaches that 50 Hawaiis. Why go only half way?
Well you make a very compelling argument haha! one day!
Please don't think I'm teasing, I really do encourage you and your family to plan a trip down under. Thousands of miles of surfable beaches, not all perfect but many awesome breaks. Usually crystal clear water, storms can change that sometimes, and never less 57F, usually 18C to 22C. The reason is both sides of Australia get warm currents from the tropics.
Enough said cheers.
@@Hotwire_RCTrix Yea it's a must for sure. I'm hoping we will get to travel more often in the future!
Go farther south. Dont waste time up north
Ill be farther south in a couple weeks. Heading to watch the huntington beach event for a couple days! Gonna surf a bit as well
@@LongboardSessions anything from trestles south. Take a mex trip too!
Nice! I can't wait hehe
Just move already
haha! I wish
So awesome 🤟🤟❤️❤️
