It’s really cool to see how well you guys are doing with CZcams.. Honestly during the years of the TV show, I was a massive hater.. but when you guys got out of that and picked up your CZcams channel, there was a notable shift in the quality of the content and in the overall vibe you guys had (for the better, in my opinion). Slowly became a fan, and now I am addicted to the videos. You’re doing great work, especially the way you’ve gone out of your way to find large scale projects that are great content and extremely charitable at the same time. People helping people is a beautiful thing!
I'm in that same camp. I always thought these guys were just D-bags with money and using that to do idiotic things.
It wasn't until the Susan Powell coverage that I really turned over a new leaf concerning them, and now I want to stop in at the shop the next time I'm in SLC.

In my 22 years in the Army, I had some miserable recoveries (mostly Deep South Georgia swamp). Nothing I had compares to this, and I had some doozies. I can’t imagine the suck of this mission… love the channel!
I remember watching every video on the recovery I was stuck in the hospital for a good 3+ weeks and to see the toll i knew it took on you guys helped me to change my attitude about getting out of that dam hospital bed and back to my regular life which did give me that motivation I needed to get out of there so thank you guys cuz even tho I got out of there I still had a good month of daily nurse visits and over a year of physical therapy im still not back to 100% but im fine with that
I was stuck in the hospital for 2 weeks and still going through the recovery. I did the same exact thing man. This group has done so much more then just provide entertainment, they’re changing our lives and I hope they know it!!

Watched thru to "The End" -- this came Mighty Close to a Problem that people who strap ice skates to their booted feet have to Deal With, after the 1st skater goes through the ice; at what point to you decide to "Cut your Losses." (The really Intelligent skaters prepare, with a coil of rope -- instead of "Suspenders and Belt" -- belt With overlapping Rope.)

29:00 bro I can't even imagine... we have had some multi day recoveries where things have gone to crap but turned around and we were successful. I can't imagine the mental stamina to keep going for 2 weeks!! Hats off to your crew. One benefit is that your team grows incredibly strong sharing experiences like this. Kick ass video buddy!!

One thing this proves is that you need a mobile WC and shower unit. A catering unit would also be great. You never know how much these units are needed until they are needed.

That snow machine was a stroke of genius! Definitely needed to spread out the weight of the recovery vehicle (like a rescuer laying down on ice to reach someone who's fallen through)..
Just goes to show that we can never take anything for granted, you've got all these very capable vehicles that for one reason or another just didn't cut it. Congrats for the perseverance to finally get that beast out. And you certainly have a great bunch of people working for you. Don't quite understand why the state were giving you such a hard time, couldn't they see you were doing everything you possibly could to remedy the situation. Anyway kudos to you all.
If it's anything like the Arkansas river up in Tulsa Oklahoma area that much damage to it will permanently weaken it. Making it 100x easier for the next person to get stuck worse. The Arkansas river has claimed lives from this. One moment you're driving along on a sand bar next moment you are buried/eaten alive almost instantly. And damn near nothing will pull you out. It's illegal for that reason to ever go into that river when "dry"

How did you explain to Jim that the only reason you did not sink anymore vehicles was because you had no more vehicles left on the island to sink.

When we dug out the Sydney harbour tunnel area to form up the concrete structures the dozer got bogged and thats where it is today burried under lots of material at the fill site in Wollongong NSW
I wish you guys were from scotland when I live,I’m a 56 disabled truck and bus driver and had to give work up due to my disability and all I ever want is a motorhome with disabled access built for me and with not a lot of cash but I need away with my wife of 40 years and after watching you guys I’m impressed,you do everything so professionally
we add mats in front of the excavator, then use the bucket to lift and slide mats under the machine. then use a little tension nd it will pop out
Never in my life have I seen tracked equipment that sunk and stuck! This includes 8 years in the Army and mud holes from hell it's self! I'm 56 and thought I'd seen every way and type of vehicle stuck that you could stick! I was wrong, this literally dropped my jaw! How many times were you asked why it took you all those stuck vehicles to say, ENOUGH!! 😆😎 It was certainly good emergency, drop everything guys and come help training! Your truly blessed to have all those resources available to you...🤘

In the Netherlands we use "bronnering" to temporarily lower the groundwater level. Long pipes are injected into the ground and then a pump is connected to it to slowly dry the ground. No idea if it would have any effect in this situation.
If you can afford a helicopter ,,you can afford a tank puller ,,it pulls tanks out that get stuck ,with a heavy-duty winch ,,, every recovery should have one 👍

The Great Salt Lake always wins, always. I am writing a book about Saltair and the other bathing resorts that used to operate on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. There is a reason none of them are around anymore. I did enjoy your antics on the island but I knew that eventually the Lake would win. Thanks for the great entertainment. I did like your idea of starting cruises on the lake again. They used to be a popular past time, over 100 years ago. I'd love to see them come back.

We use cement stabilization dust when we get em hung up like that, it’ll turn the ground around it to concrete, then they usually come right on out👍👍gives ya some solid ground to grab on to!!
WOW!!!! Talk about a nightmare recovery...Groundhog day over and over again. I've had an Excavator stuck many times, but NEVER like that. Kudos for keeping at it and glad the land spoke to you and you parted ways with it.

I've been involved in pulling two vehicles out of quicksand before. One where the entire off-road club was involved to get a Toyota Landcruiser out before it disappeared. I would have stopped at the 5 ton sinking. Lake and River beds and beach sand dunes hide liquefied surprises. Since this happened in 20, then you had the experience to dig out some buried bulldozers. Sometimes we are given an impossible task and wonder why. Then later, the jobs come in that require that one skill.
The best mud mats are tree logs, I've done this a few times. The longer and wider the better. Also steel plates would've helped to keep the slop from coming back in when you were digging it out.
Glad to finally get the whole story. I have had some horrible stuck events in my life. Some may have been as bad as 1% of this nightmare.

Back in 1990, I got a massive tree hauling fork lift stuck in quicksand. I buried it so bad, it took a payloader, a road grader and two electric utility trucks all chained together to get it out. It sank so bad, all you could see was the cab. My boss said, it took 6 hours to get it out. A full day of powerwashing and a week for him to cool off. I am the champ of getting a fork lift stuck. I had to go job hunting too.
Love the back story for this, and the way everyone came together in their misery to finish the job. Thanks for your final comment about the scammers to, I am so tired of people using others good names to try to steal from decent people.

I’m well familiar with that bentonite goo. Liquefaction of clay isn’t quicksand, movement frees water molecules trapped in between colloidal clay particles. I’m impressed you ever recovered anything.

I got my RZR stuck in the middle of a dry lake bed near Belmont NV. I was 60 miles from the nearest town that had anything. Luckily someone in Belmont had 200 ft of tow rope. We got it out after 6 hours. The mud was mostly salt. Every piece of aluminum on my new machine was corroded after that.
Wow that is quite the ultimate brown storm! What a incredible situation that cooked up and so quickly it took so much longer to undo, what a amazing team you have.
Wow! I commend you and your crew for staying on top of it even when it looked and felt hopeless. At the end, the island let you have your vehicles back and you left the island be. Mother Nature always wins, but she's open for negotiations. This felt like one of Mr. Ballen's videos!!!😮😮🤙

definitely relate to this one. had our 330 excavator stuck and used our 450 excavator and D8 dozer for an entire 12hr to get it done. and it was ROUGH. we had more solid ground surrounding thankfully. but it was a rough day

Add a ground stabilization fabric. A few layers and you could float 20 tons on top of it.
When I built a road on muddy ground like that I laid down thick tarps instead. It's cheaper, then big rock on top of it.

It's a life lesson to us all that if the best of us can come unstuck, then so can the rest of us - it's not just Karma and the Gods being mean to the little guys...and then the most important lesson - don't give up, just keep going and trying different angles until you get it right. It sucks recovering equipment for people performing the work, and breakage involved is a heart breaker, and recovering your own equipment is done with all your own expense and its not just monetary loses you said it your self almost lost two employees, friendship with the local government, and the feeling of doubt. It sucks but you are one of the best at what you do, so you always get the job done pissed, sad, overworked, you and your crew always get the job done. Kudos for the great content to you and your crew. If what you do wasn't hard anyone could do it, and you would be just another run of the mill so called recovery experts like a lot of the other youtubers.
I love watching the 5 ton army trucks recovery is what I did in the army in all different places in the world you made me days. I would like to see you guys do something like a big truck that can be made for a person like me that is a powerwheel chair . I can not ever buy on because I am on a ssi income it is so low income I get $463. A .month and I get $163.00 from the VA bennifets so I can never got out to drive on me own because I can not buy anything that can get me powerwheel chair to go with me anywhere I can.
