New Lamborghini Huracan STO v Porsche 911 GT3 | Track battle | Autocar

- If you want to buy a track-focused supercar, you get a lot of options. But few are quite so compelling as these: the 2022 Lamborghini Huracan STO and the new Porsche 911 GT3.
The Lamborghini Huracan STO is the latest and maybe greatest version of Lamborghini’s V10 supercar. These days its naturally aspirated 5.2-litre engine makes some 631bhp at a screaming 8000rpm, as well as 416lb ft. That’s enough to propel it from 0-62mph in 3.0sec and give it a top speed of 193mph. But those raw numbers are not what the STO is about, says Lamborghini. It says the rear-drive STO is about feel, emotion, and fun. Whoop. It costs £260,012.
You could argue similar things about the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3, and we do, but there’s no question that its performance is motorsport derived as well. It also has a naturally-aspirated engine, a 4.0-litre flat six, which revs to 9000rpm and makes peak power of 503bhp at 8400rpm. It gets 347lb ft, it’ll go from 0-62mph in 3.4sec, and it has a top speed of 198mph. Its price is £127,955.
But here we’re not taking lap times or performance figures. The GT3 is such a complete package! Road car, track car, reliability and long term desirability like no other in my opinion

i would say the 991.2 gt3 rs is a better package for some less money currently but the gt3 is awesome if you need it to be brand new.
As good as that V10 sounds I'd still pick the GT3 everyday and twice on a Sunday.
The GT3 is one of my favorite sounding cars of all time.

Ironically Lamborghini’s originally were suppose to be great street cars, never really track competitors. No complaints of where they are as of now however

GT3 vs Perf is a better comparison. The STO really needs the RS to compete with since they’ll be the top of the line for each model.

@@porscheguy5848 No, the previous Perf huracan was very close to the GT2rs in performance and was even faster than the GT2RS in a 1/8 mile drag race. The new STO has more down-force and less weight than before so this would be a perfect match for the GT2 RS. The STO is more hardcore and track focused than even the SVJ believe it or not, according to Lamborghini's chef technical officer.
No 500hp Production car can beat GT3!

As the most expensive 500hp production car, it better be the best one.
Dallara Stradale has 400PS and is faster than the GT3
@@smasher123ism 911 GT3 has never been about being fast in straight line dragster. It's one of the fastest track tool if not the fastest and highly effective, incredibly enjoyable in that. Always punched way above its weight.

Sure it is! You can test which car holds up better to track abuse, which car is more balanced on the limit, which car offers the driver the most precision, etc. There is plenty you can do that is far *more* relevant to owners than compare lap times.
I only kind of agree. A track is a place to enjoy the limits of your car not necessarily set lap times. For example, a GTR Nismo would demolish a cayman GTS in a timed battle on the same track, but I'd prefer the Cayman 10/10 times. I fortunately know that from experience. But yeah, in this iteration it would have been useful to know
Yeah, if for nothing but fun they should have posted their track times for each car with their comfortable (for safety reasons) driving abilities. Some times a car is actually a lot faster or a lot slower than you think (based off your track feelings) once you see its actual track times.
It doesnt make sense to compare these two numbers wise as the gt3 would get eaten alive by the sto. They would need the gt2rs to make It competitive

Great video. Two knowledgeable journalists talking about the cars while driving them spiritedly.
Both great cars, neither is a good daily driver, or even a great street car. For that you want a 911 Carrera S or a Turbo if you have the budget. It is still very impressive that either of these cars can be bought and owned almost as regular cars - they won't break every other week like exotics used to!
I would definitely pick the GT3 if I could only have one. Also I could get it in a manual, you just can't go wrong with it! STO is brilliant though!

Both cars are so different. The Porsche is an incredible track focused machine and rides on rails. While the Lamborghini gives you all the drama you’d ever want from an exotic. I’m more of a person who enjoys that feeling the car gives me…noise, looks, excitement, rawness, theater. My choice would be the STO.

A clickbaity title. This wasn't a track battle, it was just a video of the two cars with most of the video focused on you two talking about the cars.
Porsche wouldn't have allowed it period. The STO would have stomped on the GT3 as it should costing double and having 150 hp more. Ferrari often does the same. Lambo never objects to timing their cars as does McLaren

The Huracan is much more hardcore. It must be a pain to drive it on public roads. It is perfect car for track users.
I currently drive a Performante regularly, they're not so bad on public roads. Just really stiff.

If you think that flat-6 is good, wait till you hear the flat-8 on the C8 Z06. Porsche’s flat-plane 6 have nothing on Corvette‘a flat-plane 8.

@@IR-xy3ij Yes it does, because the Z06 have a different engine than the regular Stingray. The normal Corvette is a V8 and the Z06 have the flat 8 which allows it to rev up higher like Porsche’s flat 6.
@@lordmaster5522 You are confusing a flat plane crankshaft V8 with a horizontally opposed 8 cylinder engine. If you don't believe me, look up the LT6 engine and see it yourself.

Great video. I’d say the STO is Lamborghinis GT3RS, and the Performante is their GT3.
I would say the performante is their gt3rs and this sto is their gt2rs which the pricing are similar to the competition as well

GT3's performance is a wash compared to sto. Sto has some advantages on long straights and low speed corners and gt3 is faster in high speed corners, so it's really track dependent.
GT3 RS is a whole step up in terms of suspension and downforce and its pace when on slicks approaches GT4 race cars. Currently lamborghini doesn't offer any product that is this close to a race car.
I think the comparison would he fairer if it was STO vs GT2RS 991.2. But I understand they both came out this year
Love both cars and the STO is the best Lamborghini in the last 10 years so I would take it but both cars are amazing.

The Lambo is a better toy, it is a robot with noise and lights and had missiles when its chest is open and you can only but laugh and be mesmerised like a 6 year old kid. The Porsche is a top of the line coffee maker from Europe, it cannot be faulted, it makes lovely coffee and it will last longer than you will. I like missiles.
Give us some lap times. That V10 though🤌🏽🤌🏽

Huh, numpties complaining that there were no lap times involved, with different drivers, in poor conditions or a random day...when no one is actually going to race these cars anyway...Because of course that would be critical information!
Much prefer these honest opinions about what the cares would be like to enjoy on track day. Much more pertinent for those that can afford them and even those of us who can merely dream.
I'm surprised you both picked the GT3, as good as it undoubtedly is. From what I'd previously seen of the STO I thought they might have got it close enough to the GT3 in terms of dynamic polish to allow it's greater drama and emotional excitement to have made it the choice.
Huge Lambo fan, but for FUN, trackdays, winding country roads and just living with it,.... PORSCHE, for sure
