your right, it was robin finck.slash plays it sick.. he makes it his own,hes not trying to cover it. a big part of gnr and slash and duff playing the Chinese songs was that they wanted to make them their own and not cover them exact.obviously you don't watch the interviws
I'm not entirely sure how much of that is based in desire. While Slash has great tone and in general is a fine player with a knack for writing memorable solos, he does not have the technical skills to faithfully cover Finck, Buckethead, or Bumblefoot(the latter two of which are playing way below their abilities on the album as it is).
