Whenever you see a ‘M’ before aircraft designation is stands for multi mission MH-47 is the multirole version of the chinook used by 160th SOAR. The Q just means unmanned aerial system. Hence MQ-9 Multi-mission Unmanned aerial system.
The fact that the Reaper can carry AIM-9X missiles means that they do have some air-combat capability, since the AIM-9 series of missiles is a short-range air-to-air missile, generally used within about 3 to 10 miles. The Reaper could probably be configured with a variety of intermediate range anti-aircraft missiles as well, and sent up in advance of a possible engagement to function as remote firing platforms, with targets being selected and designated either directly by the drone operator, or by other weapon operators on either a Command & Control aircraft, or at another base.
While jet engines can deliver far higher performance than propellers, they come at the cost of burning far more fuel, meaning they generally can't stay in the air as long, and are far easier to detect thermally at more extended ranges, since they have the enormous plumes of jet exhaust behind them.
Ultimately, the virtues of drones must always include the fact that the loss of a drone doesn't harm any of the trained professionals operating its various systems, and that those professionals, being able to focus their professional development more directly, will probably be more capable in their fields than a fighter pilot would be, who has to be very good at combat piloting, professional at the various electronic systems, and at least highly competent at the use of all the various weapons a fighter can carry. Another benefit of drone use is that individually, they're generally far less expensive than manned military aircraft, with the obvious potential for force endurance and concentration.
it will prob carry aim 260's too
A turboprop engine is used to increase loiter time. Having it stay aloft for many hours at a time is more valuable than pure speed. The top speed of the Reaper is around 300 mph (482 kph) with a 200 mph (313 kph) cruising speed.
Think about future UCAVs (unmanned combat aerial vehicle) that are stealthy and have improved sensors. They will spot the enemy before they can be detected. They can fire missiles themselves or another aircraft further behind can launch missiles from another location still unseen by the enemy. Or they can act as wingmen for manned fighters. An enemy squadron could find themselves facing a swarm of BVR missiles appearing out of the blue from multiple directions.
think of it as a "Warthog" drone. 15 yrs also allows tech upgrade w/o changing the body.
Wait until they AI swarm the MQ-9s...
If you really want to see what drones are capable of today, take a look at the RQ-170 and the RQ-180.
I got to control the camera on a MQ-1 Predator at NTC in Cali. We were following a HMMWV convoy with it. Saw them pull over and some dude got out and took a shit on the side of the road, he had no clue 50 people in the TOC were able to see it from 30 miles away lol.
I helped develop global hawk at Beale AFB 25 years ago. They've come quite a way
just found your channel love this video i am trying to make a scaled down version of the MQ9
you guys are missing a huge strategic advantage. These aircraft have a very low radar cross section. Load them up with sidewinders etc. swarm them to mimic a conventional aircraft formation, draw in the enemy, split up and engage, then follow up with the live pilots to mop up and spank the leftovers.
Hell, imagine going mach 2 horizontally and suddenly going vertical.
Yes MQ9 Reaper drone is dengerus for who don't have air defence system 😂😂
Check out the Q-4 drone along with the RQ-170 and 180. The letter designations define the aircraft function such as M= multirole, Q= unmanned, R= recon and so on.
This is a long loiter drone, reaper drone was the one Russia ran into over the Black Sea. Look up the RQ-170 and RQ-180. Was the X-47B. .
Alex Hollings put out a video on Sandboxx six days ago about the US Air Force is already putting AI piloted F-16s in the air and doing dogfighting against human pilots. You should react to his video on that. The title of the video is: The Air Force is pitting its AI-piloted F-16 against humans in 'complex dogfights'.
These are other American drones: X-62 vista AI dogfighting F-16, XQ-58 valkyrie can carry missiles and kamikaze drones inside its weapons bay, MQ-25 stingray is an autonomous air refueling tanker that can carry 2 LRASM, Fury hypersonic drone, Quarterhorse hypersonic drone, RQ-21 blackjack, RQ-170 sentinel, RQ-180, MQ-8 fire scout, X-65 active flow control system, Longshot gambit drones, Scan eagle, perdix micro drone swarms, Coyote 2 interceptor drone, Phoenix ghost drones, Roadrunner, Roadrunner-M, Switchblade-300, Switchblade-600, Altius-600, Altius-700, X-36, RQ-4 Global Hawk, RQ-7 shadow, RQ-11 raven, RQ-20 puma, Aero Triton, LUSV Ranger, LUSV Mariner, LRUSV, Saildrone.
Yeah, it's seems to be going all unmanned.
They even just tested F-16 AI unmanned against a manned one in dog fighting. It tested very well so far.
The MQ-9 uses a Honeywell TPE-331 engine of 900 horsepower. You can read more here under the specifications section: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Atomics_MQ-9_Reaper#Specifications
That said the new C-130J Super Hercules uses Rolls Royce AE 2100 engines. RR took over Allison Engines, who'd made the T-56 that had powered all previous versions of the Herc. Allison Engines became Rolls Royce North America. If Allison Engines had to go under foreign ownership, I'm glad it's our trusted friends, the Brits! You can learn more about them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_North_America
Gen 7 will most likely have quantum entanglement communications. Basically an impossible to interrupt very low latency system... fast enough to allow remote piloting of a fighter in a non permissible environment. Both the US and China and experimenting with the tech. If you remove latency and satellite dependency remote fighters are the way to go.
M means it carries weapons. Q means its unmanned. MQ-9 Is also about the same size as an A-10
For missile videos "The Insane Engineering of the Javelin" by Real Engineering is an interesting one that goes in detail about both the launcher and the missile, and it's from a year ago.
I've seen countless upgrades to the MQ-9 over the years. We also fly a crap ton of lines daily, globally.
Great reaction man. These drones are flat out amazing.
Its a prop plane so it can be slow moving, use less fuel and stay on task for longer. They were designed mostly for secret ops and spy stuff. Lots of weapons were added after the fact. Check out the Reaper prior to the Irag was starting 23 years ago. I got to see one just after ita government secret clearance was change, 2003 time period, they were test launching off aie craft carriers when i saw them.
I'm pretty sure the propellor was a conscious choice due to fuel efficiency and staying in the area for longer
The propeller engine is much simpler, more reliable, easier to work on, and has far longer maintenance intervals. The engine is also much more fuel efficient. It’s like a Honda civic engine compared to a Bugatti.
It may not be cool and flashy like a F16, A10 or F18 but it can loiter for 20 hours and the guys on the ground have communication with the RPA watching them ready to sling a hellfire if needed.
when a drone is shot down or has a failure and cannot be recovered, they are usually sent some form of explosive to slag it
Its showing them take off from gatorfraitors not air craft carriers. They been launching them from carriers or at least testing that for decades.
It is perfectly large enough to house a jet engine, look up the world's smallest jet plane and you'll see what I mean. But the advantage of a propeller-driven aircraft is less fuel consumption so the ability to stay on station longer and carry more ammo because the weight allowance is not needed for fuel.
if you are binging certain channels like USMilitaryNews, I'd love to see your take on some more TheFatElectrician videos. He doesnt have very many, so it wouldnt be too much of a struggle to get through them all if you did 1 or 2 here and there, but ALL of his videos are absolute bangers, and blow my mind whenever I see a new one drop. I would REALLY like to see you give your thoughts on "The Most Gangster Marine of All Time" and/or "America's Anti-Hero, Jake "McNasty" McNeice", or even "America's Secret Underground Cheese Vaults" or "Most Gangster Politician Ever". They are all real treats, and some of the best content he's got imo.
The Global Hawk Drone has a Jet Engine and can fly for a 24+ hours and at 40,000+ feet high it’s a surveillance drone only.
Global Hawk and Reaper drone both have tech knowledges to protect the inner workings if it’s opened to reverse engineer it. That goes for other weapons too
MQ-9....M stands for multi use, Q stands for remote controlled, and 9 is the ninth version of the drone. According to Google that is. 😂😂😊
The most secretive is X-37b autonomous space plane that spends years in orbit. Plus it can carry nukes
I don't know if you caught it, but the B-21 Raider may have a manned optional configuration. Quoting the Air Force fact sheet: “designed to accommodate manned or unmanned operations,”
So a large bomber in a drone configuration is planned. Unlikely any time soon, but in the works.
So these do actually use a turbine engine. They are turboprops which is just a jet engine with a propeller. This enables low and slow flight and much longer loiter times which is what you want for a ground support and surveillance drone like this.
We could probably make autonomous F 22s if we want. They say the F 22 can't be flown to its capacity by human pilots. Suddenly you're making 10+ G turns at mach speeds. If a human does that he's or she's going to sleep for a while.
You still need to do a vid on the AV-8B Harrier amazing aircraft the only jet that that was capable of VTOL until the F-35 came in to play
We could make a fighter drone right now if we wanted to but that’s not what the military wants atm
I just want to say that America only lets you know about their immediate military assets only if they are developing or have already developed something more deadly that they keep classified until they want to bring it out.
There are plenty of jet powered drones out there. They use a prop when endurance is more important then speed.
Reaper drones use bombs/missiles for "mission specific" targets. They're not ground support or saturation bombing aircraft. That's what bombers and Fighter/Attack aircraft are for. Sometimes they carry no armaments at all. BTW, jet engines burn more fuel and make more noise than a propeller. The propeller gives this "specific" reaper more loiter/surveillance time over the "mission specific" target area. There are many other drones like it that are jet powered (Global Hawk), or haven't you noticed?😳 The US began experimenting with remotely controlled unmanned aircraft as far back as WWII. That's how Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was killed. Also, ANY modern aircraft that's shot down contains technology that the enemy would want to examine.
Peace to you.🕊
RQ-180 is out there. It's armed without a doubt.
It's probably just my lack of knowledge, but I'd say this is mostly useful AFTER we've completed air superiority (IE their enemies air force is destroyed)
look at the XQ-58A Valkyrie, it will be the future drones
I would honestly be shocked if it takes more than 10 years to hit gen 7 unmanned fighter jets/bombers with the current rate of technology growth and our seemingly unrestricted military budget
Royal marine please react to the (paramedic force 5 bridge creek and moore, Oklahoma tornado May 3 1999). It's the first responders response to the 1999 moore, Oklahoma F5 tornando. I currently work as an EMT with EMSA in tulsa, Oklahoma. We use this video for training new hires on mass casualty response. The camera crews riding with these ambulance crews were making a Tv show on the day and life of first responders the day moore got hit. Most people have no idea what happen in the aftermath of a tornado. This video is a great watch to understand what it takes to triage a mass casualty incident.
some of the Taliban used to call it the Angle of Death because you never see or hear it until the missile is falling like god just sent a explosion to the ground, the new B21 bomber is optionally maned so I think you are right it will be like 50/50 in the near future for full size Jets
It is larger and more powerful than the MQ-1 Predator, and is designed to execute time-sensitive targets with persistence and precision, and destroy or disable those targets. The "M" is the DoD designation for multi-role, and "Q" means remotely piloted aircraft system.
put a friggin laser on that drone!
The "M" is the DoD designation for multi-role, and "Q" means remotely piloted aircraft system. The "9" indicates it is the ninth in the series of remotely piloted aircraft systems. General Characteristics. Primary Function: Intelligence collection in support of strike, coordination, and reconnaissance missions.
With programmable ai technology there are no boundaries
Global hawk has a jet engine. Check that one out
The "M" is the Dept. of Defense designation for multi-role, and "Q" means remotely piloted aircraft system. The "9" indicates it is the ninth in the series of remotely piloted aircraft systems.
Hold my beer
The MQ-20 is the jet upgrade to the MQ-9
Well the U.S. AF just finished its first test with an A.I. F16 in a dog fight. It won’t be to long before it will be simple for nations to go to war with no “risk“.
Drones can’t make the spilt second decisions a human can. 100% drone I don’t think is feasible. 90% with a human fighter as a “mothership” type roll I think will be the future.
At high altitude you cant hear them, they are very quiet
Iv you wana see something even more advanced.
Check out the X47 B.
It has a propeller because it's not a jet
IN 2017 WE HAD AN AI DRONE TAKING OFF AND LANDING ON CARRIERS AND REFUELING!!
Soon you have drone aircraft with one pilot who controls six or seven aircraft at a time
The fact you said "lets turn subbies on" on the internet really says a lot. May want to clean it up so youtube doesn't demonitize you.
Check out the V.I.S.T.A. F-16 AI Fighter dogfighting with Piloted F-16's !
Turn a Drone into a drone truck. Instead of weapons, it carries several smaller drones for one way missions, etc. 🤔
Some of the existing bombers can be fitted to carry and launch drones, as well as a large number of air-launched cruise missiles.
@@OriginalLictre I was thinking specifically in this drone. Use it to loiter for hours waiting on the right event to kick off its mission to drop something like Switchblade drones. Having worked on the B-52G from 87-91, I know a little of what we have and can do...love your vid, keep up the good work.
some dangerous that even Yemen rebels can shoot it down with ease lmao
Jets can't loiter like a prop.
They already have the FQ-16 a drone F16 flying.
The 15 year thing- you have to remember "Tech" advances makes things smaller, example- Car phone > Bag phone > Brick phone > Nokia "Bar" phone > Flip phone > now you can use your watch. The only reason phones got bigger was due to use of multi-media. The tech part of the drone can be constantly updated- it's basically a weapons truck with sensors, as most of the actual tech it needs is in a trailer in Nevada lol.
AIM 9x next?
I must have seen the predator
Please consider ace combat 7 in you live trust me there are plenty of fictional and real world aircrafts you would enjoy to play it
Please check out the US NGAD. The replacement for the f35 f22 and MQ9 reaper platforms!!
There's no we.
This drone and many others, along with my personal experience of working on USMC attack helos, is why I don’t it funny when so many declare Ukraine and Russias use for drones is groundbreaking and the future. No, we done/looked at all the same thing. Since the 1980’s, the first users of drones in the US military was the modernized Iowa Class BB’s in the 1980’s as spotter drones for main gun fire. And that addition with others made the the most accurate naval guns ever made, hands down. As the only nation who in corporates drones with BB’s. Ever since then. We have only had the most powerful and deadly drones ever devised, cool, Russian or Ukrainian drones can kill one target, maybe. Ours can kill many, upon many. Then fly back, re armed and attack. Again and again. Along with guide in huge strike packages, then go kill many independent targets. Then return to re arm and refuel, and go out, yet again. And over and over.no Ukraine and Russia aren’t the future of drone warfare, they are the exception and what the poor and desperate do. The US had fought from day one to be independent and a power to prevent such things for us. And to an extent others. We paid the price in blood. Others haven’t, and we benefited so many and the world, espeuas two time world champs. Of which no one else can claim. We, my ancestors and my self earned that right to shit talk, in blood, and we’ve done nothing but win since the revolution. No one else can say the say the same for the same number of years, or even claim to bw a super power, we won. Period, end of story. Communists or those who mirro them, are starving and stupid. Cabot be denied, they lack in all ways, including technology and food. They can’t even make one stealth aircraft and feed their people. A joke. We spend more on bases, our side of US territory than any communist country spends on their entire military, once again a joke. They don’t have a real, blue water navy, no world power. A joke.
It has to loiters for hours so it cannot use jets
Loiter time
Checkout Army Ranger Live Fire exercise.
it's prop driven for longer range/time aloft
After your lifetime? Are you expecting to be gone soon? AI is getting smarter every day.
Have you gotten into the helicopters yet?
i dont know what "innit" means
I’ll talk books
Do a reaction to us advance $billion dollar drone
drones using our super carriers was finalized almost a decade ago.
They shoot them off the Landing Crafts too.
It's a wonder the creator doesn't re-enlist in AirForce to fly an unmaned drone ?? Gamers make great pilots and controllers 🤔
Man, i just love hearing english people react to things.
The "M" is the DoD designation for multi-role, and "Q" means remotely piloted aircraft system. The "9" indicates it is the ninth in the series of remotely piloted aircraft systems.
A 3rd mq9 reaper drone got shot down over Yemen yesterday. Looks like American weapons who are used to kill people only work in defenseless countries 😂😂
You should also look at the number of russian jets shot down over Ukraine. No weapon is invinsible. Being able to take out a slow, low flying drone is nothing to be proud of. You could do with a manpad. That is why US has over 300 of these.
First Noice, also can’t wait to see what I watch (I’ll edit to update)
Update: it was Very very interesting and can’t wait to see another great content!
Ha ha ha ha ha good joke...if the US was involved
Your wife’s American most the people here in America don’t like reading books that’s why we watch CZcams because we don’t like reading books
using the aim-9 sidewinder which can strike a fighter aircraft from any direction, it might be dangerous to try to dog fight this drone.
Im gonna keep posting about marsoc until one day you do a vid on them they're pretty similar to the Royal marines. I'd say they are the u.s equivalent, maybe more specialized
One of the reasons for the propeller driven tech for this drone is it uses less fuel. Depending on how its loaded, one of these will be able to fly for as long as nearly 2 days. Even in "short" duration configs it can go over 12 hours.
The is an equipment designator syste like the AN/ALQ-39 flare system. MQ is probably the designator for un manned drone a hangover from the days of McNamara.
I believe propellers are generally used in air craft for better sustain flight and cruising at lower speeds.
You should look up unmanned F16 if you haven't yet. Love the videos
turboshaft is a jet engine jet to prop
No bro we got better ones😂
As far as what you are talking about the next drones being, you need to look at the "NGAD" or Next Generation Air Dominance concept plane.
