    Tanks are far from obsolete.
In the 1930’s, when man-portable anti-tank launchers were developed, experts said that tanks were obsolete. Then tanks with better armor and mobility were made.
In 1961, when anti tank guided missiles were becoming mainstream, experts said that tanks were obsolete. Then APS, ERA, and new tactics were developed against ATGMs.
In 2022, when drones started being used in mass, experts said that tanks were obsolete.
I think you can figure out the next part.

Well the US Military has never been wrong. They've successfully not called the end of dogfighting and took away an internally mounted cannon on the F-4's. They said the age of battleships were over and then proceeded to throw millions into keeping the Iowa class ready to deploy at any given moment. . . . They said the A-10 is no longer relevant as it has continuously demoralized enemies and invigorated boots on the ground. So....yeah, never wrong. 🤣🤣🤣

All the way up until the technology fails and/or counter measures make them worthless or even an unforseen conditional aspect like environmental conditions.
We learned this the hard way in Korea and apparently learned little because we faced it when I was in the mountains of Afghanistan too and most of our "hitech" stuff like tanks and Drones due to simple things like inclement weather conditions and unsolid ground can set missions back to 'boots on the ground' or devolved it into that.
Korea we started designing aircraft around long range Missile systems with no mind to "obsolete" wwii dog fighting and it went very bad for awhile for pilots as they couldnt hit enemy aircraft more agile and lacked guns and maneuvering capabilities comparatively to enemy's dogfighting design being used. I envision with our 95% shift to digital or automated, Electronic Warfare will periodically knock us temporarily in phases of old school necessity until we wisen up and understand there has to be a balance at this time, not a dependance.

I was a tanker in the Army. Try to remount a track with only 2 people. The driver has to stay where he is. We did not go with an autoloader in the Abrams because having a loader let you fire faster and if you had to switch round you did not just fire off the wrong one to do it.

The Abrams X is just a show model for the military. The maker said there will be things the military like and things they don't like about it. It is just showing what can be done and NOT what will be done. As for the auto loader system the system they created back in the day had to load and unload like 40,000 round and do it over uneven terrain. The maker made a hydraulic system to simulate uneven terrain and the system worked flawlessly.

As for whether tanks are good or not anymore, everyone else still has them.. So our guys won't be able to physically take ground without them. Without mobile armor and direct fire we are handicapping out troops.
Also, The digital capabilities going down of a tank wouldn't cause the tank to stop moving or even *firing (I believe) when switched to manual.

way i see it, a tank, by its most basic definition is a singular unit that can shrug off most weapons fired at it and carry far greater firepower than any infantry ever could. its purpose to lead the charge taking the hits and blasting a hole in enemy lines so the infantry can get in there and sweep up without getting massacred by MG nests. now lets think bout that. shrugging off hits, no where is it law that a tank HAS to have thick steel armor. it just has to be tanky. that could mean powerful and sophisticated anti projectile systems. or forcefields, or tech that we havnt concieced yet, basically as long as the tank is tanky and can pulverize enemy tanks and fortifications it serves its purpose. the tank of course as with ANY military unit cannot act alone. its merely a single cog in the machine. no one unit is the be all end all. imagine if ur locked in a serious peer to peer war and all ur air assets are tied up in massive dogfights and or being staved off by heavy anti air assets. well now whos gonna kill HMG nests and tanks and punch thru to kill those AA batteries so the CAS can resume bombing? now infantry support for a tank is so critical i realy think that a hybrid tank/apc is the way of the future. like the mighty merkava.

As for the auto control system. The new F-35 has an integrated computer. That can take control of ground units. As well as Drones and Artillery systems..This feature was also included in the new B-21 Raider. Something they worked hard for. As they had to reduce the wattage used onboard the Aircraft.. Something in the 35km range now..
I would add. The cost to train, pay, feed, clothe, house etc.. A 4 man crew is around $350,000.00 a Year. As most the Militarizes budget is in paying for Active and Retired Military personnel..A tiny portion is actually hardware cost..

16:05 NASA and Military technology 10 years ahead... _Well_ that's both true and false. _Research_ may be years ahead but _implementation_ is often years behind. It takes a LOT of effort to come up with rad-hard electronics and then those electronics get deployed into systems that have to last for decades without the business/consumer "there's something better so let's upgrade" mindset. There are relatively-ancient CPUs and microcontrollers used in manned space flight. Some of the ISS technology, as Indiana Jones would say, "belongs in a museum."

The over reliance on technology creates a vulnerability and if operational tempo is high how reliable is the actual weapon? As we see in the Russian T14 Armata it’s not exactly a game changer. Not sure this will be an addition or an Albatross.

Yeah its great to have it but there is a lot that can go wrong and still suffers from the same weakness every tank has thin top and bottom the tracks can still be blown off easily. And with all the electronics you introduce a bunch of new problems. I'm more exited about the new m10 booker and they don't even consider it a tank but what it does have going for it, its light simple and somewhat cheap it reminds me of the old Sherman's tbh. The m10 would be perfect for the Ukraine situation if we had a bunch of them. We wont even send them our most modern abrams because we fear loosing the technology and we wont send them to our closest allies in nato either. Same with the f22 we don't export them but we will export the f35.

I understand the belief that tanks are on the chopping block but you gotta consider some things.
1: Tanks represent directed heavy firepower. It's basically artillery, right next to you that can aim at the Russian BMP down the block.
2: It has way more heavy hitting ammo than any platoon or drone can carry and can stay in the field for days/weeks/months at a time nearly always on standby to fight unlike a drone or aircraft.
3: It's a vehicle that can handle nearly any terrain meaning when you cross a river and can't get your MRAP or Humvee or whatever across, the tank can probably still support you.
4: Advancing tech is making the tank just as survivable as ever despite advancing anti-tank weaponry and the every growing decentralization of combat capability.
5: Morale. Having a tank on your side is a HUGE Morale boost for our troops and a terrible loss for our enemies. Especially when you know its one of the greatest tanks ever built and the enemy probably cant dent it.
That said, I do expect them to become smaller and unmanned over time, or at least having unmanned options.

If there's ever a ground war either in China or USA, tanks will be at a logistical disadvantage due to the huge land areas they'd have to cover at speed, which means fuel supply and enough ammunition will be a nightmare to maintain. I believe cheap, unmanned, ultra-fast moving, lightweight ATVs that carry medium powered assault cannons (for shoot and move tactics) will be the future of the battlefield rather than sluggish and heavy main battle tanks that can be quickly destroyed from drones dropping bombs from above.

You need to watch a few of Nick "The Chieftain" Moran's videos. He goes into a lot of detail about tanks, but he also gives some really good points. Like what's the purpose of a tank? A lot of media and laypeople would tell you it's to be the rhino on the field with a big boom! Ah....kinda, but also no. It's carrying effectively direct artillery around the battlefield on the front lines. Compare it to the mobile artillery and it has more options as far as what it can do in terms of supporting the troops around it in the right now. Compare it to standard artillery, you've got just as many if not less crew in a mobile platform able to take their big gun from point A to point R and hit every point in between a whole lot faster than loading up the ammo and packing the gun. Hopping in the truck or IFV, driving to the next point, unpacking every thing, getting coordinates, firing, waiting for a response of how good or bad you did, correcting, firing again, and then rinse and repeating.
Tanks literally are big guns that move on their own to where they need to. Yes they have many weaknesses, but so do boots on the ground, and we've yet to push to say that soldiers are obsolete (in any serious manner.) And we all "know" the solution for any tech problem, Luke. "Have you tried turning off then turning it back on again?" I will die if that becomes the standard fix for these kinds of systems. It's the US Military....they ain't doing any better than Microsoft.

Yes in the normal mindset tanks are becoming obsolete, however that is not where they are going with this. New platform for IA unmanned units that talk to each other with out satellite needs.

From a tanker of 21 years in the US ARMY. ONE EMP burst and its a big ass paper weight, with NO degraded capabilities... Battlefield of the future is going to be the little guy behind you with a pointy stick... Basic and reliable, plain and simple...

tank 'computers' are a bit different than our desktops. the tanks uses GPCP 750 single board computers (SBC). each one is purpose built, like one for targeting, monitor display, calculations and non of them depend on an OS. instead engineers wite ungodly amounts of OPCODES and ASM to basically do what an OS (like windows or linux) would for the SBCs. every OS has crap a tank would never need, creating more possible fault points. so instead of letting Windows11 handle running software for everything, they split things up, 1 SBC = 1 Task(like firing guns or whatever).
    - there can't be a BSOD unless some engineer adds it as a joke.

They don’t even need to call it an “Advanced Combat Engine”. The hybrid electric diesel engine is made by Cummins. And if you don’t know, Cummins is that company that makes big industrial diesel engines for tractors, construction vehicles, military vehicles, and other big heavy equipment. And they also make smaller diesel engines for RAM trucks. So just calling it a “Cummins” makes it as less tree-huggy as it gets.

Its just a test and prototype vehicle like the new Rheinmetall Panther.
So no this tank is not the new tank.
The tank is dead since 1918.🤷‍♂️😅
    PS
Half truth Japan, South Korea and French tanks also have autoloader.
But its in the back of the turret behind blast doors and blow out pannels.

you dont truely win a war by air alone. Planes can only do so much in terms of capturing a location. That is done on the ground, Airframes are just the best way to combat Most of the threat however to take it over you would need to have a stron ground presence as well.

What happens when the tank is disabled and now you are a 3 man group instead of 4. I don't know about others but if I was in that situation I would prefer another body to help protect each others meat suits.

American tanks travel in 3 platoons of 4. These companies are typically deployed in groups of 3. So not 3 or 4. It will always be 12-144 not counting the rest of the task force/support.
