  • Visit to Big Bend National Park in Texas. Big Bend National Park is located in the southwestern part of Texas along the Texas-Mexico border. Join me on my adventure to visit my 42nd National Park on my quest to see all 63 National Parks. During my visit of Big Bend I hiked several short hikes into Boquillas Canyon, Santa Elena Canyon and hiked to the Window View Trail and the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail and visited three of the four Visitor Centers. I camped overnight at the Rio Grande Village Campground and give you a great tour itinerary of this National Park.
Big Bend was established as a national park in June of 1935, preserving the largest tracts of Chihuahuan Desert topography and ecology in the United States. The park is comprised of 1,252 square miles of land, over 81,000 acres making it larger than the state of Rhode Island. Within Big Bend National Park are numerous geographical contrasts. These include the vegetation belts along the Rio Grande, the sparseness of the Chihuahuan Desert, the peaks of the Chisos Mountains, and the limestone outcrops of Persimmon Gap and Boquillas Canyon.
