@@jimbowlan5804 I think it's more likely that Ridley may have wanted to make another Alien movie for quite some time, but was pretty clueless on how to do it. Then Blomkamp presented his idea for a movie and Ridley managed to insert himself into Blomkamp's project, only to destroy it from within, at the same time picking up ideas from Blomkamp. The almost endless list of writers re-writing what was supposedly Ridley's script, suggests that that script might have been heavily based on Blomkamp's ideas and in hindsight Ridley wanted those gone, to erase the fact that they came from Blomkamp, resulting in the Prometheus mess.

I am still so sad about this. It is the greatest What Could Have Been. Star Trek: Picard Season 3 has shown that older actors/characters can deliver satisfying and lucrative returns. They should still give Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, and Neill Blomkamp a chance to make this. Limited episode streaming series/miniseries if that seems less risky than a theatrical release (but YOU KNOW this would make HUGE money at the box office, there is no question).

    • @workingmemories2213
      @workingmemories2213  Před rokem +3

Season 3 had the benefit of showrunner who was familiar with the material (Terry Matalas, as opposed to Alex Kurtzman) so it's possible that Neill could have pulled it off nearly a decade ago... Michael Biehn did have a stroke at one point and has since recovered, so that could have put a damper on things for awhile as well.

Sigourney has stated that she's done with Ripley, which is really sad as I certainly think this film would have been the best way to resolve Ripley's story. If this project somehow ever came back and Sigourney decided to join in, I hope that it's a live-action film (though I wouldn't mind a full-CG film, like how Blomkamp's Oats Studios did a short film called Off The Grid - Switcher that uses it). But, since the House of Mouse has the franchise now, it's safe to say the chances of there being another good Alien film, especially one that this could have likely been, is not likely.

If I ever get enough money to buy the Alien Franchise...
I got a good story and set of movies that would not only get the timeline in proper order...
But give a proper ending to the "Ripley" story and open it up for more stories later.
I literally have it mapped out.
It does involve Ellen waking up next to Hicks (she's married to now) and him asking which dream was it this time?
Referring to Alien 3 and 4 as "Cryosleep nightmares" she had which still linger to a degree.
That removes those two movies as a part of the storyline.. but keeps them (in a weird way).
Her rescuing her daughter, Amanda, who I would have stuck in her own cryosleep in orbit around Origae-6 (where the Covenant went), is pivotal.
I even finally, got a movie idea explaining what happens to the original David (not the David-upload-to-Walter one) and Daniels.
Their fight causes the Juggernaut to crash on LV-426... with the eggs that David "Grew" (they were not laid by anything).

According to rumours from the script writers,Neill Blomkamp movie was about the Sulaco ship
drifting in space after the emergencypods were released. On the ship there were a xenomorph
hidden in the lower basement of the spaceship. After fifty years they are detected by another
ship bringing colonists to a new terraformed planet for humans. They send in two robots to
investigate. They find traces of dna in the ships database, and clones Hicks,Ripley and Newt.
But as clones they don't remember anything of the events that took place in the alien3 movie.
When they arrive at the colonists destinyplanet, the xenomorph starts to lay eggs.
Then all humans on the planets are attacked and a war breaks out.Ripley,Hicks and Newt manages to
escape in a spaceship they find in a cave. It is a engineer spaceship that takes them to the
engineers homeplanet called"Paradise".But when they have left the spaceship,a deacon crawls out
and makes a cliffhanger for a followup movie 😀

My idea for an Alien5 movie is as follows:
It takes place after alien4 and takes places on an earth in ruins.
TheRipleyClone has transformed into an entity that is producing eggs, and a lot of humans are affected, and
a war breaks out. They have to use a nuke on the swarms of xenomorphs and decidedes to travel
to the planet where they think the xenomorphs orginate from. There they find there are multiple
forms of xenomorphs. They manages to form a clone of a xenomorph that is able to communicate with them.
      And a peace is established.
But as allways Weyland-Yutani has spies that want the xenomorph for their biological weapon program.
And it is a surprice who the spy is. And that Weyland-Yutami has a lab on a spacestation not far from the xenomorph
planet. Where they finds forms of xenomorphs that noone has seen before.

The excitement I felt when I was a teen in the mid 2010’s hearing about Alien 5. Only for it to fizzle out and fade away. Being a kid in the early to mid 2000’s with the first 2 Halo games and seeing Aliens for the first time left a lasting impact on me since how much was taken from the first 2 films to create halo. I would watch Aliens multiple times a year as a kid. Colonial Marines is a guilty pleasure for me and I prefer to follow it largely for my own head cannon. I hate both resurrection and alien 3 but at least hicks survived in A:CM.
It just pains me learning about all the films abandoned. William Gibson’s Alien 3 would’ve honestly made it a contender for which film is my favorite of the first 3 films especially since I love neuromancer and johnny mnemonic. it will forever pain me that Neils film was canned. I largely blame Ridley but even then it was his vision that created my favorite film blade runner which helped birth the cyberpunk genre which leaves me bittersweet in the end.

Yeah the problem is that more often then not Scott has taken solely credit for Alien, and not only do others play into this but ignore the actual creators in Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. And if it wasn't for these 2 guys and the beautiful work of H. R. Giger there'd be no Alien franchise. His ego was so big he felt he had the right to stop Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5, and the studio went along with it in order for Scott to try to turn Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett beautiful Aliens series into another Blade Runner. I mean come on, the fan's wanted it and the actors who played Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop all were excited to do it. But the studio put it on hold cause Scott wanted his movies to come out first. I don't think there will be a 3rd movies, and since the guy is taking so long the Alien 5 was dropped altogether.

In all fairness, I would have wanted to see a proper sequel to Prometheus before the proposed Alien 5... it's unfortunate that the script they went with for A:C ensured that all interest in the brand would be snuffed out.
You're absolutely right about the writers and Giger's art; Scott had excellent source material to work with and the one instance of studio notes actually worked in our favor (Ash was a network decision). He was the tool that brought their work to life and not vice-versa.

I was kinda with you till your he brought their work to life and not vice-versa. Scott was just the director and didn't write the story or the screen play, and didn't create the Alien or the visuals. His not James Cameron who did most of the work for Aliens, and showed that anyone can do what Scott did. Hell Scott wasn't even the original guy they wanted to direct, he was like the third or fourth choice. So I'd say if it wasn't for these 3 men, Scott would of had nothing and not vice-versa.

One of them get's infected and a xenomorph is born. It turns out to be a queen, and a lot of the Weyland-Yutani humans are infected and then
a war breaks out.All the humans on the planet are wiped out and only a few manage to escape in a spaceship. Then they nuke the planet from orbit.
Then Weyland-Yutani regrets the decision and a hunt for the xenomorph begins. They get a tip that there's a crashed spaceship on lv426 and sends
the robot Ash on the Nostromo spaceship. But they are informed that the mission has failed and that Nostromo has gone missing. Then Weyland-Yutani get's
a tip about an xenomorph on Fiorina161 and sends a team of researchers there. They finds a surviving prisoner that is impreagnated and a queen is born.
Weyland-Yutani then wants to use the xenomorphs on the planets where the engineers are located because they want the technology to seed planets with life.
They also want the elixir that provides humans with prolongued life. After they have managed to give birth to a flock of xenomorphs, they drops them
on an engineer planet and causes everyone of them to die. Then they get hold of the blue elixir that gives
prolongued life. But several ships with engineers that where away from their planet when Weyland-Yutani wiped the
population out, pursue them and manages to get the elixir back, but gets trapped on the planet where both parties
crash. Then a battle takes place and the crew from Weyland-Yutani gets the elixir that gives them prolongued life

*FUN FACT* Both Prometheus and Covenant were never intended to act as PREQUELS.
Yes, originally Prometheus was intended to be a prequel. But when Lindelof was hired, he discussed with Ridley Scott that they should throw out the idea of making a prequel. Because he didn't want to be reduced to having to connect the dots with the previous Alien films.
Ridley Scott agreed with Lindelof. And even stated that the concept of using the xenomorph as the driving force behind the movies was "done, cooked". And that they needed instead to focus on the Engineers. Which is what they ended up doing in Prometheus.
This is the reason why Alien fans always run into trouble trying to connect Prometheus and Covenant to the OG films. Because they were never designed to be connected to those films. Instead, they were supposed to be seen as a REBOOT of the franchise. Set in the same universe but in an alternate timeline.
A universe where the Xenomorphs had a different origin and purpose. And where the "Space Jockey" was no longer an elephant-looking alien. But instead it was a humanoid alien 100% based on the Anunnaki myth - the one you see often in those "Ancient Aliens" videos and that claim that humans were created by them.
Anyway, I can still enjoy Prometheus for what it is: a failed but still entertaining reboot of the Alien franchise. Can't say the same about Covenant, tho.
To sum it up.... Prometheus and Covenant are NOT prequels to the OG Alien films. But where instead intended to restart the franchise. To give it a "new spin". In hopes of reviving an IP that Ridley Scott felt that it had ran its course.

    • @workingmemories2213
      @workingmemories2213  Před rokem

Yeah - Prometheus had some Alien grafted onto it because: recognizable IP and Covenant was their effort to dispel any confusion... which obviously blew up in their (our) faces.
If you remove the Xeno stuff from Prometheus near the end you've got a decently solid film (and one of the only 3D films that actually kinda worked).

Well done Sir, well done indeed. You are a young man compared to me. Some of your generations have... less appreciation for the first two movies. I first saw Aliens at Midnight in a theater with maybe three other people scattered around- on the eve of its release. I have to say that I did need to remind myself I was watching a movie more than once. Aliens may even edge out The Wrath of Khan for all time greatest squeals... Nah- but it comes damn close.
Riding home on a motorcycle at two in the morning, I had to control my urge to look up into every tree I passed under to see if there was a xenomorph trying to grab me. I kept thinking one minute you are fine and the next you are cocooned like Sargent Apone- waiting for a hatchling to burst through your chest.
    That was good movie making.
But just like Star Trek Wrath of Khan, that was the high point of the series.
The alien franchise has simply become more like a Junior year film project out of UC Berkley- better at "making statements" than being entertaining...
All the same things are hashed out again. Corporate greed, evil businessmen, hapless military, more corporate greed, more evil businessmen, hapless military and oh yeah, some stuff with aliens and androids... Whatever.
I gave up on the franchise after watching the third movie... Aliens had become a universe of waste, indeed a universal wasteland- just like every other moneymaking property in Hollywood.
But wait, I just got a text message from the Hollywood Psychic!
They are predicting that two or more movie studious will go into some form of bankruptcy soon or they will be merged after a leverage buyout, etc! Their second prediction? Someone like Elon Musk will buy up studios and turn them into what they should have always been- entertainment companies making good films.
That's right folks, you heard it here first. Lets see if the Hollywood Pythic is right.

The Queen mech armor made me wonder if Blomkamp was drawing inspiration from the ATAX figure from the old Kenner action figure line. Such a waste that his vision got left by the wayside in order to focus on Ridley's narrative of the Xenomorph as we know it existing because David-8 went full "Daddy didn't love me!" and decided he needed to prove his superiority when it came to playing God. I would trade in both Prometheus and Covenant for Bloomkamp's film. Good video!

They don't have to retcon anything and the cloning story could fit right in if they truly wanted to do so. They just have another group kidnap the characters from the Sulaco and replace their bodies with clones and send them on their way. It ends up being "too convenient" but this is what happens when you don't commit to canon. Personally, I think the Ripley character needs to be allowed to die. There are plenty of other characters in the universe that could be explored and utilized. They could also create a Ripley AI that is an expert on the Xenomorphs and goes through collecting data from other encounters, eventually being turned into an android that participates in the movie. Prometheus shows that the company can scan brain waves during sleep. They could certainly have collected 57 years of brain waves and additional while she was on the Sulaco and use that as the basis for the AI characters.

Paranoid certain highly skilled and professional types could sell out, and ultimately betray him once they got back to earth; Weyland is specific in just hiring some low-level, average Joe type employees in their respective fields in this particular not too distant future, so that they will just have more of this "do the job get paid" kind of attitude.
Or atleast that's how those characters all came across to me. But above all prometheus did help to really open up the whole lore of the Alien franchise, it had good solid world-building, add alot of depth to the origins of the ancient Xenomorph. The movie itself just could have really done with a much better, tighter script I.e. basically not having Lindelof's involvement whatsoever, so I will say Ridley screwed up there.
BUT it cannot be denied! I don't care what kind of fan you are, prometheus showed us that there are simply TWO very Different types of *Alien Fan*. There's the Alien fans who really luv that further, deeper exploration into the whole lore of the Xenomorph, and how it came to be, rested in its forever stasis on that planet old LV-426. Those fans love all that stuff, the mystery, and just subtly exploring all of that; NOT blowing open every single goddamn detail, but just delving further into all that stuff, while still retaining all that suspense and atmosphere.
What I always found interesting with Prometheus and Alien is the idea of one ancient Alien race of "biengs", stumbling across a whole other very ancient "alien" race, or Alien creature that is far beyond even them. Then you have us "Human Biengs" kind of caught up, in the middle of that.
But I digress, so you then have the other types of *Alien fan*. The ones who don't really appreciate all that mystery, or any kind of further exploration of the Xenomorph & Space Jockey lore. They just kind of almost romanticize the whole "Colonial Marines" humans. The badass military figures, "we come in, we kick ass and we goin get sum. That's right, you want to go and get sum." That kind of gung ho mitary hardened unit, going up against hordes of Xenos, "absolutely badass!" "You secure that shit Hudson! Somebody wake up Hicks." LOL.
I mean it is cool I muv Apone and the Colonial Marines, they do look frickin awesome, I remember seeing the dropshop come down and the APC just rolls out, all that stuff.
This is the thing, you see I'm a passionate Alien fan and I can actually appreciate BOTH of what these two different kind of Alien Films have to offer. It's obvious "Aliens" is more of a rip-roaring, roller coaster of a ride, more heavily focused on Action with respectable levels of violence and gore thrown in. I mean these are Xenos were talking about. Fast, agile creatures, blood for acid, uniquely very strong and can seriously mess you up.
In Scott's og "Alien 1979" masterpiece, that scene where the Xeno just grabs Parker I mean he's a cool character because even though he comes across as though he hates Ripley early on and he's only there for a nice big paycheck. Once shit gets real Parker steps up, he completely ally with Ripley and he tries to save Lambert from the Alien. He just gets killed up bad, Xeno teeth-bursts his frickin head. But then what it does to Lambert, the masterful way in which Ridley Scott shoots that whole scene, and he never actually shows any kind of penetration in Lambert, he just gives you enough, the shot of that tail, looking like a phallus slowly going up between her legs, and Veronica Cartwright, I mean holy shit, her whole performance of just true, raw Fear through the film and especially in that scene of her death.
I gotta say as a kid if arnd 9 or 10 staying up watching Alien late. And I mean I'd been consuming alot of 80s neo/cyberpunk style Anime back then too, Genocyber and the Gyver. So at the point of Lambert's death and it then cuts away to her horrible blood-curdling screams echoing. I always imagined this image that stuck with me afterward, of the Xenomorph just forcing it's exoskeleton bone-like tail right up into Lambert, and all the way through her insides, basically physically ripping her whole body apart at that point.
Sounds really nasty I know, but that's just the power of really good directing skill, imagination of how to set up a scene, tension and extreme violence without ever actually showing any real graphic details.

Cont - but yeh there are those other Alien fans who ever since Jim Cameron's Aliens just want that kind of exhilarating action and nothing much else.
I'm the kind of rare Alien fan who is able to appreciate BOTH of what ALIEN & ALIENS gave us, because they are two very different types of Alien Film. I just only wish 20th Century Fox studios at the time Niel Blomkamp pitched his "Alien 5" idea, would have basically had a good talk to Ridley Scott, and encouraged him and Blomkamp to actually COLLABORATE!
Because at that point *Outside Input* was desperately needed. Even though Ridley Scott is this genius director who truly did help define the Sci Fi Horror Genre, and basically made the Alien franchise what it is, just like George Lucas, Spielberg and basically every 'Master' of their Craft; over time you do need some fresh talent to come in and kind of take over. And I truly feel Blomkamp was that guy, BUT only with Ridley's guidance, the two basic teaming up.
This is what I strongly believe SHOULD HAVE BEEN! I think Blomkamp AND Ridley should have co-wrote the Sequel to Scott's "Prometheus". Call it - *Alien Covenant* cause that is a cool title imo. But actually make it a nice blend of tense, suspense. Actually provide us fans Real ANSWERS to the previous installment of Prometheus.
      Who were the Engineers?
What were they ultimately trying to do with the Xeno eggs?
Why did they plan somekind of assimilation, or propagation of the human race?
And HOW exactly did that "outbreak" occur on LV-223!?
Was it spectacular, drastic error on the part of the Engineers themselves, where one of them 'accidently' goes and let's out the black goo viralization of that whole temple/facility.
OR Was it somekind of purposeful "Sabotage" on the part of one of these own, a kind of Rogue Engineer who did what they did as a way of preventing that mission to earth; stopping something that they didn't believe in. Maybe due to them forming a bond with the very early civilizations of Man, they had originally been tasked with teaching, imparting 'knowledge' to. The very *Prometheus* who stole Fire and gave to man and was eternally punished for afterward.
Thus how that Rogue Engineer ended up, I mean the one fossilised to his chair in his "Derelict" *Juggernaut* Spacecraft, with a apparent Xeno burst from his chest. Coincidentally Symbolic almost, to the very myth of the titan *Prometheus*, whose punishment for giving fire to humans, was being chained to a rock and having crows eat their liver eternally.
But I digress I'm possibly looking way too much into all of this. That's just the kind of *Alien Fan* I am, I can see all the potential here where maybe others don't want to.
I just wish if they could have made Covenant to have a balance of maybe those of us Fans answers to Prometheus; then made in the second half maybe delve into alot of balls-to-the-wall ACTION, and gory violence and carnage.
We could have had a Military Investigation team that was sent out to find out what happened to the Prometheus mission, they end up picking up a signal that they track to the location of the Covenant Planet instead.
So instead of that stupid Colonist group of characters we got in Covenant; David has basically led this military team to the planet he has been stuck on for the past 10 years.
And this is where the carnage ensues. It would be a way to achieve BOTH elements of what these two differing sides of our ALIEN FANBASE have wanted.
Prometheus fans get their ANSWERS, in Shaw, who in a Prologue opening scene, arrives at the Covenant planet, and before David unleashes the black goo weapon on the unsuspecting enginner populace. He plays it clever, just like when he led his Maker to the last surviving Engineer ( and basically to his doom). David leads Shaw to meet the Enginner Elders, and we see David act as a translator between the Elders and Shaw.
And Shaw recieves some dark truths from these Elders. That they originally were carefully helping spearhead the early Human Race to Sentience. Popping back every Century, checking in on how *Humanity* was progressing. And every time the Engineers would leave in their colossal ships, they would use their ships to create a specific formation in earth's skies.
This was done to kind of etch into the early humans minds, this configuration of circles in the sky; ofwhich the Engineers had done with the assurance once Humanity had progressed enough over time, they would come to understand this configuration as a kind of "Star Map", where they would one day take to the skies, to space and venture out to meet their makers.
This is what Holloway & Shaw found, one of many of these hieroglyphs, murals and ancient cave paintings of the early human civilizations who had originally came into contact with the Engineers.
And this is what the Elders explain to Elizabeth Shaw, then they get into where it all went horribly wrong.
As human beings were slowly progressing and learning, they eventually discovered the capacity for WAR. Man began killing his brother, over stupid infantile things such as "Land", then power.
The Engineers on their last visit we're gravely disappointed with what they saw. Man was now regressing now growing. Stuck in this infancy of fighting with himself.
The Engineers are a race of Humanoid Alien Beings, far beyond the silly ideals of "War", fighting over land, materials, resources. Engineers are physically very strong, yet when you see that lastcsurvivng Engineer that was awoken from his 2000 year cryo sleep, he attacks the humans only when it appears he becomes offended by what the elderly, arrogant and delusional Peter Weyland is asking of him - immortality.
Its evident the Engineers can live very long lifespans, possibly for some thousands of years. So IF they were "Immortal", why would they even need Cryosleep chambers?
This is what I find interesting in how that last surviving Engineer of the 223 outbreak only got violent after he learned of what Weyland was after. And then when he gets violent, he's not throwing punches, has no "guns" in the conventional sense. He just uses very basic pushes, and throws, still more than enough to kill the humans.
It is from here that Shaw realises what had occurred. The Engineers had basically given up on Humanity, they viewed them as a failed experiment that simply needed to be wiped out, and possibly start again. And so they executed the mission on LV-223, of a covert of Engineers to head to Earth and unload a payload of their bioweapon, the "Black Good" viral bombs, synthesised from the original DNA of the ancient Xenomorph creature that they the Engineers discovered.
From here they could of had the Elders kill Shaw, or maybe this is when David flees back to the ship and unleashes the black goo vir bombs wiping out the Engineers.
Cut to 10 yrs later, and that's where you have some Colonial Marine types, maybe a investigative team, who pick up a signal and it leads them to the Covenant homeworld.
There's just loads they could have done that could have satisfied BOTH sides of this Fanbase.
But you end it where the whole human characters all die fighting David's Xenos, absolutely NO subverting the lore by making David the "Creator" of the Xenos cause that's just epically stupid.
But you basically establish that David only "replicated" the original ancient Xenomorphic lifeforms were all familiar with, and he came quite close I'm it's similarity. At the end maybe you could have a twist where Shaw is actually still alive, and Daivd had basically kept her in a cryo pod, possibly for some further devious plans he has to do with the xenos.
From here, they could have then showed how David escaped the planet in one of the military task force ships, out somewhere into space, possibly even that "Origae-6" destination.
Then you would jump years into the future, and Ridley would pass on the reigns to Neil Blomkamp, and Fox allow him to make his ALIEN 5 movie, a sequel to Cameron's original "Aliens" movie. Picking up on Ripley, Newton & Hicks, from all this awesome concept art.
I mean it's just Criminal Fox not going with Neil's movie, he was really introducing some cool new ideas and concepts.
Then they could have seen how Neil's movie fared, and then brought back in David & Shaw, I'm a movie set after the events of Blomkamp's film.
I guarantee IF the Fox studio had done something like that, ALL US FANS would be united back on the same level and absolutely loving this whole direction for the franchise.
