    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you!
      Great question. I definitely think they'll improve this, yes. They've shown that they can dramatically improve performance with software before (e.g. Ambient Sound Control) so I expect they're working on this. As for catching up to Sennheiser's level...no. I don't think Sony could be this far off now, and still manage to catch up. I think Sony may make the switching faster, but I don't we'll ever see it be as good as Sennheiser!

    Great review! Got a couple questions. Can you still use noise canceling if you use the 3.5mm jack instead of bluetooth? And how does the sound compare when using the 3.5mm jack vs bluetooth?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 3 lety +6

      Thank you!
      Yes, you can use noise cancelling with the 3.5 mm cable. The sound is actually better with the 3.5 mm cable - as long as the headphones are turned on! With the headphones off, they don't sound as good as bluetooth, noticeably so. But connected over a 3.5 mm cable and turned on is the best listening experience you can get - especially if you plug into a DAC or high-end system.
      A lot of people can't notice the difference between this and bluetooth though, it's subtle but something that audiophiles can appreciate!

    Excellent review as always! You covered up essentially everything that was needed to be said, which I’m very happy to see. Only one thing that was also maybe worth mentioning, is the fact that speak-to-chat can be enabled/disabled through the right earcup’s touch panel as well, as I believe it is a really useful yet never talked about aspect.
    You can do so by using two fingers (e.g. your index and middle finger, and I recommend spreading them out a bit) and holding them on your right earcup for about 2-3 seconds, until the headphones’ voice assistant announces “Speak-to-chat (de)activated”.
    Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the review, and as an XM4 user myself I really think you definitely did the product justice.

      That's an interesting point about speak-to-chat that I didn't realise! I figured most people would just use the app to turn it on or off, but it's cool if you can do it straight from the headphones - well spotted!
      It'll be interesting to see if any headphones can top these now!

    Great review! Can you comment on how deep the ear cups are on the XM4 vs the Momentum 3? For context, I have what can be referred to as "dumbo ears." I currently own the Sennheiser HD1 over ears (aka Momentum 2), and after a little while of use, the tips (outer edges) of my ears start to hurt because they are pushing up against the cloth on the driver housing. I actually ordered the Sony XM4 yesterday (with the Prime Deal Amazon had with the gift card) because I saw a review that said the ear cups are slightly bigger and more comfortable than the XM3. But I am a fan of the Sennheiser sound signature as well, so I'm debating ordering the Momentum 3 to compare the sound and fit on my head. I do appreciate good bass, but not to the point where everything else is sacrificed (like with say Beats). I do also own the Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds, and like their sound as well. Any input is greatly appreciated!

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry this took me so long to get back to you! I guess you probably already know the answer for yourself now, but I think Sony’s earcups are a little bit more spacious. I find them lighter too, and more airy - so comfort in general is better. I don’t think you’ll be able to tune the Sony’s to get the sound of Sennheiser - so you might miss that sound signature if you like it. Sony tends to be a bit warmer and more bassy. Overall, Sony are still my top pick, but it really depends on what features you prioritise! Any questions just let me know!

    • @danielchavez5807
      @danielchavez5807 Před 3 lety +1

      @@insidetechltd no worries. I appreciate you getting back to me! I ended up buying the Sonys to check them out. They are great! Sound is slightly different than the Momentums, but I enjoy them a lot. If I had to describe the Sony sound profile, I would probably go with "fun." Having these to compare to the Momentum 2, I can see why the M2 are more uncomfortable to my ears. The insides of the cups where the tips of my ears touch (towards the back of the cups) on the Sonys can be depressed easily, as there seems to be a gap of some sort in the driver design. On the Momentums, it is hard plastic evenly flat along the whole insides of the cups. So on the Sonys, the tips of my ears can rest easily on the cloth of the ear cup, whereas on the Sennheisers, they are pushed hard up against the hard plastic inside the cups. Do you know if the Momentum 3 has the same design as the Momentum 2, with the hard plastic covering the whole ear cup?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 3 lety +1

      Nice! I'm not sure exactly about the difference with the M3 and M2, sorry. However, there is a hard bit of plastic sticking out inside the Momentum 3 headphones. Personally, this didn't affect me - my ears didn't touch it at all (I have medium-sized ears). But someone else specifically complained to me that their ears were touching this bit of plastic and that it hurt - so this might be something to watch out for. With Sony, the earcups are more spacious so there's little/no chance of touching the plastic parts. Best way to find out is if you can try them with an option for free returns (e.g. Amazon), but I hope this helps a bit!

    Concise and to the point! So glad you mentioned the multi pairing differences between the Sony and the Sennheiser! I think the Sony, Bose and Sennheiser all bring a lot to the table! • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 3 lety +3

      Thank you very much! I figured it might be an important feature for people deciding between the two (especially since multipoint is the biggest few feature the M4s bring).
      As for that full comparison...well you maybe noticed I haven't been mentioning Bose much recently. And that's because I was quite disappointed by the 700 headphones. For me, they actually downgraded in a few ways compared to the QC 35 II, like having a tricky to use control scheme, less bass and especially with not being as comfortable (the QC 35 II's best selling point vs the competition was comfort). But obviously on the other side, the QC 35 II are a bit old now to fairly compare against the new Sony headphones or Sennheiser, with dated features like micro-USB charging and poorer ANC.
      The lineups are just a but all over the place in terms of the latest releases, and I just feel like there may be a new Bose competitor coming soon (and also a new Sennheiser one), and if so, then it would be a good time to compare all three!

It only makes sense to because they want you to upgrade if you didn't wait. But seriously since I'm in the market for new "cans" I definitely would consider the X3 because of the $100 less. I'll have to out weight the gain of the features you point out. I may just spend the extra. I'll recheck again later on other multipoint headsets. That definitely is a big plus (without lag). Thanks. @insidetechltd  Před 2 lety +1

      I probably won't just because this is all standard industry terminology so it's quite widely documented already. I'm happy to answer any specific questions you have though! "Warm" for instance refers to a sound signature that mostly emphasises the lower-end sound frequencies (e.g. the bass and lower mid-range sounds). Usually the high end frequencies are quite mellow or not sharp or harsh sounding. If you compare the sound signature to something that is completely 'flat' (all frequencies are equally amplified) then a pair of headphones leaning towards the "warmer" side would sound more bass-heavy and not have any sharp high frequencies. So the sound is comfortable and relaxing

      @@MaseraSteve2 Sony have set their Wireless headphone/TWE brand on knocking Bose off the top spot for ANC, they are also fixated on AI, user experience and for instance voice calls is very much taking a back seat. I’ve just been looking at my XM4’s and the physical Mic array actually to me, looks well placed, not sure why some are criticising it? They have plenty of mikes for calls, more mikes are mainly to reduce wind noise, I.e. more and smaller. They also seem to be fixated with the multi function button, Why you have to give up ambient switching when you already have the ability to press and hold right ear cup to summon native voice assistant , which could easily be a user choice of what to map it to makes no sense for instance. Why no mute button, how hard can that be? I will never understand consumer electronics divisions of companies like Bose, Sony etc, they make such idiotic decisions, but hey we keep buying them so, 🥵😳🤯

      I'll be honest, I had a very bad experience with Bowers and Wilkins as a customer and have not recommended them since. However, from what I understand, the PX7 sound quality is much flatter and natural than most competitors (including Sony). I've heard the sound isn't as exciting as headphones from Sony or Sennheiser and is lacking in deep bass that people often enjoy.

    I bought the 1000XM4 for Zoom Conference calls and find that they are not designed for conference calls for the following reasons: 1. You cannot hear yourself talking, so not sure how you are coming across to your audience 2. Although the noise cancelling works for me in shutting off ambient sounds, the audience hears the ambient sounds loud and clear and find that to be very disturbing.
    Conclusion: Although very good for listening for myself, they are terrible for conference calls when you have to talk to an audience for the above 2 reasons. Thinking of returning this headphone..... :-(

    They are one of the best ANC headphones out there. I got to give it to them. But if you are bald or have little hair on the crown of your head the clamping force can be too much. Also, although the earcups make the headphones spacious, on hot days they can be very sweaty to have on. It doesn't take more than 10 min. on a sunny day to make your ears sweaty.

    11:00 how is removing aptx downgrade? Isn't LDAC better in sound quality than aptx? If yes then aptx seems pointless imo.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před rokem

      It’s a downgrade because it’s an option that the older model had that the M4 doesn’t, first and foremost. Removing features is always a downgrade. But also, not everyone can get a stable connection with LDAC. If LDAC is using its most stable transfer rate, then the quality is actually lower than aptX HD, for example. People who had such issues may have wanted to use aptX instead for greater stability (and aptX is often better than AAC on Android) but won’t have an option with the M4 headphones. Some people may not have a phone that supports LDAC, so that’s another reason.
      If you can use LDAC at its highest setting without problems, then you shouldn’t notice not having aptX and therefore it won’t be a downgrade for you. But in literal terms it is, and it will negatively affect some people

    I don’t find these headphones very comfortable. The crown of my head gets sore after a couple of hours, and the area of my head touched by the ear pads get really hot after 20 minutes. I’m constantly feeling a need to adjust the headphones, which invariably causes me to accidentally touch the touch controls.
    I think the headband is too narrow. It’s about a quarter of an inch narrower than my last Sony headphones. It’s a frustrating experience.
