Soda Stereo is regarded as a legendary band throughout Latin America. Tragically, Gustavo Cerati fell into a coma for nearly five years and passed away at a relatively young age, but his legacy remains truly extraordinary. 🙌🏻

Context: Soda Stereo is arguibly the best spanish speaking band of all time. Bigger than any mexican, spanish, or any other bands. All Latin America loved/loves them.
They dissolved in 1997 but came back in 2007 just for this tour you are watching. They played like 15-20 gigs all over Latin America and dissolved again for good. Three years later the singer/guitar fell into coma minutes after performing in his solo tour and died years later. For us born from the 80s on there is no greater musical legend than Gustavo Cerati.

It is ridiculous how Hollywood depicts a completely false image of Latin America, with music that seems to be trapped a century ago, such as the constant playing of tangos, when it is an entire world of rock & roll and rich music, whose quality can match the best of british rock & pop.

Soda Stereo, the most important Latin American rock band and one the best rock bands ever. Period. Gustavo Cerati (RIP), was one of the most talented singer-songwriter-guitarist-front men to ever grace a stage. If I sound like I'm exaggerating, all you have to do is listen to and watch Soda Stereo or Cerati's own solo work. One recommendation? "Corazón Delator" from this same tour, the 2007 _Me Verás Volver_ tour. Soda was one of those rare bands that really did sound and play better live than on studio records. So, whatever recommendation you get, make sure you listen to a live version first, preferably from that tour.

Another argie here, Cerati was a good musician, I always considered him a snob that tried too hard to be a rockstar, but over time I learnt to appreciate his music. I'm glad people still appreciate Argentinian rock, there is much more than Cerati though. I'd recommend you to listen to Sumo, Los Redonditos de Ricota and Hermetica/Almafuerte. They all had very skilled guitarists(Ricardo Mollo, Skay Belinson and Claudio Marciello respectively).

acurate described in comments how huge as biggest latin american band they were, euphoria of their shows, big stadiums over the continent and total sodamania, in the 80s musically there were compared with the cure, u2 , simple minds, duran duran that very british sound and image, but they were way more sophisticated in harmony and arrengement, plus gustavo was a guitar virtuoso soloist so u right about the vanhalen like lead, check other songs that era are mastepieces like this one, sidenote the lyrics, incredibly sophisticated for such ultra popular band, their 90s is like another band they became more noisy experimental and alternative rock sounding.

Cerati was a wild animal composer, guitarist, singer and performer, with Italian an Irish roots. What he does in that special performance is quite difficult to recreate , he was really skillful and a complete artist. This version has some arrangements that you won’t find anywhere else but this tour, and one of the highlights is end chord reminding Phill Collins probably producers using similar ideas or just coping what works as Cerati also used to do very well

that riff played like Michael is playing it, slower and funkier, sounds like a guitar part off of David Bowie's Low record. pretty cool

Cerati un guitarrista con un gran sentido musical y estético, que sabía usar sus buenos recursos técnicos en función de los buenos temas que creaba. No todos pueden lograr eso, solo los muy buenos y completos guitarristas.

I might get hate for saying this but Soda Stereo was one of the very very few rock artist with Quality and Sophistication able to fill arenas all over America.
There are many other popular rock bands in Argentina that fill stadiums but none of them have real quality.

Tremendous analysis! Thanks for this. I recommend that you take a look at the concerts from the Me Veras Volver Tour and also at "The Last Concert." Soda Stereo and Gustavo Cerati are the biggest thing in Latin America along with Charly Garcia and Spinetta. Gustavo in particular, and according to many people he is on par with any English or American musician. Once you review his discography, his compositional ability, his talent as a top guitarist and singer, there is no doubt. The only limitation was the language. I send you a hug.

I play then in my car all the time. Also Enanitos Verdes they also have a few hits and also GIT but GIT only had like 2 good hits. Soda Stereo is ageless music. You can hear this in any year in any decade and it always sounds new and real bangers. You put his in any club in any country in the world and people just love them in no time. If Cerati was still alive today..man they would have keep making huge hits.
