The day that Kobe passed I was working retail at a bike shop and the news slowly started trickling in from other customers and employees. I literally could not believe it and was in a daze. When I got home and getting ready for bed the emotions started to hit me. I went to bed that night weeping. Man, what a crazy roller coaster couple days around Kobe's passing. I'm from the UK and been a Laker fan since the start of the '07/08 season. Kobe was really one of the only players I knew in the beginning, and I gravitated to him immediately watching his MVP season. When we went up against the Celtics I didn't even realise there was this historic rivalry but after we lost to them, I hated them too.
In Oct 2010 I was lucky enough to see Kobe play 8 minutes in a pre season game here in the UK after recovering from all his injuries he played through in the finals to beat those damned Celtics. Thank you for those 8 minutes Kobe! Fast forward to 2020, I'm now a lifelong Laker fan, been through the ups and downs with them, even engaged to a girl from Kobe's home state of PA. I flew over a bunch to see my her and some friends there, at this point it's my home away from home.
Now, I have an absolutely terrible memory, but this I remember so clearly. It was January 25th, me, my fiance and my best mate all went out to Olive Garden together. We had our meal and as we're leaving I accidentally took a napkin, and as any Laker/Kobe or even just basketball fan period would do, I turn around, yell "Kobe!" And shoot the napkin like a basketball into a glass from about 15 feet away. That was the last time I did that classic move we all have done before, whether throwing a piece of paper in a bin or a napkin in a glass, we've all taken that spin around J while yelling "Kobe!". After Olive Garden, I witnessed history as LeBron passed Kobe on the all time scoring list. What a day that was, even though we lost the game against the 76ers, I was there with maybe 20,000 other people to see history be made live and in person. What other random kid from the UK can say they were at that game? I was living on cloud 9.
Of course, that all came crashing down the next day...
Now I know we all have our stories from that day, and I'm sure mine was like all of yours, I didn't believe it. I figured, even if it is true, it's Kobe, he'll walk out of the fiery hell-hole completely unscathed, dragging everyone else on his back. He was just THAT GUY. But, rather than dwell on that, what was, what could have been etc. I want to just say thank you all of Laker Nation, to me it's not just a Nation, it's worldwide, and Kobe brought that to me. R.I.P Mamba, thank you so much for the memories ❤️

Man!! Kobe helped me out so much man! He gave me so much motivation, the ability to focus on what’s important to me and most of all, to be the best I can be everyday. My favorite Kobe moment was actually when he was walking off the floor in 2008 when he lost to the Celtics. I remember seeing the determination in his eyes/walk that he was gonna come back better than ever. He than won B2B and that was the happiest moment of my life as a fan seeing him happy! He’s the best, he deserved the best. RIP!

Kobe's death reminds us that he was human and that we are human. He was the kid from Philly who rose to stardom thru hard work and believing in himself. Kobe attained greatness in basketball and his personal life outside of basketball, in our memories he achieved almost god like status. He has reminded us of our human condition and that we can attain greatness if we strive to be the best we can be.

I remember getting out of the shower like any other day. I got a phone call from my mom asking if I'm ok. I had no idea what she was talking about. Then she told me the horrible news that Kobe passed away. Like a lot of other people, I was in denial at first. So I turned on the TV and everything seemed normal. Until the normal broadcast was interrupted, and reports started coming in, confirming all of our worst fears about the news. It was like the whole world just stopped. I still get emotional and cry when I think about it. I have two daughters, so I can't even imagine what it was like for the families that lost loved ones that day. 💔 Prayers to all the families that lost loved ones in that horrible accident. 🙏🏼 Kobe and Gigi will live on forever in our hearts 💜 Thanks Trevor for being a blessing to Lakers Nation! I’m Italian. Move to Orange County from Italy in 1995. Grow up watching showtime Lakers at 3.am in Italy. In 96 here comes Kobe growing up in Italy. Gathering family and friend every week. Joy, fun, inspiration. Game after game for 20 years. Living 15 minutes from Newport Coast. Never met the guy, but felt like I lost a family member. People die every day on freeways and of cancer. Can’t explain the deep connection without being connected at all…..

I had just returned from the hospital after 5 months of rehabilitation trying to learn to walk again. That's when I saw the morning news. It took me several hours of denial before it set in. I was a kid of the Showtime era, so I remember not believing any group of Lakers could measure up to that group. Then, Kobe came. *sigh* It's hard to put into words how I felt when he passed. He was at the pinnacle of life, and who knows how much higher he could have soared. That's the hardest part...the what ifs.

Kobe was more than an athlete. He was both inspirational and aspirational. He never limited himself on the court or in life. We knew he wasn't perfect, though he was always growing. Those of us who'd watched him from the beginning of his career also watched him grow into a man. He didn't hide his flaws through the lens of a publicist. Lastly, he was an all-time great player who oftentimes performed miracles on the floor and he let fans know he was doing it for us.

I was so devastated, like a part of me died, because I truly felt a connection with Kobe. His work ethic, his beliefs, even his sense of humor, but I was also the same age as him. I was definitely in denial for a while, cried for days. But what definitely helps is the mamba mentality book, I made sure to buy it and I've gained so much insight not only on his life but of my own life. To reflect and know that I can be better, and that I want to be is the key! But I know we all share that misery and grieve of the loss of him and his daughter. RIP Kobe and Gigi as well as the others!!

So a few days later I'm flipping through the channel I come across channel 9 the Lakers were playing I knew it was the Lakers because of the colors of the jerseys, the jerseys colors were purple and gold I remember it was the same colors as the back pack that stood out to me so I kept watching the game and I remember watching Kobe play right away I fell in love with the way he played I became a die hard Lakers fan because of Kobe Bryant I was a kid at this time , I grew up wanting to be like him wearing his jerseys while I'm playing basketball on the streets counting down in my head 3... 2 .... 1 Kobe! 3 years later and it still doesn't seem real. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I found out. My mother texts me every year on this day to check in and express how she still wishes she could make it untrue and that it just doesn't seem real. In the more immediate aftermath I got a tribute tattoo. More recently I names my second son Kobe after Kobe "Bean" Bryant, my favorite player of all-time and the individual I think is the GOAT. I can't wait to share all my Kobe memories with my son, so he has an appreciation for his namesake. Since his passing (and after his memorial) I have not worn either of my Kobe jerseys. This past Christmas my wife had them framed and I think that is so perfect. Thank you all at Lakers Nation for all your hard work. I appreciate you.

First of all and always, I wake up everyday and thank God for another day on earth! Today's unfortunate anniversary of the passing of Kobe Bryant is a perfect example as to why it is important to continue to do this without fail.
R.I.P # 8/24. You will always be," the", Laker and you will always be in my hearts and in my prayers.

Kobe is gone but all the good he stood for is alive and well. On his last day, he was so thoughtful in his spirituality. He met his church leader and even called the son of Shaquille O'Neal on his last day. Everyone that passed left a beautiful impact on all of our lives like a gift from LordGodJesusChrist. Lakers, forever!

That fateful day, which is forever embedded in my memory, started during a meaningless NFL all-star game where after the commercial, there was a picture of Kobe with the dates 1978-2020, and I'm like, what the hell does that mean? That's what you see when someone has died, and Kobe certainly did not seem to be a possible candidate for that! Kobe cannot, could not, and would not die! He seemed as alive, in legend and fact, as anyone on earth. And that is where the reality of life sunk in, that no matter who we are, we are all vulnerable, for in the end, our hearts are but sands' of clay in the dust.
We can only live in the complete awareness that Kobie's spirit has been set free and is now engaged with still helping as many people in the Astral plane, just like he did here. He will never quit, for he was from Philly, a true warrior of the heart who would only take it out and eat it in front of you if you were an opponent. He, like all Laker fans, liked being a champion, and we will be forever blessed for his contribution to that. Metaphorically, all Lakers fans were holding up Larry O'Brien trophy to the ceiling right along with him in the five he gave us. But he gave the world so much more, for that was Kobie. He will be loved forever.

I remember the look on everyone's face in the grocery store, as I was being given the horrific news over the phone some people were looking at me with sad eyes nodding as if to say "it's true" like they knew exactly what I had been just told. The butcher came from behind the counter to ask me was it true. Me and my daughter left immediately with groceries still in the cart,I cried like a baby in my truck for about 20 minutes nonstop as my daughter tried to comfort me. I'll never forget how sad I was that day😔😢

I am from the Phillippines. I remember that day so vividly. January 27th was my son's birthday and I needed to sleep early that night (26th) but I could not. 5:30 AM and still wide awake, tossing and turning on my bed. When I woke up around 9:30AM and checked my phone , THAT was when I knew why. Kobe died. My heart hurts until now. I grew up watching him and will forever love Lakers because of him. RIP Legend.

For me It was a day I will never forget. I saw on my phone Kobe Killed. I figured it was a headline Kobe Killed it last night at the Oscars etc. When I finally opened my phone and read the headline, I ran to the TV and sat there STUNNED!!! I didn't notice until you said something Trevor about Lakers Nation and sticking together. I contacted all my Laker Nation Family after his death. I never realized how together we were until this happened and watching the coverage all week long on TV was incredible, never seen soo many people crying!!! I will never forget what my friend stated Laker Nation is hurting today. So on this tragic day I say here's to Lakers Nation!!! We are strong!!! Keep the Mamba Mentality!

I was living in Malaysia at the time and was back in the states for a short visit; I had the tv on at my parents house and the lower thirds popped up saying Kobe had reportedly died along with Gianna and others in a helicopter crash. I read it and said “nope, impossible.” It wasn’t till other news agencies started reporting that it sunk in… Kobe’s ability to seemingly Will his way through any situation and how he could tune out his critics always inspired me growing up. He was literally one of the most hated athletes, especially after the Colorado incident, but by the end he turned his haters into fans. I teared up writing this but I’m happy to know people around the world are striving to be better today because of Kobe’s impact.
