What You Didn't Know About the HK416 & How To Build Your Own

  • The Heckler & Koch HK416 is an updated, piston-action derivative of the M4 carbine. It's been issued to U.S. Special Forces troops - and yes, it's the rifle used by the Navy Seals who ended the career of Osama bin Laden. Now, you can assemble your own with an HK416 parts kit from Brownells. Broken down from complete German rifles that saw little-to-no use, these kits lack only the lower receiver, barrel, and bolt. The good news is Brownells offers those parts separately, so you can get ALL the components you need to build a complete, semi-auto HK416 rifle. In this video, Paul Levy explains the differences between the HK416 and the M4, and then he shows you how assemble an HK416 kit.

      @Joshua Bressel I've never heard of a registered auto sear? Always been told that the firearm(receiver on an AR) must be registered with the the ATF as an NFA firearm. Parts that make a firearm convert, like auto sears, I thought were made illegal?
      Would like to know more about this legal auto sear? Who made it? I'm assuming same process as machine gun to possess?

    My 14.5 centurion arms socom barrel has the same notch for its gas block would I be able to use that barrel on a 416? as I would because of how strong the materials are in the barrel it has the MK 40 series 4150 CHF blanks that were made into colt SOCOM barrel but extremely tight gas block for as well as it being indexed and a very thick barrel and speaking of thick the chrome lining is extremely excessive it’s definitely a floral barrel so it’s gonna hopefully last time long time and hopefully get it on some SOT select fire lowers as it deserves but what’s the guy saying for a 416 for the 10.4 and for the 14.5 because if I could swap that barrel in I would one it’s chrome lime is it and has probably over par HK materials are mostly the better but the original barrel blank was meant for a saw type barrel
    I really feel that the systems are gonna be the future of AR platforms The BCG for example is a spring around the firing pin and I believe it has a spring loaded rotating bolt it would be nice to get one of those Miller gas block variance but they just started selling Built uppers and I would buy honestly I would want the 10.4 and a 14.5 both with the MK 1 rail if I wanted to go all out I’d send this shit out to get tanodized but you can use a regular ass lower rather than sending stuff out have that done and then giving it laser etched that’s going to be expensive long process oh week waiting for something stupid like an optic man even drives me nuts are but 1100 bucks for a belt for 16 upper basically add 100 bucks for a muzzle device at 1200 to 1500 with a geissele rail
    If you were going to do one of these build the rails do get hard to find sometimes and they also their triggers are hard to find if you get an HK lower make sure your trigger pin and trigger is the right trigger make sure it’s in HK made by GEISS Don’t just throw an SSAE unless you’re using a different lower which is easier you don’t have to worry about in the magazine issues by the GEN 3P Mag solved that

  • @tm530
    @tm530 Před 5 lety

    I have 2 questions for Brownells on this build. First, I did not see any grease used on the receiver extension/barrel nut during assembly. Is there a specific one recommended? Or just the same grease that one would use on any AR assembly? (moly?) I have removed the barrel nut on a factory HK MR556 and there is some kind of grease there. Second, I did not see a Go, No-Go or Field gauge used to check head space after assembly? Is this something that was done off screen or did you skip it? And if so, why? Thanks in advance!

    • @brownells
      @brownells  Před 5 lety +3

      Standard procedures, including lubrication, should always be used when doing a build. Same with go/no go headspacing. Due to YT regulations and time constraits we often leave things out. This is also why you dont see "How To" builds any longer.

Then you can buy a 416 carre&bolt and that be about 600 right there. Then you can buy a gas block for the 416 which will set you back about 300-400. Then you go put on the new gas block, chop the barrel, and permanently pin&weld the barrel.
      The barrel is stainless steel on the HK 556 but I don't think you'll find a chrome line one. Even the brownelles 416 profile barrel is melonite and bare steal. The actual 416 barrel, if you can find one, will cost you roughly 1500-3000 depending on the condition.

    Jesus H. Christ..... This guy has NO BUSINESS instructing anyone on proper installation of an AR style rifle. He missed several things, 2 just off the top of my head is no assembly grease on any of the threaded components and over-torquing the muzzle device with no torque wrench. That's a GREAT way to burn out the muzzle end of the barrel prematurely while compromising accuracy.
