Homelessness. What to do. What to do. 1. Take action to publicly and/or privately, or both, end it orr drastically minimize it. E.g. vote for people who will act according to your ideas on how to end/minimize it. Go to the encampments and get to know the people and help as much as possible at least one person. 2. Move someplace where everyone has a home that suits your requirements. 3. STFU and deal with it.

I lived in Oregon, Jackson County, for 4 years. I moved there from Texas, to be closer to my daughters. Honestly I would tell you to keep looking, while Oregon has some beautiful scenery, so does most of the Western US, as well as does the South. The climactic zones are varied in the US and it well worth a long road trip.

With the exception of Crater Lake, every place on this list is in the Northern half of the state. FYI, Southern Oregon has just as many amazing spots to offer. Jacksonville is an amazing historic town. Ashland has the Shakespeare Festival, which is one of best theater companies in the country. The Rogue River offers amazing rafting and fishing opportunities. Avid hikers can hike from Grave’s Creek all the way to the coast following the river. And the Rogue Valley has some of the best vineyards in the state. Moral of the story, there’s more to Oregon than Portland the surrounding areas.

There are so many other places in Oregon that could have been covered like Willamatte Valley wineries, Ashland with the Shakespeare Festival, Klamath Falls with the Lava Bed Caves and Pacific Crest Trail and other various trails. Mt. McLaughlin could have been featured. Coos Bay could have been featured. I feel like Southern and Central Oregon were severely cut out.

Wow! Oregon, you never fail to disappoint. Oregonians ( for those of you not from this state) believe that save from Crater Lake , only the parts north of Eugene are of value. Southern Oregon is amazing . With towns like Ashland, Jacksonville ( 1 of 8 towns in the USA where the entire town is historic, ) Brookings ( the banana belt Of Oregon & best costal weather) & I could go on much longer. But the Multnomah area is SO biased they completely disregard these little gems. I guess it’s a good thing, it does keep them out of that portion of this beautiful state. Oh, did I mention that the people are way more friendly & real to boot?!

I was born and raised in Bend, Oregon. I love it, but boy has it changed. Population 12,000 when I was born in '79 with three stop lights and now its well over 100,000 when you include just outside the city limits. Sadly many of the people who moved in are not like the native Bend people, but some are great. It is pretty crowded which stinks because you know how it used to be. The real estate prices have also been driven up immensely and the lot sizes have shrunk in most new neighborhoods to where you are 5-10 feet from your neighbor. The city planners often plan for how things are right now instead of for the growth which can be irritating. Back when it was a mill town my husbands family used to call Bend: poverty with a view. Its a different place now...

@@bartmflewis You are right that 16,000 was the population at some point in the 80s. I went to a church near the hospital and there was nothing beyond it to the east back then. The thing that is most sad is that regular people are priced right out of the real estate market. It's not quite like where I live now in Hawaii, but its getting close. We were thinking of leaving Hawaii to move to Bend so we could buy a house and live more like we'd like to, but now that is out...it's too expensive on our teachers' salaries. I love going back to visit though every 6-12 months. Also the place I have to go each time we go back is the Metolius as Camp Sherman is my favorite place to get away and camp or just walk around. So beautiful...A truly special place. I was so worried this year when the fires got close to it. Thank goodness it didn't burn!
