- I played this game enough to have a decent start to finish run. I plan on uploading the Japanese language version since there are differences in the script and maybe anyone who is fluent in Japanese/is Japanese would appreciate that.

1:41:11 - Greetings. However you may have wandered in here, this is the most important thing you'll see in this video. Thanks.
I use to do this all the time when I played but sence my parents lost my 3ds I can play this game anymore, it makes me sad.

LOL
Ayee XD
damn man, i tought i was the only one that did that to kill time lmao
"From the moment I held her in my arms, my Blaster Rifle began to emit this brilliant light. The light was getting bigger and bigger, and totally enveloped us." I'm sure there is no other way that can be interpreted...
There is absolutely no other way for that to be interpreted.
@@ArctheLadder If you say so... This game feels like a mix of Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission and Sigma Star Saga. A nice retro 2D platformer that is becoming rarer these days. Nice playthrough, and a great remake of an old classic.
@@HavocPrime8989 I should be specific that I meant there's no other way to see that than as a phallic reference lol.
@@HavocPrime8989 Also, if it seems like I misinterpreted what you said, I probably did. I have been suffering from Sleep Apnea for the past 5 or so years.
@@ArctheLadder It's all good. I deal with insomnia so I can relate. And tone can get lost with typed language. No harm, no foul.
Just to clarify axcording to inticreates. The reason jason kept calling fred a mysterious creature is due to the frogs and toads having been completely extinc.
So it had nothing to do with this “frog” having mysterious gold rings on its legs and TAIL?
Anime is wild isn’t it? Like you make a visual observation but you need the creator to reassure you with some dumb shit lol
There's an optional conversation in bmz 1 where Jason notes he believes it's part of an extinct species
@isauldron4337 believe me in my playthrough where I show a lot of optional dialogue all I ever hear about is people complaining about the optional dialogue lmfao
I like when you fire shots to the rythmn of the music. It took me a while to notice but made me smile going back and seeing it happening before!
It's so good!
@@ArctheLadder I started feeling wistful listening to the music. It reminded me of my younger gaming days. 😊
Just now realizing that Jason and Fred's names were based on the two scary movie monsters, Jason and freddy Kruger.
Oh, i see.
Way before that. Try harder....
Too bad they didn’t call the vehicle Michael lol
The story is still just hilarious
"This Frog Creature I was studying escaped and jumped into a weird hole. Imma follow it not knowing whats down there. Hm there seems to be a big battletank down here. This will no doubt be useful in retrieving that small creature!"
Though I did like Blaster Master as a kid, its one of those stories that made perfect sense back then but now makes me go "Say what? Hm, nevermind just blast things."
It's definitely the part of merging both versions of the game as, in the narrative, "happening" that makes me laugh.
Sometimes a zany off the wall story is good fun. It is cool that they remade this game.
I like it. Never got around to the DLC characters. I attempted the hard mode DLC but man, no thanks lol.
There is a prequel to this game on the Nintendo Wii that the storyline ties into Blaster Master Zero and sort of explains how the Sophia 3 even got to planet earth and why it was there and why that bad guy or entity is on earth too.
That's the eropean and american story, and i agree it sucks. The original japanes version calles Metafight had a better story. But still, one of the best games on the Nes:)
Jason Is At It Again!
It's Mutant Blasting Time In SUNSOFT'S BLASTER MASTER ZERO!
On Nintendo Switch!
The most surreal part to me regarding this game is how they decided to keep the whole plot about Jason losing a frog named Fred, yet somehow integrating it into a vastly more epic plot (with parts lifted from the original Japanese title even) in a way that works... while still being hilarious in hindsight, this is amazing 🤣
I’ve seen a handful of polarized comments recently. Not a whole bunch, but before I read this comment there were like one or two basically saying it’s awful lol. I like this game the most of the trilogy, so I do agree it’s just weird how it works.
They didn't just keep that
They integrated parts of the words of power novelization and the ending of blaster Master Overdrive
@@isauldron4337 ooh, didn't know that! That's even cooler!
I never knew this existed and stumbled on it tonight. I played the original back in the 80s growing up, then the ROM of it, and now I NEED to play this! Loved hearing you shoot with the music beats too, LOL, I thought only I did stuff like that while playing games, LOL
Nah you’re still the only loser @OnlyRetroGames
I just don't get why the main character is anime now.
@@avalonjustinPerhaps even originally it was a Japanese anime in Japan. Just when the original was ported to the US on the NES in the late 80s, Americans probably didnt realize this aspect due to the generic cutscene graphics on the NES. And they corrected it with the newer remakes. That's my theory on this though.
@@LagunaShirogane Mind how this comes off as "ACTUALLAY." If you were curious or interested, Blaster Master has a completely different plot in Japanese. It's called "Cho Wakusei Senki Metafight"(wiki info her, you can read about this online and it's somewhat well documented for how infamous or niche a topic it is), there's a lot of wiki information that you can sucked into... basically, when Japanese companies like Sunsoft were porting games over, they would consider the foreign audience and whether something seemed too culturally Japanese. So the game isn't necessarily an adaptation of an actual anime, but when trying to translate these games into English, a game could be deemed to strange to the audience and so they'd make a completely different story.
Mutants and radiation seem pretty American in hindsight, I guess.
Metafight has a lot of similarities to a show by Go Nagai called "X-Bomber." The X-Bomber is this spaceship that even has a little tank attachment, much like the Metal Attacker/tank thing from Metafight/Blaster Master.
@@ArctheLadder I made my statement as i didnt know this info. But it also doesnt surprise me. I mean, look at Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam anime that came out in the 80s as the 2nd sequel anime series to the original Gundam anime. They never made an English dub for it due to similar reasons you stated about Blaster Master or another. Anime didnt truly take off in the US until the 1990s and even more so in the late 90s and 2000s thanks to Cartoon Network's Toonami block putting anime on the map. Before then, all Americans had for Japanese exposure was quite limited to certain products such as video game consoles such as the NES or Japanese import cars and other things. That and the Arcade Crash of the early 80s didnt help matters either (Nintendo brought that industry back from near extinction in 1985 with the NES/Famicom console). So I get what you mean with this.
My favorite was the dialogue for firing the acceleration blast, qnd the rock coming in and just ruining the whole thing.
If by "ruined" you mean "immensely improved", sure!
What really makes this nostalgic is the old trademark sound effects Sunsoft used for the Ninetendo back in the day.
Edit: A few of the enemies are recycled too for other nes games later on (Ex: Journey to SILUS)

"Oh wait, nevermind."
I just got this game and all the DLC characters today on my 3DS.
It'll be a good 'un.
Very good run. Brings back memories of the first blaster master. But then they took it to another level. Fantastic job and love the shooting of weapons to the music. lol
I know right😁?
Somehow this Orgin story makes even less sense, but it's graphic design and game🎮 play are top notch. (The story even gained some depth to it, as the series progresses)
The story looks like a mix between the original Japanese and USA versions. I like it.
Me too, I really like how they handled it.
I too also like it. What was the japanese version purely though? I never knew the storyline they had or was it pretty similar.
It reminded me most of an old series of novels called Worlds of Power, that basically novelized a bunch of NES games. This one was one of them.
Well, I mean, the Western intro played at the start, but before the Secret Final Boss against Invem Sophia, the JP intro plays
They did a great job taking it up a notch. I think the mutant bosses should have had some chemical or radioactive mass in them that powered Sophia and brought features back up online rather than guarding an upgrade which didn't make much sense. That's nitpicking though. Love this game.
This looks like so much more fun than the NES game I played as a kid!
the NES version aged poorly imo (control-wise only). I mean you can only do either strafe, or throw grenade. "why not both" is invalid.
still, I love how this game respects the NES version, and even retcon the Famicom and NES version together in 3rd entry. That's Metal as f-
Yeah, it looks way more advanced for sure, I never beat master blaster as a kid 😢
I'm impressed by the way this NEW series, kept with the theme of the original 🐸hoping Blaster.
I ain't even mad that they changed how "the frog grew in size" before falling/going down a hole. 👏😎
Gotta love that Sunsoft Bass!
Too right!
I thought it was not made by sunsoft?
I know its just a game but the story's introduction is so random. He's a roboticist but he's also a scientist, he finds a weird frog then he studies it, so he's a biologist too? Then he becomes a tank pilot, then he dons a battle suit and now he's a capable with guns too? Wtf
Doesn't matter if it's a game if you're interpreting it. Sometimes stupid shit can illicit a response, and sometimes that's just being exasperated at how much of a silly fantasy it is. Really, if that's so bad, we could just ask Game Theory to take the piss about the plot/narrative and not even bother mentioning this stuff lmfao.
Seriously though, there's a few things here. One is that the narrative of the game is just generic science fantasy, so you get this super hero character who's characterization in exposition is meaningless. The guy is a soldier that shoots guns and can just pilot a machine, none of the science and stuff has much bearing on it. Secondly, probably what will make this make more sense, this game is based on a game called "Chou Wakusei Senki: Metafight." Planetary War Chronicle: Metafight. The plot of that game is about a super experimental vehicle, the Metal Attacker, being commandeered by a soldier named "Kane Gardner." Kane teams up with the creator of the tank, co-pilot Jennifer (Gardner, lol), to fight the evil space emperor "GOEZ." Nothing is mentioned of mutants, it doesn't take place on Earth.
The original adaptation of this, the Nintendo Entertainment System title: Blaster Master, wipes that premise for just having a story about a boy with nuclear waste in his backyard that has to chase a frog then finds the underground conspiracy theory premise of creatures that live under the surface of the planet. Blaster Master Zero is an attempt to fuse both of these stories together, and what you get is largely nonsensical. Like, Earth is the setting and is almost beat for beat a remake of the original game, but when you start thinking about how in order for the events of "Metafight" to have occurred concurrently with Blaster Master, suddenly it just gets really fucking stupid and you realize that it's just an adaptation.
There's no space rebellion and we're back at square one which is uh... Biologist/Roboticist/Foot Soldier/Tank Pilot Jason Frudnick...
I preferred the original Metafight story because it doesn't require you to do mental contortions lol. It's also essentially a video game version of shows like X-Bomber:
czcams.com/video/66LldwbLl0w/video.html&
Check it ouuuuut-- or don't. Either way, yeah, I like the game but I think I'm being extremely generous when I don't mention how often the premise of the game just makes me roll my eyes.
Well in one of his dialouge with eve he admits hes not really a biologist but he will try to study fred
@@ArctheLadderto be fair Zero 2 and 3 explain it a bit more
Metafight still happened and the mutant lord clone came to Earth in the comet
R.I.P Sophia III, your sacrifice was not in vain.
Also:
I like to think that the 3 in Sophia's name is actually referring to what rank of strength she is, so when the parents heard that the mutant core was there, all stops were pulled and the strongest Sophia was sent in.
Powerful warrior - underrated musician. :D
One of the tracks sounds like it's one of the one's in Star Wars NES.

I was expecting the old "Press Start" trick from the original Blaster Master.
I'm pretty sure that was more of an unintended exploit.
Few people talk about this, but what is unique about the original NES version is pressing start will change Jason's death animation into funky white lines in the tank (not overhead) sections. The cause of this (from my experience in romhacking) is that a different object is loaded in place of the cartwheel animation. Pressing start during his death animation in Blaster Master Zero does nothing because of a coding error in the original--oh, and the pause trick for the bosses is also not a thing. In fact, both are unique to the original. If a ceiling turret is used in Area 2, for instance, the turret resembles a concrete sculpture of Jason's head!
Why does this remind me alot like MegaMan? I love it, I'm currently on level 6 and not in no hurry to beat it. Want to savour the experience and relive my good ole Blaster Master days. LOL
Bobby8451 the same people that made this game made megaman 9 & 10 along with mighty gunvolt burst

I always thought that in the original NES the characters suit in the overhead stages looked like Hello Kitty.
It's funny cause your partner has a bunch of feline visual motifs. Cat boots and stuff.
this game looks fun. the tank in the original ... I call it 'Master Blaster' lol... was really revolutionary on the NES.
i remember the original NES game, but i didnt know this existed.
Me too dont know and so awesome
And last year, 2019, Blaster Master Zero 2 was released.
Ohhh so the NES was just confusing. The story isnt about a pet frog that mutated from a radioactive barrel near this cave house and the frog escapes to his medieval knight suit to stop this guy.
Nothing about the actual NES version has changed, if you play it right now it's gonna open up with a frog running away like it always has. Blaster Master Zero has a plot inspired by that game, albeit while chimera-ing it to the Japanese plot of Metafight.
It feels weird to watch this after playing the sequel
The views on the vid shooting up kind of tells me that's what people be doing lol. I prefer the original after playing the sequel!
I feel like this would’ve been the arcade version had this existed way back then.
I mean it's a remake of the NES/Famicom game so... it did exist way back when. There was actually a version of it that ran the game in arcades, but it had a timer to make up for the fact it wasn't necessarily designed to consistently take money from the player.
FlawedRed No, I meant if this version existed back then first lol. I remember the original version quite vividly actually. I never played the arcade timed version, but I remember something similar done with SMB3. Lost a TON of quarters on that lol. I’m simply referring to how back then arcade versions (usually the original version) of games tended to be superior in content, graphics and sound. Then, when they made the console versions they had to cut out a lot because consoles of the time simply couldn’t handle everything the original had. Some examples that come to mind include Altered Beast, Quartet, Legend of Kage and Shinobi.
Really the point is more that there was an arcade version way back when. But it's strange to fantasize about a version of this game that wants to also take my lunch money again, cause fuck that lol.
I know console versions cut lots of stuff, sometimes they'd get creative and make up for that. SNES SF2 is still my favorite version cause Ryu uppercuts a waterfall.
I played the original on NES back when i was a toddler and my mom used to play the original as i watched her play this game along with original Ninja Gaiden and Magic of Scheherazade on the NES. So many memories....Im gonna have to get this game on my PS4. Magic of Scheherazade should be next on the list to be remade on newer consoles. This is just great!
Its like a combination of a few old school NES games of the time such as Metroid, Galaga, and a few others that I cant name at the top of my head. They need to make games more like this. Not everything has to be like CoD or Overwatch, or games that have ginormous graphics and gameplay. It can be just simple and easy and still enjoyable. Nintendo is still king when it comes to these types of games and part of why they're still battling on their own two feet against Sony and Microsoft in the Console Wars and they've been the longest standing contender in this war.

Not entirely. The plot has been reworked and it does have a extra level that was not in the original.
If you get the cutscene shown at 3:14:50, you have everything needed to unlock the real ending and all the other goodies, including Unlimited, Destroyer, and Boss Blaster modes.
Wasn't Eve's parents or Dad the Hero and Original Pilot of the Sophia 3 in the Prequel to the Remake of Blaster Master / Blaster Master ZERO?
ZeroHyperGaming the game uses the plot of the US Blaster Master but is a sequel to the Japanese story.
Plot wise, Eve is the daughter of the protagonists of the game that Blaster Master is a rewrite of, Cho Wakusei Senki Metafight. That’d be Kane and Jennifer Gardner.
This means it other a sequel to the original Japanese game or the reference to Kain Gardiner was easter egg.
Well I played Zero 3...this is still the best Blaster Master game.
I was thinking of buying it but that was my fear. What was so bad?
Terrible and confusing design, ridiculous difficulty and a story I stopped caring about a long time ago. It has this alternate space gimmick that overcomplicated things, making looking for items more of a pain than ever. For me, the game was NOT fun to get through. But some people liked it. Other folks say it's the best. i dunno Your experience may differ from mine. I prefer the simpler, less disjointed metroidvania design of the original.
@@therealseanw.stewart2071 I didn't like Zero 2 over Zero 1. The more they departed from that style, the more gimmicky it all felt. Zero 1 has brevity I think a lot of folks don't appreciate enough while propping up Zero 2 or probably Zero 3.
I recall reading the Worlds of Power novelization of the original Blaster Master when I was in about 2nd or 3rd grade, and how it inspired me to play the original game. So glad to see they made Eve canon!
Good play thru. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Looking at the story of this game, it feels like they took inspiration from the Worlds of Power: Blaster Master book back in the 90s.
Yeah, it’s a pastiche of Space-War Chronicle/Records: Metafight and the Blaster Master localization/adaptation. Just a mix of all sorts of related media.

Would you want to see something played through with little editing, or would it be fine to you to see the various sections of the game sort of stitched together with editing.
Honestly, it may not be necessary for me to do since I think there are a few playthroughs of the game up already. But I never do commentary, so I'd need someone to basically tell me "There's no good longplay or playthrough online" for me to commit to a playthrough of BMZ2 where I essentially try to capture the Normal Ending then True Ending into one video.
