This is the one Billy Joel album that gets sweeter with time. It's like an old wine. The Bridge is definitely alongside some of best of Billy's albums in my opinion.
It was the time to remember, 'Cause it will not last forever. The music will though.
I can't say this is my favorite album, but I think it's highly under rated & often overlooked.
Lol his Cyndi Lauper impression always cracks me up. I watched the documentary "Building the Bridge" and he did an impersonation. I was just dying laughing. This is such a great album, it has such great songs. I love how he said if he saw an album with him on the cover of it he wouldn't buy it, haha!
He sounds almost Marxist there. Groucho that is, not Karl.
I remember hearing him say he doesn’t like this album too much. He said the record company pressured him into writing a new album. I personally love this album, especially the song code of silence.
This is the Time, A Matter of Trust, Modern Woman, Baby Grand, Big Man on Mulberry Street, and Code of Silence...this is one underrated album. This is up there with 52nd St, An Innocent Man, Turnstiles and The Stranger as his best albums.
I never realised how Billy saw 'Temptation'. I has he same view of it as everyone else.
That's an easy mistake to make. If you look at the lyrics of "Temptation," you'll see that it could definitely be interpreted as a man singing about his desire to be with his woman and not his daughter. Especially the lines about "losing my touch" and "I lose my composure, I could use some restraint. I never claimed to be a hero, and I never said I was a saint."
His most underrated album, and underrated even by him. The emotion on this album is very raw and real…becoming a parent changes you forever, and definitely changed him too. This Is The Time still gives me goosebumps. A Matter Of Trust still rocks. He still plays several songs from this album live, and they hold up really well. I’d LOVE to see Steve Winwood (who is one of his absolute heroes) show up at a Garden gig, and the two of them jam on Getting Closer, could you even IMAGINE? 🔥
I'm really loving all these vids where Billy talks about his old albums. Especially "The Bridge". Great album with some Terrific songs.

There are some pretty interesting songs on "The Bridge"; "Running On Ice" (which the Police could've done), "This Is The Time", "A Matter Of Trust", "Baby Grand", and "Big Man On Mulberry Street" which gives you this gritty New York City groove. I consider that song to be Billy's 80's version of his classic "New York State Of Mind". I was just a little baby when this album was first released.
"Running On Ice" is one of may favorite songs on the album. Maybe it's because of The Police influence. The Police are one of my all time favorite bands.
Billy himself also is a fan of both the Police and Sting. Maybe that's why he wrote that song in the style of the Police. Some Police songs I like better than others, my personal FAV is "Synchronicity I".
Patrick Langan If I had to pick my personal fave Police song right now, I'd say "Driven to Tears."
My personal fav is Synchronicity 2
Rocky, Synchronicity 2 is a magnificent piece of music, from the most brilliant album of the 80s

Def an underrated Billy album. I think the only song on here that I was always 'meh' on was 'Getting Closer'. Rest of the songs are great.
I love this album and the song code of silence made me think that it was about a guy living in the closet.
An 'US' Magazine article from May 1985 roasted and excoriated the whole rock video genre, singling out Billy's silly "Keeping The Faith" video for particular abuse. The following year, a Rolling Stone article about the upcoming release of "The Bridge" mentioned the fact that there'd be no videos made for any single from the album. Coincidence?

“Baby Grand” is easily the best track on this album. I like “This is the Time” and have personal affection for “A Matter of Trust,” but the only other song I like, here, is “Temptation.” The rest are forgettable and feel like filler, to me. I do love that album cover, though.
