Streetlife Serenader ... I have to close my eyes when I listen to this one.. I can feel it when I close my eyes....
My favorite album...but Scenes from an Italian Restaurant is my favorite song.
My brother plays on this album - the pedal steel and the banjo. THAT'S MY CHAIR ON THE BACK COVER!! Streetlife Serender is my favorite Billy Joel song. He doesn't play it live very often - and I said that to him once after a Vegas show. I hope he plays more of these songs. Simply excellent.
Now that's cool
Nohj Savart! Is that you? It's me Mot Natsnud.
Actually Streetlife Serenade was released in 1974. A great album. Even the instrumentals
Los Angelenos! 😊💃🎼💖💛💚
This album, in my view, is underrated. The title song is good and the closing one, I like even more. It might not have been too ambitious, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
This album is better than he gives it credit for, I swear. Just because he threw it together quickly doesnt mean it cant be great. Sad that he didn't talk about Roberta, it's a great track and could be interpreted 100 ways. Streetlife Serenader and Los Angelenos AND the great suburban showdown are all excellent.
Yeah he really knocks this album. The Great Suburban showdown is a beautiful song too
Always loved “Great Suburban Showdown”. Underrated album all round.
My favorite Billy Joel album!
Souvenier is poignant and just heartwrenching. Beautiful
This is my favorite Joel album. The mood of the album is perfect to me. I have an awful memory; most of my life is a hazy blur. But this album is an auditory photo album of my early life. I can't recall alot of names, details, etc., but I can feel what it was like to be younger me from hearing these songs, as they had such an impact on me at the time.
still the best Billy Joel album. every track is a knockout
I love Streetlife Serenade. Billy's first three albums are like a trilogy to me. Piano Man, he seems to be traveling to the west from NY (leaving home). Streetlife he's out west, Turnstiles, he's coming home again..! Wonderful songs and energy. Turnstiles is my favorite but the other two are close. It feels like real life experience, not just trying to write a hit song. Billy's a great song writer. His music helped me a lot in my teen years in the 1970's. I left home and went west, only to come back home to the east several years later... great experience. Thanks Billy!
My brother played on this album and this tour. That's MY chair on the back cover. I wish he played more of these songs in concert today.
The cover art for Streetlife Serenade is fantastic, as is the title track.
I really like this album. In a way, I think it was a good thing Billy Joel didn’t have a lot of content to release at the time. If he had, he may not have ever released root beer rag, which I find quite enjoyable to listen to.
Streetlife serenade is actually a really good album despite its obscurity from the charts.
I really like this album. It's considered one of Billy's "weaker" albums, but it's one of my favorites!
I love "The Entertainer". It's one of my favourite songs of Billy's. It was a privilege when he sang it live at a concert of his I attended in 2006.
Great album!!
THAT"S MY CHAIR!!!!
My brother played in the band and used it onstage.
love root beer rag to death
"Entertainer" is one of my all time favorites!
Best members of Billy Joel band !!
I love the instrumentals. Some of the best songs in my opinion. Would happily take an album of new ones. But, probably in the minority opinion.
Possibly his greatest album of piano based compositions. Big time Spenders is IMHO his most authentically performed blues-gospel number. Felt he showed a weaker understanding of stylistic norms in his piano playing on Everybody Has a Dream, River of Dreams, 2000 Years etc.
This is an album that is really come to grow on me this is kind of like the underdog in the Billy Joel discography.
When you have between piano Man and turn styles it's just a soild album it's a good harder rocking style album and it's got some great quality on it lots of good good songs that once you get into it you really get into this album.
I know between Cold spring harbor into this album he was living in California hadn't gone back to New York at the time.
But Bill you really should give more consideration to this album this is something to be proud of in your catalog.
Fortunately he got the year wrong it was 74 not 75 LOL
I grew to get tired of Billy Joel's later music but I'll listen to anything from "Cold Spring Harbor" to "An Innocent Man" (with the exception of "The Nylon Curtain").
Joel, Springsteen and Mellencamp all made changes to their music at roughly the same time, but I don't think those changes were for the better.
Best Song on the Album: Souvenir
Runner-Up: Los Angelenos
I would pay gold to hear Streetlife Serenader again in live.... but nothing happens
I think it was a good album anyway.
I Am The Entertainer
and I know just where I stand
another serenader in another long hair band.
Today I am your champion
I may have won your hearts
But I know the game, you'll forget my name
And I won't be here in another year
If I don't stay on the charts.

Beautiful and profound description.
what does he say at the end? "makes for a look though"? what does it mean?
He's talking about his "look" in the picture on the back of the album cover where he's sitting in a chair after he's had his wisdom teeth pulled out. Just his way of trying to be funny about it.
It means that although it wasnt optimum, planned or wanted, he still used the situation to some kind of advantage.
The best song on that album is THE GREAT SUBURBAN SHOWDOWN… one of the best ballads ever written. And nobody really pays attention.
Come on billy, it’s 1974. How do you not know that? LOL.
1974 not 1975 but that's old age for Ya.
Play this at 0.25 speed, it's hilarious. Billy sounds like he's on thorazine.
