Y'know, I never really thought about it, but when you have this song over it all...that bolt of lightning sounds like Ymir screaming. Two thousand years of imprisonment, turned into fury.
Beautifully worded, liked
I think this captures the moment of the manga better. Hisayama ended the original chapter on the shot at 3:20 of the skull of Eren's new titan above Gabby. The moment is essentially the culmination of Eren's entire character arc and his ultimate moment of triumph in the series (I'd argue this is the best written moment in the whole manga, nothing feels as impactful as the rumbling.)
Isayama allows the reader to enjoy Eren really defeating Zeke simply because he chose Ymir's humanity, wheras Zeke saw her as a Slave.
He doesn't really allow you to absorb the full impact of how horrible the Rumbling is till the next chapter where you see the shot of Eren's face at the end.
honestly that is why i ended the scene with a abrupt cut to silence! you could put in the horror atmosphere and music immediately after, which in turn whiplashes the audience around

There’s no way people listen and watch this and think the song is cheery or hype. It’s a sad and empathetic song. The somber tone and soft buildup that plays as Eren breaks free of his chains and runs towards Ymir (the biggest victim in the AOT universe). Then it stops, Eren speaks and begins to show he cares. Giving hope to Ymir that there is someone out there that cares about her and that she doesn’t have to forsake her life for others. This moment represents that Eren is the freedom that Ymir has always yearned for and never knew until it finally hits her through a tear showing her humanity.
she is NO GOD, NO SLAVE, she is a HUMAN BEING.
I mean that’s from her perspective but imo doesn’t fit ymir being free she will be free once everything is over Imo it’ll fit with the final chapter just not this , foot steps of doom shows that the end of the world has just started, millions are going to be part of genocide and there’s nothing you can do to stop it
Yea but the song literally used in the league cinematic shows the character being saved. It is obviously somber in the beginning, the pay off is the overcoming. It’s sad, but with the huge drop it is what makes the song uplifting. Maybe aspects of bittersweetness, but it’s certainly hype as well if you pair it with the reveal of reiner and bertoldt’s transformation
Yeah we all watched the same thing you did. You're not telling anyone anything new
@@luisgomez8635 you must be so fun at parties.
Emotional and sympathetic... till they bust out light and shadow by last guardian while founding titan eren transforms having that played in the background!
Thoughts on this scene and usage of ost in general:
this exercise in editing really let me appreciate the importance of music in conveying the intent and purpose of the characters.
When I read the manga, my mind put a large emphasis on the fleeting relationship between eren and ymir, and my view was that eren approached ymir primarily with a sense of empathy for her plight as a slave of fritz. in that moment, the focus was on ymir's freedom, not really the rumbling. thus, i felt that the song showcased eren and ymir's empathy (i am doing this for freedom), and not their rage (i am doing this to kill my enemies).
in contrast, the tv version focuses more on eren's rage. there is a certain amount of malevolance in the TV version due to the lack of music and the grim tone of the music when it eventually starts playing. Of course, this hits harder on the apocalyptic aspect, but i feel that it strips away the emotional momentun of the scene which was the relationship between eren and ymir (in my view). at the same time, the apocalyptic aspect of the rumbling could come later; after the commercial break we get a perspective of the sheer sense of destruction wrought by eren.
Well said man. Eren being the first person to actually recognize Ymir's plight after two thousand years of being used by others hit me so hard when I first read it.
I liked the music and atmosphere when Eren transformed in the anime, but I feel like it really brought down the impact of that moment and made it seem like he was still just using her like everyone else. I don't know, it just felt underwhelming, especially in comparison to your edit here, thanks for making this.
the tonal whiplash of a cheery ost and an apocalyptic scene gives me an end of eva vibe - definitely feel like something similar could be done for aot, but i highly doubt it
@@mcbaws21 Where in the world is this a cheery ost? It literally sounds like a sad song??
you deserve so much more credit than you get, every single edit you make is good enough to be considered a masterpiece
i did an amazing version of this but youtube banned it if u want i can share at least the name of the song which also belongs to hiroyuki sawano
Fuck the ending, this is the true Eren, this is the true Ymir, they both desire Freedom, they are not Slaves, this is their breaking down their chains and saying they had enough.
Exactly mikasa is nowhere near important enough to be the answer to everything
Completely agree.
pretty much everyone agrees that AoT peaked here.
Even coming back to this scene hits hard.
When I read it for the first time in the manga (122) it felt like a masterpiece. It will always be my favourite scene in all anime history.
LMFAO
Tell me, if the Eren in the ending isn’t the ’true Eren’, why do they desire freedom?
Because both of them are enslaved by something. And both of them desire freedom from that enslavement. That is the whole point of this scene.
You’re right. This is the moment when they tried breaking down their chains. That is literally what happened here. And that’s not changed by the ending.
This is when Ymir first tries to rebel against her enslaved existence. After this moment, she used the Paths to go back in time and set up the events that lead to Mikasa’s choice, where she chooses of her own free will to kill Eren, thereby proving to her that she could rebel against the toxic love that enslaved her, creating a closed loop. That’s how she succeeds in breaking her chains.
Meanwhile, this is Eren’s final rebellion. This is the moment when Eren once again denies that he is enslaved by his own desire for freedom. This is when Eren tries to wipe out the entire world, even though he knows that Mikasa will kill him at 80%. Here, he chooses to deny the truth of his beloved ’freedom’ one last time, even though he knows he’ll fail. Because even that rebellion was simply one more link in the chains that enslave him to his desire to be free. Therefore, he fails to break his chains, whilst Ymir succeeds. That’s the whole point.
There is nothing different about Eren in this scene and Eren in the ending. The only difference is that the Eren in the ending openly displays his sorrow over the truth of his enslaved existence, instead of trying to angrily deny it. You just didn’t like it because Eren was human in that moment, rather than a merciless chad that slept with Historia.
Dude. You can quit it. The ending is good. That’s not just an opinion. That’s an objective fact. Opinion polls, rating websites and the most relevant anime reviewers on the Internet show that at least 90% of the fandom likes the ending. In entertainment, when you have that high amount of people liking an ending, then that means that that’s not just a good ending. Most would call that a perfect ending.
“It was Mikasa all along”
If you see this scene it's obvious that Eren is talking about himself but no, Isayama decided it was Mikasa xD
@@Lumigle It's not "Isayama" who decided it was Mikasa. It's Eren who thinks Mikasa was the most important piece. That is Eren's POV, not the narrator's.
@@Net_Flux Isayama is the author, he decides everything and Eren freed Ymir right there. There was no real reason for Mikasa being essential at the end
@@Lumigle A lot of things like Ymir still building titans wouldn't make sense if Ymir was "freed right there".
@@Net_Flux A lot of things make 0 sense at the end. For example:
- Annie's return was bullshit, straight up from a sitcom.
- The jaegerists were unable to sink the boats or the airplane (only vehicles that let the alliance stop Eren), but they waste 50 thunderspears on Pieck and miss every one. xD
- The alliance surviving a battle against THOUSANDS of intelligent titans (and this titans appear without any real reson or rule that is in this world too because they are empty shells).
- When Armin and Zeke were talking in paths, a random leaf appears in from of them. Armin sees a leaf and Zeke sees a baseball. Thanks to this random shit, for whatever reason appear all the past inheritors of the past titans (Kruguer, Bert...) and Armin convinces Zeke to leave paths and gets killed because potato.
- Reiner can stop the Hallucigenia itself, and is maybe 10 times or more bigger than him.
And more random shit that happens
I can’t thank you enough for this. This is exactly in line with what myself and many of those who read this scene years ago felt. That sense of liberation as Eren shows Ymir the first bit of kindness in 2,000 years. That she is neither slave, nor God, but a human being.
The anime focuses on the horror of the Rumbling itself, which I think is a waste of one of my favorite moments from this story. But I guess MAPPA’s take is more in line with Isayama’s vision, so I’ll have to settle for your edit(s).

It was more than 2000 years cause time really don't exist in that space it's probably way more than that cause they said the Titan powers been passed down so for ever transformation for 2000 Ymir had to make the Titan by hand so let's say someone takes Titan form 10 times on average per year it's way more than that but let's say 10 now there is 9 Titan forms so that's 90 transformation per year that multiplied by 2000 years is 180000 years that's the bare minimum and we didn't add ymirs time to make the Titan form with the size I'm pretty sure a short girl like her takes atleast 2 weeks minimum to make one Titan so 180000*2 weeks = 360000 weeks which is 7500 years which is relatively short 🤔 again this is bare minimum time

You can actually pinpoint the moment AoT was good the last time: this moment right here
Erens pov also. Rest of the rumbling arc was shit tho
Idk how you do it but the roar you use for Eren when he's transforming sounds so powerful it's honestly perfect.
I've been replaying this for the past 30 minutes and I still can't get over it, this is amazing. 💀
This song should’ve been used on Attack on titan, it fits perfectly of the world
So this... is the power... of having a competent director
If I think of the Rumbling as a way for Eren to bring peace to the world, then I'd say it wasn't worth it.
But if I think of the Rumbling as a catharsis for Ymir for being humanity's greatest slave for 2000 years, then I'd say it was worth it.
80% is a LOT of innocents who wouldn't even know who Ymir is, but 2000 years is also a heck of a long time to spend in a sand castle hell.
that's how I see it
damn the world for daming you case
This just hits different!
Hits like it did in the manga!
This music choice perfectly embodies the mood I felt when reading the manga, this is supposed to be a moment of catharsis for Eren and Ymir, this moment is literally what everything in the story has been leading up to: the destruction of the walls both literal and metaphorical that kept them trapped in a birdcage, the end of Fritz's world, the end of the king's binding on the Eldians, the result of 2000 years.
2:59 that parallels Reiner n Bertold betrayal scene really well
I really did cry to this.
It was that powerful.
This is just… art. Your editing made this scene perfect, and I already thought it was originally.
I feel like it would be more make sense and emotional if eren's intention of freeing ymir was because he wanted to end the never-ending slavery rather than love to the first king fritz
both are the same thing for Ymir
That’s literally the point. Her love to King Fritz IS her enslavement. That’s why Eren was trying to free her.
This in of itself could be considered a perfect ending because it captures the hope for a better future for the Eldians who are being prosecuted and discriminated by the governments of the world, who plotted to wipe off the people of Paradis, as well as the horror and cruelty that must happen in order for the Eldians to survive and finally be free from their bondage.
A beautiful cautionary tale in a world of grey where no one is truly right or wrong but simply doing what they believe is right. It is exploration of the railroad scenario in where what would someone do in a scenario where they are cornered by the world and the sacrifice that must be made just to be able to live without fear or prosecution just for being born.
I'm not gonna watch the original episodes anymore, I'm just gonna wait for your edits to come out.
If i was trapped in this hell for 2000 Years i too would do anything to be free and i coudn't care less for the world.
Remember time works differently in path realm.
One second in real world equals to years in the path realm.
Just imagine how long Ymir has been trapped in there this whole time......
THANKS, beyond this world.
Wow! I'm impressed, expected some fan tiktok edit style shit, but you've edited it pretty good, even voices with echoes sounds really good here, good job. With this song I felt that it was only about Ymir, it adds something personal to her emotions, not like in original - "oh, Ymir finally opened her eyes, now Eren has the power to destroy the walls so he does and HYYYYPE, so let's forget about Ymir for the entire show", no, here it feels like "what could have been..." type of shit, and I liked that!
I like this better than the anime version because it focuses on the emotions between eren and ynir instead of just the horror of the rumbling. Good shit man
I fucking kneel, my knees are dust
Such a breathtaking edition with all the soundtrack and flashbacks!
"So long as my world last, until the end of__"
"IT ENDS NOW!"
I don't know why but him saying "It ends now" instead of "I'll end it" sounds a lot better
I absolutely love how he edited the way Eren shouts it, it's so powerful compared to his sudden "I'll end it" in the original. And the silence that follows it adds more emotional impact.
Wrong translate, the king said his reign will be forever, and “it ends now” will make sense
This really illustrates that while the world didn't deserve the Rumbling, Ymir certainly did. After all that suffering, all that self-denial, all those years serving and caring for everyone else, Ymir deserved someone who'd destroy the world for her and let her have her catharsis regardless of how immoral it truly is.
Wonderful, I always read this chapter with Call of Silence because I had the same reasoning as you. I thought it was more emotional than anything when Eren talked with Ymir after 2000 years. I don't think MAPPA did anything wrong is just that this was my favourite chapter because of the development of Eren and the bond between these two characters. Both seeking for freedom even after 2000 years. Thanks for giving this direction it's more close to what I thought when I read chapter 122.
Right? After I read this part in the manga, it really seemed as if the series, for the past 122 chapters, truly was leading up to this singular moment. The ultimate reflection of Eren's character as someone who desires freedom. This desire would bleed over to helping people like Historia and Ymir, who suffer and are shackled through no fault of their own, trapped in walls created by tyrants. It's important that Eren has this empathy, because only then he is able to sympathise with the Warriors, and yet come to an understanding that not every problem in the world can be fixed.
This matches the feelings that I had when I first read this part. The kindness that Eren extended to Ymir and the fact that for the first time in her life someone offered a choice and the flow of emotions that she felt and expressed for the first time in 2000 years. The flashbacks really made the edit so much more and the weight of Ymir being free is really felt. I still wish that they didn't do part of Eren and Ymir's talk as a background thing when Zeke started to call to Ymir but that was a choice of the studio. Also I am interested to see if there is a way to break the music between when Ymir is free and when the Rumbling actually starts.
