    Great video once more Kris. You're very informative. I got the XC90 D5 with all the bells and whistles. Really great car especially for long family journeys. One thing though in my humble opinion, this car is at it's best with the diesel engine. I think even if they increase the size of the fuel tank in the T8 it will just make the visits to the refueling station much more expensive comparing to the diesel car. Also in previous videos you mention the quietness of the T8, true but useful only when city driving, in highway driving the diesel is not that loud at cruising speeds. Also the brake is perfectly fine in the D5 and T6. Oh one last negative thing is that battery can be charged only up to 30% when running on fuel. For full charge you have to search for a plug.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  Před 6 lety

      You have may good points about the XC90 with a diesel, but you may not know that I've also had the XC90 with a diesel. My previous car was a 2016 XC90 D4, and though it got decent fuel economy and had a very good range - for me at least it was too noisy and loud for a luxury vehicle. The T8 sounds very nice and is super smooth in comparison. It was a trade off i decided was worth it when going for the T8, and yes sometimes I wish I had a longer range, but every other day I get to live with the super quiet and uber powerfull powertrain of the T8 :) You can without any problems charge the battery to 100% with the gas engine :)

    • @Exodos1234
      @Exodos1234 Před 6 lety +2

      Yes I know you have had the D4 and i watched all your videos before i get the D5, the only difference is that the D5 outputs more Hp that the D4 thus making the car more lively i would say. I thought you could only charge the battery up to 30% with gas engine as it was advertised in the beginning when T8 was introduced but since you say that it can be fully charged with the gas engine this is a big + for the T8.

  • @stefanlenz
    @stefanlenz Před 5 lety +1

    Just a small tip from me as a XC90 T8 Owner / Reviewer: The regen-braking goes only down to aprox. 10km/h. If you are under this speed the Motor/Generator will disengage and can not brake at all. You have to apply a bit more brake pressure to activate the mechanical brakes. If the car stops with a jerk, you haven'nt applied enough brake pressure and the emergency brake will stop the car, preventing you from crashing into the car in front of you.

  • @mikedulrich
    @mikedulrich Před 6 lety

    I have a T8 and love it. I never noticed any issue with the breaks so maybe my foot isn’t sensitive enough. I also do mostly city driving and rarely need more range than the battery provides so I can go weeks without refueling. Even on long trips I get 25-27 mpg freeway which I thought was good considering the cars size.

  • @TheKarlMust
    @TheKarlMust Před 6 lety +2

    Actually owning the XC60 from 2016 I can also vouch for the problem of braking - even though the brake pedal does not have the same problem as Xc90 but the start-stop system kicks in just before actually stopping so you get this kind of a jolt through the car just before stopping. One of my biggest problems with otherwise brilliant car.

    XC90 has a small engine not in proportion to it's size despite the Super & Turbo charger . A 6- cylinder potent engine would be appropriate to compete beautifully against big players, like BMW X5 and Audi Q7/Q8.
    T8 in return has very limited millage on electric mode (about 40KM). It would be more appealing if it hits 100+ KM per charge. Battery system can get really hot at high temp places, like the Gulf countries.
    You described the brakes paddle
    haptic feedback, which could freak out lots of potential buyers.
    Infotainment system is a top-notch with a weird stuttering
    interface, especially on startup it could take a distressing time to reach the option you want. A better processing system board/chip would solve the lag problem.
    Fuel consumption is comparable to a 6-cylinder counterpart, which doesn't seem economical nor competitive.

  • @volvo_kristian

    Thanks Kris for the shootout 👍 Totally agree with your best list. Exterior and interior design are just amazing. Combined with high quality materials, high luxury feeling and a very quiet cabin. There there's the superior ride comfort. Volvo's XC90 is magnificent in so many ways, and the Bowers & Wilkins stereo are a must for those who loves music. One of the best car stereos. Regards to the worse list. Yeah the petrol tank was one of the biggest reasons why I sold my T8. Way to small on long roadtrips. Especially in Swedish highway speed the petrol was pouring out. They should have done as Audi and offered a bigger tank as a extra option. 80-100 l would be awesome in the XC90.

    I have a T8 and disagree on two points. First I have no problem with the brakes and my previous car was an X5. Indeed the brake discs have longer longevity due to electrical regeneration and they help the consumption. Second the T8 is not primarily intended for long distances as the battery runs out after 40 km. Most people do not spend their time on motorways and this is perfect for them

  • @JLH0714

    I have a question, I hope this is the best place to reach you. We are nearing time to order our 2019 XC90 T8 through the OSD program, and I am trying to figure out all my options to make sure we get the car we want. I really like the skid plate kit you have and waited so long to get, but I need to know which option that is. You mention that it was a urban luxury kit, but they have 4 different urban luxury kits. They also have just a skid plate kit. The urban luxury kits look like they have larger side moldings under the doors and are color coordinated with your vehicle unless you get the rugged urban kit and then they are black. They have two urban luxury kits, one with a side scuff plate and one with a running board. Then they have two rugged luxury kits, one with side scuff plate and one with running board. Then they have just the skid plate kit which only includes skid plates for the front and rear.

    Personal preference is so different, I have T8 XC60 and I do have to disagree, not everything you say is real leather. But for the your biggest complaintment, you choose wrong model if you need to drive long trips. I do drive 1200-2000 km on a single tank, so no complainments there. And the visuals, well I prefer XC60 and chrome looks so cheap on every color except on black. But I agree Volvo is still the best combo overall, but you have to know wich model to get. For the braking, I got used to it quite soon, true it is difficult at first, but it is ok once get used to it.

    The braking you feel uncomfortable is because 70% of initial breaking will be controlled by regenerative brake from electric motors and actual brake pads will be engaged at the last 30% so you feel the transition of two methods uncomfortable.

    @Gabriellebre777 Před 6 lety +1

    If I was on the market for an SUV, there are a few things to consider: First, and this comment is all about the first one, Diesel or Gasoline engine? As every major brands try to improve their diesel engines and the prices of diesel itself still cheaper than gasoline and as I'm not a shareholder of Shell, why the hell would I chose gasoline? I would always stick with Diesel... So first question is answered: I would want a Diesel engine. Why? 1- Diesel is cheaper than Gasoline, Diesel engine consumption is low, diesel SUVs are cheaper to buy. I think that's how the market thinks, because we care about money. As I'm sure you all know, Volvo isn't making anymore diesel engines because they are going electric, or some sort of hybrid gasoline for the transition. Next generation Volvo S60 doesn't offer a diesel engine anymore. I want to know your opinion on this subject, is Volvo making the right choices by ditching diesel engines as the major competitors are increasing the range? Isn't the electric and plug-in/hybrid a restrict market? I mean if they can offer the same prices as a D4 XC90 it's fine, but we all know they will increase the prices... as for owners who have bought diesel engines, can Volvo assure that they will still be making spare parts for that diesel engines in order to maintain them? Is it possible that in a 5 years time, volvo's diesel engine will be completely useless as the brand can't supply parts anymore? This my biggest concern about Volvo, they are making bad decisions again and that for me it's a deal breaker. Predictability must be set, that's why Volkswagen never ditched the V6 diesel when they could go with an L6 with better results, it's all about trust, and for the time being I can't trust Volvo as they are making disposable diesel engines and my money isn't disposable. When I buy a car I intend to keep it for 10, 15 years.. Volvo's L4 diesel engine has 4 years and they are saying they won't make it anymore? I wish Volvo a lot success but not with my money, and it's a shame because when I see an xc90 or a s90 my heart just stops, they are beauties on wheels!

      Well if you have been following Kris, you will see when he has tested different cars over the past year or so, that he has had many books in the trunk/boot !! when he has been showing the carrying capacity of that particular car, so my guess is that he has a book business, and has to travel to many different stores selling his goods !!

      colinf1951 I doubt so, affording Two xc90 and one is the top of range, by selling books? Lol. A bit expensive to deliver the books himself in a xc90.... courier service should suffice. Did he ever say what he does for living? Hmmm... interesting.

    Guy's a fool to take a $5,000-$10,000 bath (in taxes, dealer profit/spread, etc) to avoid having to stop a few hours early on a road trip. You need a break after about 4 hours anyway. Fueling takes 7 min including getting off the highway. Work out the math on that and he's paying thousands/hour not to have to stop and fuel.

    $3,000 is steep for a sound system, however good. And sorry, but you do NOT get it back at resale. All the price guides show it being worth maybe $1,000 after 3 years. KBB.com says about $950. Ditzy housewives buying these don't know what B/W is.

      faten altawil first off, please link to what you are refering to. Second, cars have different power outputs in different markets. In the US the T6 engine (which is the fossil powerplant of the T8) it makes 316, in Europe it made 320 pre MY2018 and 310 post MY2019. Third, why won’t Volvo have info on MY18 in 2019? Is that a serious question?
