The rubbing technique is called âfrottageâ. đș I do it with Crayola crayons and then use a heat gun. The heat gun causes the crayon to sink into the paper.
I know! :) we did it in college. I also use it with crayons for a resist with fluid acrylics. it's just that "frottage " also has another definition that I figured I'd stay away from in the event that people looked it up.... :)
@@ElizabethStHilaire Bahahaha! đ
@@221b-Maker-Street right? LOL
You are so good about narrating every step and why. Super!
Oh thanks! Iâve been a workshop teacher for many years so Iâve been practicing!
I love doing grave rubbings! My late husband is from New Orleans & my father-in-law works at one of the biggest cemeteries. When I visit, he will take me to work and I will wander for hours doing frottage with crayons. I love it! Very meditative. I think of it as a way to honour the dead in my small way. Love this vid, very informative! I have the Neocolor II's, but haven't tried Scribble Sticks yet. I love Ranger's products. Thank you for the lesson! Blessings
I LOVE making grave rubbings!!! I bet in New Orleans they have LOTS of great stuff to rub. My pleasure~
I live in Portsmouth in the UK, and we did those rubbings on school trips too, and it was mostly on gratings and grills in church floors. I love all that you do. Thank you for your great tutorials.
Welcome Valerie all the way from the UK! Oh gosh yes, all those rubbings were such fun. Here in the US we donât have nearly as great church floors as you do! Itâs my pleasure really.
I learn something new with Dina scribble sticks. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Un vrai bonheur de vous suivre au fil de vos expérimentations qui sont de formidables découvertes , riches en enseignement!!!
Merveilleux et subtil reflet métallique et or sur vos créations!!!
Merci pour ce BEAU partage!!!
Your youth field trips sound like fantastic fun! Wish we could have done those!! I'm from South Africa. And I LOVE all your Klimt designs!!
Thank you! Yes they were. Welcome!
So fun. I love how you used the gel plate to seal in the color. Fantastic tip that I can see myself using with other water reactive media. . By the way, I love your stencils; I just got a large from Joggles (13 of your designs đ), and I canât wait to play with them and create some magic of my own. Thank you, and have a great weekend
Oh thank you so much Zuleima
What a great way to apply gel medium over a water reactive medium!!! Awesome tip. Thanks!
Sure!
Very cool! Love the idea of using the gel plate to seal the page. đš
It works great! Thanks Deb
This is an awesome technique. I love learning another way to use my stencils. I so much enjoy your techniques and teaching style!
Thanks Cass!! I appreciate it
I am putting together a peacock inspired junk journal, so I guess I need to go grab some of your amazing stencils! đŠ
you're awesome, thank you. I think you will really like the stencils for such a project!
Agreed. More useful without papers
right?? lots of peeling for me but it's done now and I'm happy!
You are awesome. So glad I found your videos. Thank you.
You are awesome! Thanks for being here
Learning a lot and happy I found you. I have a gel plate and hardly use it, not anymore. Canât wait to get started! Thank you!
Oh Ann Marie Iâm so happy to inspire!
Really enjoy watching you work from Cape Cod. Thx
I am from Western Mass, my grandparents lived in Hyannis my entire life, I am quite familiar with Cape Cod :-)
Thank you again for a fun tidbit Friday!
You are welcome!
Wow...your prints came out really beautiful đ€©
Thank you!!
What a fabulous idea! âđ»đšâïž
What a fabulous technique... Thank you for the inspiration!
My pleasure, it was fun to figure out
thanks for reminding me about the rubbings! i am from texas (or was there as a child), and we also had field trips to local cemeteries. we also did the rubbings, then went back to school to do collages and other artsy things with them. i'll have to ask my mother if she kept any of those with the other stuff she kept. i'll definitely do some rubbings with my stencils - never thought of that!
Great Iâm glad it gave you a trip down memory lane! Thatâs awesome. Yes, you can even rub pretty low relief patterns with the sides of these sticks.
Thank you for sharing this technique. I will use it with my Inktense blocks as they give a beautiful effect too but dry permanent.
Sure!
I don't know. Those Scribble Sticks don't impress me as much as the Derwent Inktense Blocks and Pencils. Have you tried those?! The Blocks, especially. In my humble opinion, the coverage is better with the Inktense Blocks. On the other hand, the gold interference effect was pretty cool over the Scribble Sticks.
I have the pencils yes! I have not tried the Derwent InkTense blocks, which would be what I could rub with. I will try them! THANKS
Agreed. But this is a great application for this product. They are blendable but waxier so the rubbing idea is awesome.
@@michellemybelle22 I'm glad you like it! I had fun figuring it out.
I love watching you work. Great technique.
Thank you so much!
FUN, Canât sit to try them! đđšâïž
Love the blue
Me too! Thanks so much
Loved this inspiring video! Canât wait to use my scribble sticks like this.
Awesome!!
AWESOME!!!
Thanks!
this is amazing, will have to try it. Thanks so much. Using the stencil "under" the paper, wow!
Just like the old gravestone rubbings!!
Iâm a New Englander too. I remember going with my sister in law to do gravestone rubbings. We used graphite & rice paper. Thank you for your tutorials.
Youâre welcome! Those were the days. :-)
@@ElizabethStHilaire Perhaps it was a â70âs thing! đ
@@603kimcrafts9 I think so!!!! LOL
LUV this, finally sat down to try them after I purchased from your links-FUN! TY! Are use the golden soft gel gloss clear drying acrylic medium as the topcoat, I assume that works fine?!
Yes! It totally does. I was just thinking about adding a little more color or pizzazz, but you can certainly use the clearcoat. Thanks Sheri!
You always look so awesomely chic.đ
Thank you for the video.
I have Gelatos and Super Crayons, these will definitely be next and from the demos I've seen will be my fav brand.
I'm curious about if they will work on dampened watercolor paper and if anything happens if a dry paper is misted, sprayed, or spattered with water after coloring.
I won't be able to afford these until December unless another stimulus check is sent out.
Real women aren't afraid to get their hands and nail covered in art media!đđđ
Iâm not sure about watercolor paper because thatâs too thick fir me to use in collage. They do blend nicely if you use them on damp paper I am sure, since they are water soluble. My hands are always messy!!
@@ElizabethStHilaire thank you.
I wonder if a thinner yupo might work, never tried it for collage.
@@cherylalikhani5957 I don't believe so Cheryl, as it's not absorbent for the glue and you cannot tear it!
@@cherylalikhani5957 nope, It will not absorb the glue, so it will not lay flat. You probably is not paper at all, more like a plastic. I would not recommend it.
Did you let the pages dry before each new application? I am new to channel and I am loving it. I have learned so from you.
The paint is dry immediately off the gel plate !
Fun! The first thing the art teacher where I taught did at the beginning of a school year was have the kids take the papers off crayons and pastels! So traumatic!đ
that's so funny! I was wondering how I would remember the color names without the papers, but then I figured it didn't matter, LOL
I am seeing this for the first time. What do you decorate with this paper paintings?
I am a collage artist. PaperPaintings.com
How fun. How would you compare these to other water soluble art crayons - neocolor II, marabu art sticks, portfolio, etc?
The only others I use are Stabilo Woodies and they are more vibrant but I like both. !
Scribble Sticks are hard, not soft like the others you list, which are more like pastels.
@@ltlredhen Woodies are actually quite firm, kind of like waxy and go on very smooth. Definitely NOT like pastels at all. Neo Color are about the same consistency
Oh sorry, I should have been more specific. I have the Marabu crayons and have used the Portfolio. They are softer like pastels. The Scribble Sticks and Woodies are both harder, in my opinion. Thanks! This is a beautiful demo!
I like Neocolor best. If I could have just one.
"Flesh tone" as long as you're white. đ
Iâm Sorry. Thatâs true. I should think more broadly.
Pastel colors
@@avanellehansen4525 agreed! Thank you Avanelle
@@ElizabethStHilaire No! I wasn't dissing you at all. I was dissing art manufacturing companies that think of only one pale peach color for a flesh tone. I see that all too often in various paint color guides by companies that really should know better. Sorry, I should have clarified that comment.
@@DrummerGrrrl no way! You are totally right. I should not have said âflesh toneâ itâs a habit, I didnât even think. â€ïž
