Unfortuately in the real world especially in corporate settings, bullies and talkers get all the raises and promotions while the quiet workhourses remain doing Secretarial Jobs. Fortunately Track is only about who gets across the finish line 1st. No power room politics involved. Which might be why it is a sport dominated by Black Athletes.

Ashford is one of the best female sprinters of all time,though she doesn't look very strong physically. She is also very humble and down to earth.
Who'd have thought even that at this glorious moment in her career Evelyn Ashford would still be winning Olympic gold eight years later in Barcelona. A true legend in the history of sprinting.

I have her listed above FloJo. FloJo was a flash in the pan just a good season and a half, Ashford was consistently dominant over her entire career.
Evelyn was a "natural" runner and beat Flo Jo many of times until "suddenly" Flo Jo became faster than Evelyn. As a direct result, suspicion of Flo Jo "late" achievements as a sprinter have been controversial. Remember speed is 85-90% God given....only about 10-15% is training, diet etc.

About 30 years ago I had a job at a athletic shoe place as a teen and one night Evelyn Ashford walked right in. I quickly recognized her as she was strolling around and I asked her if she needed some help finding anything. She responded very stoically, "no I'm ok thank you". She was very serious in other words. Like she said she's probably misunderstood and I could see why. I didn't take it seriously though heck I was 17 years old and got to see an Olympian. I did find her attractive by the way.

As an African American female, I cry every time I watch Evelyn compete....Evelyn bypassing the East German in 1988, for some reason reminds me of the Great Jesse Owens winning Berlin Olympics in 1936, the year my Momma was born...Evelyn Ashford had several injuries and gave birth in between 1984 and 1988 Olympics. I wish I could find current interviews of her on CZcams as a Retired Olympic Multiple Medalist...Flo Jo, may she RIP , received so much more publicity during her time then Evelyn Ashford...Sha' Carri Richardson [Will she make the 2021 U.S. Olympic Track Team?] seems to be styling herself after Flo Jo.

I practiced 440’s and 880’s with her sisters in Track. Their names were Wanda and Eunice Ashford and I ran Cross Country at South Dade High School in Homestead Florida in 1979-1980. Always wondered where they are today. Never got to meet Evelyn- Dang it!!The one thing I do remember was the Length of their legs!!! They both had Incredibly Long Legs!! They looked like they were striding when they ran- Like Effortlessly!! Good Athletes !!!

I unknowingly spent months working alongside Mrs. Ashford as a Publix bakery clerk a couple years ago. The woman is a speed demon and such an angel. I only found out about her history because I was talking to a coworker about how fast she works. She's just as peppy and energetic as she was back then. A true hard worker!

My all-time favorite sprinter, from the night I saw her run in 1977 at the Normal Manley games in Kingston Jamaica. She is shy, she never did color commentary, even though I know NBC would have loved to have her.

From 60m to 100m, Evelyn just pulled away to victory. When you think she's already beaten, she surprised you with her turbo kicks. Same thing with her US Team 4x100m at the Olympics (year?). The FRG Team was already in front in the home straight, but Evelyn Ashford created the finest finishing of all times in the women's relay.
She is the best female athlete that the world has ever seen 👍 Clean and honest ! Love her❤️
