No matter that Truls losed this match, it was pretty difficult game for both of them. Bravo guys!
In a 3-0? No, but understand everyone's feeling that it was close each game (no blowout victories). I think Truls needed s few more ways to win points, because his best shot was not working.

Ma Long é diferenciado demais
Very tough match for Ma, but you can tell he is completely focused and up for the challenge. Moregard had to make nearly every opportunity count to win. And Ma had to miss enough balls. But today, Ma didn't miss too many. So it was even tougher for Moregard.
Truls played as the match deserved, he show clearly how to play against to Ma Long, some luck for the next time. Ma Long is mentally stronger.

He is called dictator for no cause. He can adapt to any type of play against any player. He will not be allowed to play in Olympic, world champ. Ma Long is the only player who can take on FZD. Wish he will hang on for next few years.
I understand they are trying new things and camera angles for the sport and all that good stuff but sometimes new do not equate to better. This side angle maybe good for soccer, swimming, figure skating but deletes lots of fine details from the sport... At least they finally gave up on the 'straight over head rooftop' angle. Let's see how long it will take for them to give up on this dead side camera... Maybe the next best new camera angle will be under the table with transparent table tops. There you heard it here first folks!

well, to be fair Waldner won against Timo Boll and Ma Lin at the Olympics 2004 while being in his late 30s for instance, so he in fact dominated generations as well

Waldner was in the final of world championschips aganist Jiang Jialiang in 1987! He was the world champion for the first time i 1989 and in...2004 he beat Ma Lin at Olympics 2004 and came to SF. Ma Lin was in his prime this time. Walnder was almost 39! So who is the GOAT?

Waldner was almost 39 in Athens 2004 and only lost to the Olympic Champion, Ryu Seung Min, in the semifinals. And then Ma Lin/ " great" Ma LIn/, lost to Waldner easily. Waldner was very good in the long run. How long Ma Long will be playing? Who knows.

To everyone complaining about the terrible camera angles: tournament organizers do this as a "compromise" for advertisers. If the purpose of broadcasting these matches was purely to show the game to fans, the camera angles would be likely much, much better. But, for better or worse, the priority is making enough money to keep the organization financially solvent. The end result is a camera angle that shows just enough of the game to get CZcams views/attract fans while maximizing the amount of viewable real estate to satisfy advertisers. My point is: don't hate the player, hate the game.

No lol it's just because Truls was frustrated and doesn't apply himself to these attacks. Every time the ball went out it was the stall for Ma long. If the balls went through Ma long would have lost the point.

Moregard is a very predictable for Long.
Truls try to be more variative at serve receive and shot in the mid sometimes.
Also more straight shots from bh, u lose too much legs and positioning when begin from fh.

Good match, the 3-0 doesn't explain the match properly.
Moregard was simply not consistent enough. He gave away too many points, and that was the main difference between them.

What a terrible angle to watch such an important, quality game! Why take away the ability to see the nuance and beauty of the sport! There's a reason baseball never shows the pitcher from a similar angle during a pitch. This is so strange.
First let us say Truls is the only European who is “close” to have any chance to beat the top 3 Chinese player! He is that talented!!
That said, the challenge for him is very daunting too. First, his game depends on his creativity, placement and simply being different. Well, when he plays a creative shot, such as his backhand push/punch, he would be successful after one shot against all other Europeans and feels good. But against top 3 Chinese, they would return his shots not perfectly, but with enough quality simply based on their super solid fundamentals to surprise Truls. You simply can’t practice such responses and follow up shots that they would force Truls to play.
Second, Truls still need to improve his true core capabilities. Did you notice that when you play loop counter loop with top 3 Chinese, no one outside China have any consistency to win points, while those 3 can. We can all recall when Waldner was at his peak, he can win those points more often than not against ANYONE.
Finally, being a complete player. Truls has no backhand counterloop from mid and far away from table. Not to say you have to alway use it, but having it as your weapon is always good. There is also a balance between creativity and quality of every shots. We can say Ma Long is 80/20 between quality and creativity, Fan zhendong maybe 85/15, Wang Chunxin is 90/10, but Truls is at least 50/50 or even 30/70! It is impossible to be consistently creative and spontaneous, quality from hours of practice still matters!!
It's only been 2 or 3 months when Franziska actually beat Ma Long, and he won also against Xu Xin this year - and he's not even the best German. So how can Truls be the only one with a chance against the Chinese? xD
Overall, your analysis is accurate. Truls does have a big surprise factor, more than anyone out there playing these days. That said, in this match, Truls very well could have won.

Тут тактика нужна другая,подкруты,дальний ближний,а тупо перестрелкой тут китайца не возьмёшь.
This camera angle is trash. You can‘t see the full serving motion of one player. You can‘t see the sidespin curve of the ball. It feels like when I look on one player hitting the ball, I miss the action of the other one.
Table Tennis is desperately trying to change itself for better broadcasting possibilities (sets to 11, new serving rules, trying to slow down the game with plastic balls). But it won‘t help. The game is too fast and complex to make it interesting to watch for the casual viewer. It‘s a game for nerds.
Now they try to change the angle. Look at Tennis. They use the same angle for ages. Nobody would try to show a match from the side. But this is Table Tennis and they will succeed to change it for the worse,

Versus other oppenents this is a winning tactic for Truls, it is part of his playstyle . In this match, Truls pivoted 17 times to the backhand corner and went 7-10. Twice Ma had edge ball, and about 3 times, Truls missed when he had a good chance to kill the ball.

The only guys who can put fear in The Mainland are the Lebruns. Truls is a great player, but Ma Long is excellent
I don't think the lebrun bros are a threat to china either. The cnt must have studied them thoroughly and it would be quite difficult for lebrun bros to take down the players from the Chinese team(ma fan liang wang)... Not impossible bur super difficult

Cos it's hard to return Ma Longs totally illegal serve - ball behind head and shoulder on every serve! Referees scared to call it - cheaters laughing at ITTF serve rules which are just ignored. Find it hard to support Truls, but at least he has the integrity to serve legally.
@@michaelbrundl169 I personally would like to see every serve and how the opponent might mishandle it. Helps me think about my own game, to learn and watch which serve variations (amount of applied spin, direction, speed and placement) make sense for what types of players and how to exploit their weaknesses.

Agree with everything except "he will never be #1" anything can happen, you need to separate disliking his personality attitude to his skill and potential to become great, they're two different things. One can become the best player in the world but with bad attitude

Truls's reflexes, movement and return of serve basically lost him the game.
Ma long was miles better than him in those aspects and that's especially worrying for the 2 first aspects when you consider Truls is much younger than Ma long and should move better and have better reflexes
