Every time you get to the end of the conversation and you ask “do you know what Jesus’ last words were?”, they stop and think. While they do, I shed a tear because I realize the power and significance behind those words. We don’t have to pay the debt because it’s been paid for us! How beautiful are those words?! So powerful and potent! Thank you JESUS FOR YOUR SACRIFICE. It is finished!

You mean 'His last words on the cross'. Because He hasn't stopped speaking, in reality. In the book, He came back and spoke to many people, and He also said My sheep know My voice. He's still speaking. so...'His last words' make no sense unless you put it into context.

    • @MrNirom1
      @MrNirom1 Před 2 lety +62

Yes... his last words while on the cross was... It is finished. But that is only in ONE version of the four Gospels. No one but John seems to have heard it. For me... it meant that there was no need for more suffering on his part. The atonement for mankind was done. He did his part. He received the punishment that we would have received for the sins that we committed. Yes... this was the only way that he could forgive us of our sins. Because now he owned the debt. We owe Christ. Now it is time to do our part. Repent! Be Baptized! Receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands... and then endure until the end. We are to then follow his example all the rest of our lives. Sorry to some Christian faith's that when Jesus taught us HOW to pray... they twisted it into What to pray. The Christian world still to this day has very little faith in God and his Son so much that they baptize children before the age that they are accountable. And why do they do this? They fear that if they don't and then the child dies... they will be in Hell forever. I am sorry but that is not the God that I worship.

I just thought about my salvation experience.
As a very young child, I wanted Jesus the moment I learned of Him. My mother led me in a prayer to receive Jesus.
About 5 years went by, and at age 8, at AWANA, I had a friend ask me if I had received Jesus as my Savior. I didn't know if I had, so once again (my mom being and AWANA leader) led me through the sinners prayer to receive Jesus.
After that, in 5th grade, I became fearful I'd go to hell. Frequently, night after night, I cried out to God in prayer for salvation. All I can figure is that I wanted ASSURANCE of my salvation.
One night at the age of 12 years, crying before God for Him to really move on my behalf, I never doubted again. I knew I was saved! Is this the moment many REDEDICATE their lives to Jesus, and actually walk out changed?
What is DEDICATION? Surrender, sacrificing self
Is this doing what Ray mentions? Trusting in the Savior?
      Turning from sin?
      Maybe....

15 years ago I was a truck driver working in the oilfields of Texas. One night I stopped at an old truckstop to get something to eat and on my way out I picked up a gospel tract that was sitting on a shelf by the door. Little did I know at that moment that my life would be forever changed. Later that night all alone in the middle of the Texas oilfield on an oil lease, I found myyself on my knees crying out to God and reading the sinners prayer. Today, I am an ordained and licensed minister with a full time street ministry spreading the message of hope and salvation to the homeless on the streets of down town Houston, Texas. I5 years later I wished I could tell the person who placed the bible tract in that truckstop that the seed he had sown did not fall by the wayside.
I use bible tracts with the sinners prayer today. It is a seed that I am planting. Some of the seed will fall by the wayside, some onto stony ground and some will fall among the thorns. BUT some will fall onto good ground. Not everyone who reads the sinners prayer will pick up their cross and follow Jesus but some will... It wasnt easy and I made some mistakes along the way but with the help of the Lord I am an overcomer!
    Matthew 13:3-23 NKJV
Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Praise the Lord, dude! I love that testimony. Jesus did tell us to make disciples, he did tell us to teach people what he taught, but he didn't tell us to make converts, as that is his doing. That is why I have a problem with retreats, youth camps, and other events like that where the leaders count salvations, as if it was some sort of competition. How would any of us know how genuine someone's prayers were? How would we really know if someone was born again? That could only be confirmed by the change it makes in their lives. I am so glad you shared your story. It was super refreshing, brother! God bless and keep you and your whole household! By the way, I am not against the retreats and the camps I referred to. In fact, I love them and have been a part of many of them. I just found counting the "decisions for Christ" a little too presumptive. Please point it out if I am wrong on this.

Pornography was my weakness and Jesus removed that desire from me. It took 20 years of God's grace being patient with me to heal my soul. I was mentored and told to read the Bible and seek God's face only and forsake all women. I did that for seven months and He made me ready to meet my wife. The desire to watch Pornography was removed from me by praying, reading the Bible, repenting, and keeping the commandments. Jesus said if your right with God your right with me, ask anything in my name and I will give it to you. I prayed for healing and to remove the desire for porn and He did. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things shall be added unto you. Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. If you love me feed my sheep. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Love your wife as Jesus loves the Church. Corinthians 6:9-11 tells us who will NEVER enter the Kingdom of Heaven. On CZcams search for Richard Owen Roberts, Paul Washer, Carter Conlin, and Tim Dilena. These are real Spirit filled God fearing men. Right, that's why when I lead someone in a sinner's prayer, I make sure to tell them the significance and meaning of what they're doing. That "Lord" is not just a title, and that 100% sincerity is crucial for true conversion.
Romans 10:9-10 is the most explicit instruction we have concerning receiving salvation, and it talks clearly about a vocalized confession. the Holy Spirit is moving so powerfully upon so many that Ray witnesses to, it just kills me when he doesn't finish the job, so to speak, in leading them in the final step to salvation.
Of course it can be said insincerely, and result in a false conversion. But sometimes that false conversion at least puts that person in an environment (church) where they can be truly given over to Jesus. And even if they don't get that far, at least they now have the basic idea of what salvation is, and how to come to him if/when they truly want to in the future.

Here are some examples of The sinners prayer as it is used today:
      *Billy Graham Ministries*
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen.
*Cru Ministries (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ)*
Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.
      *Greg Laurie Salvation Prayer*
Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.
      *St. Paul Street Evangelization*
God our Father, I believe that out of Your infinite love You have created me. In a thousand ways I have shunned Your love. I repent of each and every one of my sins. Please forgive me. Thank You for sending Your Son to die for me, to save me from eternal death. I choose this day to enter into (renew my) covenant with You and to place Jesus at the center of my heart. I surrender to Him as Lord over my whole life. I ask You now to flood my soul with the gift of the Holy Spirit so that my life may be transformed. Ditto. God saved me in 1976 I was 27 years old. I didn't do anything to earn salvation. I realized it was a gift from God when I read his word and HE gave me understanding. I believed God and took him at his word. I still do. I trust him more and more and more everyday. In the beginning I couldn't wait to share the gospel with people. I would pray with people and lead them, comfortably in prayer as I thought was the right thing to do. I haven't used the sinner's prayer for many years now. Why? Since I realized that the sinner's prayer was nowhere to be found in the scriptures. When I witnessed two people I share the word of God. And I trust the author of God's word to work in each person's heart. God is Sovereign. And God knows exactly what's going on in each human heart. God is our great creator after all. The gospel is concise in: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4ff. May Almighty GOD richly bless you with HIS TRUTH.

@John Paul i don't understand what your question even entails? My heart? Being what you are calling an organic blood pump?
You can tell someone has a teachable heart because they are humble and willing to admit that they aren't a good person like everyone seems to think they are. You could probably get a cold blooded killer to admit that he thinks he's a good person; and then read God's word and see its the truth by taking putting his word to action and obeying it.
People are willing to risk so much and believe in things that may not even be real like rumors, gossip, folklore, ghosts or scientific THEORY but just immediately dismiss God is real because they cant sense him with any of his 5 senses. Or they dismiss him because they don't like who God says he is in his word because they think they know how God should be and he isn't that so he either doesn't exist or is an awful God.
Having a teachable heart is a gift because most people are to prideful to submit and surrender and admit they are not good. God loves a teachable heart because his word says so. Test his word, do what it actually says to do and see what God will do.
He is real man he isn't just a fantasy. Humans will invest there life into fantasies ALLL the time. Video games, movies, books, comics, fantasy sports novels and everything but then when it comes to God all the sudden we are labeled crazy and fine, call me crazy. That's ok, praise God for that.
It actually takes more faith to believe that God isn't real then to believe he is.
Tell me John can you PROVE God isn't real? Do you know everything? That would be an absolute lie. Just think about it John.
John 7:17- "Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own"

@@FragranceFrontier I watched it. Thanks for the suggestion. "Repentance is changing your mind." I get this as well. I mean its a slightly different take, but the two ideas work together. God is the father waiting with open arms for the prodigal son to come home. The son had a change of mind at some point. He returned with a change of heart and mind. What Ray said resonated, because the son didn't head out into the world again - nor would he. He came to a point where he truly recognized his own need. It sounds as if Pastor Morris had his own moment of realization. Can you sin and repent daily? I guess you could. Jesus compared healing of disease with forgiveness. True healing would mean you don't have to pray for healing again the next day - because you are no longer sick. If Jesus can heal the sick and they are truly healed, he can forgive the sinner and break the bondage that sin has over him. How many Christians are content with half a healing or only half free from the bondage of sin? This is why we have to work out our salvation. Salvation might be unique for each person. Jesus said we must be born of the spirit, which no man knows where it comes or where it goes. We need to wrestle the angel, like Jacob - reach out a hand and touch the hem of his garment. I believe Ray shows wisdom here. It's not as simple as saying a prayer. It could be, but then like the parable of the sower - the seed of the word can get eaten by birds or choked by weeds. Thanks for the link anyways, got me thinking on it.

I understand Rays point of view re “sinners prayer” . The Bible does say “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”. Ray talks like every time someone does this, it’s a false confession. That’s not always true, multitudes of people have done this and repented and have been saved. After witnessing to someone it’s important to let them know what to do to be saved. Ie recognise your sin, repent, confess Jesus is lord, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead., trust Him “like a parachute” as Ray says. You don’t have to pray it with them, but it’s important they know. We know it’s the Holy spirits job to convict, sometimes it’s worth pointing this out to them if you recognise that is happening.

Absolutely the "sinner's prayer" is not so unbiblical:
Jesus' wonderful invitation - "Lo, I stand at the door and knock. If ANY man hear My voice and open the door I will come in to him and eat with him and He will eat with Me."
"Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to you."

"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you shall be saved."
"Unless a man is born again, he cannot see (perceive/understand) the Kingdom of God."
"Whoever believes AND is baptised shall be saved but whoever does not believe shall be condemed" and since there is only "One Lord, One Faith ONE BAPTISM", clearly that means baptism in the Spirit, not water as the thief on the cross next to Jesus demonstrated

God sees your heart. Trusting in Him as your savour is how you are saved. Some rituals can help us focus to be more like him, they might prepare us to hear his voice, but in and of themselves they have no power to save. Only Jesus does. Religion often tries to use guilt to make you dependent on them for salvation. But they cannot provide assurance of salvation, nor can they step in the place of God and mark you as forgiven in his sight. Only God can do that. And when God does forgive us it's because he sees us wearing the pure robes of Christ we accepted as a gift from Him we do not deserve. Those who imagine they can make better garments on their own are those who rely on religion in it's empty form which God rejects. After we are saved though, our good deeds are then done as a celebration of the reality we have stepped into, they are not done out of pride or self deception that we are better than others. So the first posture is much more healthy and humble. God has no denominational labels that determine salvation, only what is the person's heart towards him. And those who seek him he promises will find. He sends helpers to those seeking so they can grow. God bless you!

We are meant to fear God which is why we hold so fast to His Word and nothing else.
Catholicism is replete with extra-biblical sources and material but the Word says, "Whoever goes beyond the teachings of Christ does not have God with him."

      Revelation 3:20:
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

I love the story of Nicodemus' chat with Jesus about being born again. If people just repeat the sinner's prayer and backslide, then maybe they did not understand the power of God's word. The "sinner's prayer" is not an incandation where one speaks the magic words and voila! I remember specifically the day I bowed my head and prayed when Billy Graham gave the invitation during his summer crusades in '67. At 13, I really did not understand, but know the Spriit of God kept me from many issues plagued by young people. Fast forward: After a year in Iraq, I was ready to head home when I suffered a stroke at Ft. Benning. As I layed in the ambulance, I realized how close to death I may be, or worse, becoming paralyzed. With that thought, I physically with my lips spoke praise to Jesus and proclaimed Him Lord of All. If I was to become paralyzed, then those whould be my last words spoken. With that I asked what I could learn from this emergency to help others. Then I heard the Lord's voice that nothing more will move against me. When I heard those words, the driver asked the attendant "Fast? Or slow and steady?" My attendant said "Slow. I think we're good." My word of confirmation. I suffered with NO debilitating conditions. Praise the Lord Almighty of Heaven and Earth!

Thanks for your words! You are absolutely right! I never prayed "the sinners prayer" with anybody because I have been saved only by faith 35 years ago without praying at all at first! I only knew that I went to bed crying after hearing the gospel and woke up knowing that I have eternal life and having no fear of death anymore. And on the other hand I saw so many people who went "to the altar" and prayed the sinners prayer and never started living with Jesus or changed their lives.
It is unbiblical, as you said, because we are saved by faith!

I knew after sleeping that night I woke up a completely different person . My thoughts , my words and my actions were never the same . I was very saddened to hear this view. I was convicted in a meeting but had no idea what to do. I was greatly relieved when a Salvation Army Officer asked me if I would like to give my life to Jesus and he led me in a sinners prayer. I will never forget the peace that came into my heart. Thank God he didn’t share the same view as is here stated otherwise I would not be saved and serving the Lord today as a pastor. I am fully aware that the prayer has to come from the heart as well as the mouth but this is no reason not to lead people in prayer. I have always admired Mr Comfort’s teaching and he has a great ministry but in this he is greatly mistaken and I cannot fathom what he hopes to achieve by this. I sincerely hope he will be gracious enough to change his view as there must be many that like me did not have a clue how to respond to such conviction. The Law may lead us to the Cross but conversion can only be achieved by the work of the Holy Spirit. If Doctors only diagnosed but did not guide a recovery programme little would ever be achieved.

I was 7 years old when I came to saving faith in Christ. My grandpa had explained the gospel to me, starting from the fall of Adam and how his sin was imputed to me. I was thoroughly convicted. By the end of his talk with me, I knew that I not only needed Jesus, I wanted Him! My grandpa led me in what would probably be called the "sinner's prayer", simply because I was too young to fully articulate and put into words what I was feeling. I knew what I was doing, though. I knew I was a sinner and needed Jesus and I was under no illusion that the prayer itself saved me.

@End Censorship! You have to start somewhere. The prayer is the beginning, but you also must begin to repent. The prayer is not a magic spell. God searches the heart. If you declare Jesus is Lord, ask for forgiveness of sins, acknowledge that Christ's death and resurrection paid your sin debt and you accept that gift, combined with a repentant heart, you are saved. You must continue to repent as you examine your life for change. If you don't, the prayer is without meaning. Continued study of Scripture and prayer are necessary to see where you need to change.

Matthew 18 “Hear then the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.[b] 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
