What I love about this episode is that they don't put any blame on anyone. Though most people sympathize with Nicole, both her and her parents have their flaws, which was also shown in the episode. Instead of pointing fingers, they just realized that its important to understand and forgive each other.
It's the subtle and not-so-subtle things this show does that make moments like these masterful

Frankly, Nicole's parents are in the wrong, clearly. I don't doubt that they love their daughter and want the best for her, but pressuring your kid with impossible expectations and then treating them like an "ungrateful brat" is nothing but emotional abuse, no matter how well-meaning. Still, this rings too close to home, and I'm glad they made up and still love each other. Sometimes, that's all you can get out of such relationship and it's already a progress

Chari Mahariel I don't think it's about who's in the wrong... I think it's more important that their love for one another trumped the petty argument they we're in.. maybe one day they can both say that they were at fault in some way. But Its not always one sided. Just a perspective.
Personally, I thought Nicole's father was a grumpy old man hater of traffic. But wow, he even tears up here.
It always amazes me with how if the parents didn’t turn back to make up with Nicole, they would of been hit by that passing truck. “But since they hit breaks to free themselves of their mistakes”, they are alive. I just find that so crazy that if they didn’t turn back, they wouldn’t even be able to forgive each other like that, since they would be seriously injured or could of died making Nicole feel remorseful about it

Susimations It’s not easy, and personally, a person shouldn’t HAVE to forgive just because it’s “the right thing to do”. Forgiveness takes time and effort, especially from the person that did the hurting to begin with. In my opinion, if the person that hurt you shows that they’re willing to change and PROVES to you that they have learned their lesson, then sure. If your heart allows it, then go ahead and forgive them. But forgiveness is not a given, or at least it shouldn’t be. No one has a right to your feelings and your time, and if you truly want nothing to do with them ever again, then that’s a choice everyone should respect and accept. It doesn’t matter if they’re family. In fact, ESPECIALLY if they’re family, because family members are the ones that often think that you OWE them your love and forgiveness, but you do not. You do not owe anyone ANYTHING. As my favorite saying goes: “Blood may be thicker than water, but that just makes it easier to drown in.”

That’s not being selfish, that’s just loving yourself enough to realize when a person or a situation is no longer beneficial to your emotional growth. Some people are just shitty, and sometimes shitty people are in our family. Learning to distance yourself from shifty people, even if they’re family, is super beneficial in the long run. You don’t realize how much a person has weighed you down until they’re finally out of your life. You can get through this tough patch, I believe in you.

I think the fact that they have Nicole's kids as their Phone background is what really gets me. You can see, under the high expectations and conflict, they can atleast love their grandchildren
Cartoon Network makes some of their cartoons a little dark but when they did it in this episode of gumball it just blew my mind away and it’s about forgiveness and relationship with ur parents and gumball singing was so deep which reminded me a little of Adele’s voice.

I remember on the original video, there was a comment about how Nicole's parents may have avoided that truck, but us viewers got hit with 16,000 pounds of raw emotion.

This is yet another grand thing coming out of such a wonderful show. If Nicole's parents didn't stop and turn back, they would've met their end by the speeding truck, like wow. Jacob's vocals were once again splendid, and even though Gumball said the song was about the presents, there was simply so much emotion it made me tear up. 10 minutes of pure gold.

And Logan Grove's Gumball continues to be distinct from the rest while Darwin's voice actors range from cute (Terrell Ransom, Jr and Christian J Simon) to annoying (Donielle Hansley Jr; Kwesi Boakye's voice is a gray area. It started out like Ransom, Jr and Christian J Simon, but when it broke, it made Donielle's dound good).
Canais Young what mistake? Cantu's sounds like Hawkins actually their voices are distinct enough to tell the difference I was telling the other guy that it wasn't Hawkins singing it was Cantu. Also you think some of Darwin's voices are annoying black surprising to hear because they all sound pretty much the same but I guess when they make that transition to puberty and getting older it makes them sound somewhat off.
I didn't think that in such a funny and happy cartoon, there could be such touching songs. I cried.
At the end gumball said that it was all about the gifts xD

Eubacterium Please, Gumball is a show that also uses that kind of comedy from time to time. I love this show, mind you, but saying that it doesn't have babyish kind of stuff is wrong. It gas a unique style of the comedy, but still the same type nonetheless. It's just that you focus on the episodes like this to compare even though the majority have silly plots and little to none emotional depth compared to this. I don't hate Teen Titans Go as much either. It has silly stories that have nothing to do with each other. Where's the harm? People need to cut loose from time to time. Although considering other cartoons also give comedy, their rapid fire jokes are not just a bit, but a lot much.

TheAkatsukitobi If it makes you feel any better, Cartoon Network's UK channel shows Gumball more than Teen Titans Go, mostly because Gumball is a UK show (yes, it may feel American, but its crew and most of the cast are from the UK and continental Europe, including the show creator) and Cartoon Network UK seems to have a prejudice against imported cartoons, especially American ones. Look online for stories about how Regular Show, Adventure Time, and Steven Universe have had parts cut for content, yet Gumball gets away with the same things.

It may seem like they were just forcing her to become successful, but parents who do that usually do it out of love. They don’t want their child to grow up and have to struggle for comfort, they want them to have a nice life which to some people means making a lot of money. Sometimes it seems like it’s worth having a hard childhood if that means you’ll have great adult life but that’s not always the case

Still, they should've known better than to expect so much.
Plus, one could still be in a "successful" career and still be leading a bad life or worse. Imagine graduating from Yale with a degree in Law, hoping to become a lawyer.
But instead, you get sent to work at Wal-Mart, a burger joint or as a bag boy for a supermarket. What SHOULD matter is if your child is happy and that's something Nicole's got with Richard
That may be true...but one could STILL live a strong, stable and prosperous life; even without a degree.
Who says you have to be a doctor or a lawyer...or even the president to live comfortably. A parent should understand that their child's happiness is more important than their own

I’m not saying it’s right, that’s just how some parents feel. Yeah there’s no guarantee of success but if they don’t try then they’ll feel bad if the son or daughter has a hard life. I guess it’s just up to the parent and how much they worry about their child’s future. Some parents go with the flow and others have to make sure everything goes right.

This is so sad. Even though they are disappointed in her they still love their daughter no matter what. They just wanted her to be successful, though they didn't realize they were pushing her too much. Same with Nicole, she was so overwhelmed but she still loves them. This actually me cry!!! I swear to this today this cartoon was a warning for me. I didn't speak to my parents for 12 years. My dad died on new years day 2021 and it came on the TV only now I understand the cartoon and the message being it. To my dad I miss you wish we could had fix things😢.

I know the song is about presents, but it still hits hard and can have a deep meaning if you think about it. And Gumball singing gives it more power.
I feel like the quip at the beginning is sort an acknowledgment that, yeah, this sort of moment wasn't really "earned' but it also doesn't matter much because it was still executed extremely well.
On the whole, Nicole's parents were much more in the wrong than she was, but the thing that made it all spiral (more) downward (them not showing up for her and Richard's wedding) really was a legitimate mistake, and that's the most tragic thing of all.
I'm one year late to reply to this but I thoroughly agree. I mean not turning up to your only child's, much less your own daughter's, wedding? That's like a giant slap AND an even bigger middle finger to Nicole. How horrible she must have felt during the whole wedding.
