The Prophet Joseph Smith was first visited by Moroni 200 years ago today on September 21, 1823. Moroni was the last contributor to a record about some of the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. Most importantly, it tells the true story of when Jesus Christ visited them after His resurrection. The record also teaches about God's covenants with His children. After four years of additional preparation, Joseph was given the responsibility of translating what we know today as the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

It could be true. Interesting that modern day non LDS anthropologists align the Adena and Hopewell cultures with nearly exact dates of the Jaridites and Nephites in North America. Both cultures vanished from the face of the Earth. Lots and lots of mound building so something was going on. Not hard to imagine a group from the Middle East successfully crossed the ocean to start a new life.
