- Banksy has confirmed that he is behind a new artwork that appeared in north London on Sunday.
The street artist uploaded before and after pictures of the Finsbury Park mural to social media on Monday.
It shows green paint sprayed on a wall behind a cut-back tree to look like foliage, with a stencil of a person holding a sprayer next to it.
Crowds have gathered to see the mural, with one local saying they were "proud" their street had been chosen.

It makes me sad somehow that we say that this artwork is beautiful but we do not recognise broken nature. I think that its wonderful but so tragic, I feel deep profound sadnes when I look at it.
What does the phrase broken nature mean?
it seems to me the people there have not seen leaves on trees for a very long long time. it must be such a barren concrete landscape.
Sad things can be beautiful in their own way

Sometimes spray a bee near it. Do it for the bees, not for the art props… but if we are giving Banksy some for this I figure i deserve a mention.

Amazing how this person is able to create this artwork, without anyone noticing. Awesome.

You do realise that the tree will have leaves on it… it’s quite literally the very end of the winter right now…
The irony is the place will be sprayed up by other graffa’s including the tree and I bet within 5 years that tree is gone.
Bravo.

Yet a Greenwich chip shop is not allowed a small union flag that is painted on its wall , shame
The chip shop owner's shop is in a conservation area near a world heritage site. He needed permission to have the mural and didn't seek permission from Greenwich Council. Plus the mural is considered an advertisement which he needed permission for. Banksy's latest work is in Islington and clearly they feel differently there about paintings on walls. It would be interesting to see if any and what laws Banksy's artwork has infringed.
@@beewa8840
😂 He’s committed criminal damage you pleb
@beewa8840 the union flag probably existed before the conservation area, yet somehow a bloke throwing green paint over someone else's property is deemed ok?, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, no one else would be given the privilege of graffiting a property up , get it covered up fast ,and it will be
@@keefsmiff Are you suggesting the chip shop owner's mural was painted before the area became a conservation area? I thought the mural was a recent development?
@beewa8840 no ,now you are being silly
Banksy is a great artist and a visionary. He bettered that dull, ugly wall and showcased the tree nicely. Love him and his work.
Unless people want their property painting he is no better than a vandal. But when the Mayor appriciates the vandalisim of a delapidated derelict wall then others may respect and not consider it vandalism.
@@MikeGreenwood51 What is a vandal? Someone who disturbs your inner sanctuary that the world is nice and neat without their mark on it.
A lot of people asking how he never gets caught... These do not take long especially one like this. He will have used a pressure sprayer to squirt green all over the side of the building (1 min) Then lay a black stencil for the person, spray that then remove the stencil and fill inside it with green quickly not bothering to not go on the black because he then lays the stencil for black again and sprays that to tidy it up (2 mins) I'd be surprised if he got caught spending probably less than 5 mins at the side of some flats early hours in the morning. If you like Banksy I'd suggest subscribing to his yt Banksy film he shows bits of the process on his vids, they don't take long depending on detail but they're effective and the guy is a hero
You could do the same.
But would you do the same?
Go be your own hero.

Banksy, if you're reading this, did you know you've been parodied by My Little Pony twice?
Once in MLP Equestria Girls and once in MLP Tell Your Tale.
And we have people who thinks a person throwing paint on the floor and scribbling it with their body and calls it art.
That's art too.
Art isn't what you see as "pleasing", it's what the creator of the drawing was thinking while doing it.
I mean if it were a blank space of nothingness and it was sold for millions I would get mad. But I like this creativity
This is really wonderful. I haven’t quite seen a Banksy painting like this one before. Not one at least that requires specific angle viewing and inclusions of three dimensions. Pretty damn cool.
Its kinda meh. Threw green paint at a wall and stenciled a painter. Meh
@@junioradult6219true, anyone can do something similar. But understand what he stands for then the art have a meaning.
Agree I bet there is a lot more to it in person than what they can show in this short clip. Its not just green paint and a girl, its multidimensional.
There's a lot of talk on visibility here, i actually think it's glow in the dark paint he used; how could he get away with that you ask? Leave the paint in canisters for a while until it loses its luminousity, spray the dull paint in the dark and wait a day or two for the sun light to reactivate the luminance 😅🫒 it's like a real tree 😋
Should make it difficult to sell and move .. unless they dig up the tree too.
😂 they can move whole buildings if required.
Money can move everything😂
Thank you mr B! Can you do something in Chessington next time pls
I love it, the artwork inspires great hope and a great amount of care, such powerful messaging and imagery, another masterpiece from The Legendary Elusive Artist, I can't stop rewatching this now 😊
😂😂😂 your an accentric who makes up stuff in his head. Pollock proved the art community is bad about that. Remember when he had animals accidently make paintings and watched as tons of art eccentric people made up meanings behind the paintings when there was zero. He called them out on all there BS
There's loads of Graffiti in my nearby town, wicklow council dont care, i was always flattered coz whenever i did a mural, always something clever and funny, it got covered up the next day, flattering
Banksy created another masterpiece 🎨 🌳 ✅
It’s clever art. But honestly, the celebrity hype is a bit silly.
not really..its an enviromental message that has been beaten to death for several decades...
nothing original
It's vandalism NOT art! Whatever happened to the rule of Law? Whether or not people like it, if it did not have permission it's criminal damage.
Absolutely agree.
Green spray paint on a wall. Hardly pure genius.
It's vandalism and graffiti
It’s funny how these things gain traction. If I walked past this and no one told me it was a ‘Banksy’, I’d just assume it was some rather ordinary street ‘art’. It still _is_ some rather ordinary street ‘art’ but because the name ‘Banksy’ has come to mean hordes of people must automatically dig anything he/she does, the very ordinary street ‘art’ is somehow elevated. With Banksy, one gets the feeling folk aren’t necessarily digging his/her work, but digging the fact they dig a famous street artist called ‘Banksy’.
Yes. There's a bit of media hype. And this definitely isn't one of his best works. It might be one of his worst, in fact.
At the same time, the grumbling complaints that people love to make about contemporary artists is quite peculiar. I find that if I don't like something, I just ignore it.
People like your art first. THEN you get famous. Not the other way around.
@@evonne315 That’s just not true. Van Gogh was utterly ignored by everyone, died, got famous and now everybody loves him.
That would of taken hours of time to paint. How could anyone not have seen him painting let alone then all the scaffolding used to paint it.
Banksy is not one single individual. Its a group of 6 people
It has to be at high hours of the night, probably
Interesting new take on his artwork - since his previous street sign one was literally stolen from its post, incorporating the art in the surrounding infrastructure that requires multiple pieces to be in place to 'view' make it impossible to move or steal - and vandalising the green paint would probably just make it look better!
Unless you had a power washer. That would be gone in 5 minutes
Cameras everywhere.....🤷
Nice TOUCH!
this is just food for humanity thank you Banksy

Maybe they seek him here and seek him there. But they know where you live.
Bansky is not allowed to graffiti its why Bansky remains anonymous.
Absolutely amazing!!!
You joking yeah?
What does it mean…?
And after you explain apply this… isn’t all that paint a pollutant/contaminant? Won’t more people now spray the place and tree ?
If you think this is good shouldn’t you be thanking gardeners and people that grow food rather than an artist and his art house cronies… that make art.. 😂
I mean, does the UK have street cams !?
Still, disappointed Bansky hasn’t produced any work on the war on Gaza
Have the hostages been returned? Maybe a mural about their lives?

so how long before the building owner or council remove it and then charge people to see it in a art show
And give the proceeds to the town?
If it's not a Banksy piece, people wouldn't stop to take pics, the piece wouldn't be protected but instead buffed, and they would look for the artist to lock him/her up, rip #kingrobbo
Banksy seems to have become more of a celebrity than an artist, unless he has a more secret oeuvre to be revealed.
vandalism is ok as long as I'm mysterious about it?
🎨🖌️ Banksy must have a whole company of artists working with and for him/her/they as it would explain why so many pieces of Banksy artworks are found all over the world. I really cannot see art. I see paint splashed on a wall. Is that paint environmentally produced?
Agreed. It's a load of rubbish
So if your standard of what's art is whether or not it's environmentally produced, then you are quite misled and completely incapable of commenting about art.
@@shepberryhill4912I heard the environmentalists commenting so I was asking them if the paint was environmentally sound. No, I just think his painting is ugly. My opinion. Give me Monet anyday!

Because his name is revered as an artist, his illegal art is respected versus if someone else did it, they would be criminalized.

@@CyndieAmalathe problem with this piece is not only is it super basic its not thought provoking at all. You would walk past it if you didnt know who made it and maybe glance at it. Modern art is as basic as art can be but it needs to make you feel something inside to be worth a damn. To me this is sorta meh, doesnt make me feel much at all. Ive recently seen street work that not only had more talent in it but it also makes you feel and deepely think about it. Thats all im saying, if its this basic it needs more feeling, like how haring did his murals. Cant be basic, bland and boring at the same time. Another example is jean-michel basquiat, i think he was garbage as far as a talented artist but he made very thought provoking paintings
It Is Incredible! Love his Work, Passion and Messages.💕♥️🇨🇦

It's just a load of paint on the wall, wouldn't really call it art
Yeah cover it with paint.
The sad thing is that if this wasnt bansky, just some randome street art it would be deemed as vandalism. Also i gotta say, not his best work. Its only my opionion but the making leaves of the tree dropping down doesnt really work if it meant to be a messege of both the environment but also the decaying of the environment.

So Banksy had to kill the tree to make art? 😢 I'd rather see its actual leaves than his painting.
No. The tree was pollarded by the council council; it's not dead and will grow fresh shoots in a month or so.
Duh wouldn't we all! that I believe is the main point he was making with this.
More lazy stenciling. His ideas are interesting. This is far from his best. It's more social commentary than actual art. Its great he does not confine himself to gallery's .
