It's a common joke that Zhongli spends all his time talking about himself and listening to his own history, but the real reason behind why he does all of this is actually heartbreaking.
He knows that sooner or later erosion of time will come and that he will slowly forget his own history and who he is. He wants people to remember him and the history of Liyue, so he listens to his people's own perpective of history and their opinions on Rex Lapis, not only to ensure that they will not forget all the sacrifices the adepti and Rex Lapis have done over millenia of violent battles but also, to preserve his own memory.
The reason he enjoys storytelling is to make sure his memory will remain intact for as long as he can and not forget those who have passed on as well. He wants to remember the reason for everything he had done as an Archon.

And since the story teller's stories are incomplete sometimes he made up the gaps between and Zhongli often gave him advices on what actually happen and how to improve the story telling

This quest had one of the best plot twists in the end. One of the most memorable story quests in genshin definitely!
A funny thing is that since the storyteller isn't using 100% facts in his stories and all the animated liyue cutscenes are narrated by him and zhongli there is a theory that you can only really believe what zhongli says during those cutscenes as the other parts are a bit dramatized by the storyteller. heck even the dialog of this SQ cutscene still work if you remove the storytellers dialog.
"Most of the ancient Geo life forms that live bellow Liyue are blind. Having not seen the sunligt for an age. ...that's how azhdaha was. I answered his wish, and took him above ground. ...I bestowed him with a pair of eyes to see the world. And came to an agreement with him. ...I agreed to let him live among the people above ground. But if the day ever came when he brought ruin to order. He would once again be sealed in the dark"
also have fun when you play against azhdaha's phase 2 and 3 in the weekly boss form since the SQ only uses phase 1 :) (it took me a while before i could solo it consistently because the dude just deals so much damage xd)
Azhdaha is one epic boss. Musically and gameplay-ly.
I would actually love to see you fight Azhdaha again. To this day, I cannot beat him without using a shield character. Also, since you were fighting him during Zhongli's story quest, you don't get to see his full battle abilities, as they remove some to make it easier to defeat him for the first time.
they also dont play his epic battle music which id love to see him hear.
i tried it with no shielder. attacking Azhdaha from afar by my bow users (Yelan, Ganyu, Yoimiya). sometimes i use Noelle. just be patient and also pay attention to the attack moves of Azhdaha to dodge it. also check the seal before you enter the domain. there are 2 symbols with colors which is the color of elements, bring characters opposite to it
I can beat him without shielder, but at least 2 of my character will die💀
The one who came to witness will witness, the one who came to remember will remember... Damn this foreshadowing a huge part of the sumeru archon quest

I still didn't play the game, but I've read the webcomic/manga this morning, and I love it! I want more, Genshin, give us more mangas, I'll buy and read them all! XD
I just remembered in the Teyvat chapter trailer, Dain talks about Rex Lapis signing the contract to end all other contracts, so probably has something to do with our missing brother or maybe I'm not paying enough attention.😅
That was in reference to his deal with the Fatui at the end of the Liyue Archon Quest, where he gave up his gnosis. He refers to it as such himself in one of the conversations afterward.

Azhdaha has similar origin as Venti. Venti the wind spirit and Azhdaha the rock spirit.
One could argue the first quest with Zhongli explored the Liyue lore more and expanded the depths of his character in a better way, but I very much prefer this quest. In fact, it might be my second favourite in the whole game, beaten only by Raiden Shogun's second.
The first quest in my opinion was ruined by the annoying side characters that seemed to have more of a presence than Zhongli himself. This quest doesn't suffer from that because the side character in this is super interesting. The main antagonist is also super intriguing, and the end of this quest really plays with your mind and heart.

you should totally do a stream where you read the genshin manga before you go to sumeru, it will help fill you in on some lore there :)
Btw in that cutscene whatever the storyteller is telling us a exaggeration for story purposes the truth is whatever Zhongli says there. So if you just look at what Zhongli said, it becomes something like he found a blind Azhdaha, gave him eyes and formed a contract. You can see how much the story teller exaggerates the content if you play Noelle Hangout quest 2.

Notice how zhongli only spoke when the story was true and when its false the storyteller speaks. Azdaha was not created by zhongli, it was probably dragon sovereign or its kid of liyue
I remember two years ago, Azhdaha was the hardest boss in genshin
Blaze I recommend you watch despair time daily life the victim is finally revealed and it should be long enough to be more than an hour and a half
When you using hu tao click elemental skill first before burst so it's gain more damage ( from 3000 damage to 10k damage )

This was epic! Azhdaha boss fight music is amazing!! Now that you’ve finished this quest, I wanna watch you react to Ashikai’s Beginners guide to Genshin lore - Liyue! Although it’s a little outdated with all the new info it’s still a really good video that tells the history of Liyue. Just a suggestion though, it’s ok if you don’t want to. blaze i always watch you on twitch but your attention in the story and lore is 10%, it's your choice but you must understand more because these games is a mega lore and your close to sumeru, may see Theory creators will help to understand what's happening.
