I always thought platinum looked really flat and honestly a bit boring. I tend to prefer beige and golden tones. Plus, platinum must be such a ball-ache to maintain.

I got tired of mine. I had white elsa hair-as my kiddos called it. I finally had enough and chopped off 18inches and now dye it medium gray. Im working through some things---but I so far have resisted bangs 😖

Yikes! That's why wigs exist. If you wanna be drastic, slap someone else's hair (or fake hair) on your head instead. Saves your hair...saves money & time because no regrowth to manage. That being said, that final styling she did was fire! She made that work!

@Mallory Knox it's an investment, sure. But when you're taking your hair to the extreme opposite color, the time & money spent fixing the regrowth adds up quick because it is so much more obvious. Not to mention the potential cost of reparitive treatments to fix the (repeated) damage.
I literally saw a girl the other day with long straight hair this exact colour*. A white girl but she had self-tanned so much she was orange and then this white platinum blonde* hair. I said to my partner "a wig would look better." Seriously. She looked god awful.

But when I tried to bleach my hair I was being dumb and some fell out but the more recent time it didn't take that well... I had a henna mask on my head basically- but Ive ran out so next time I try it shouldn't be an issue

Same, it frames the face and is so beautiful. My daughter has natural thick dark brows (she was born completely bald with her gorgeous brows and the nurses carried her all over showing them off) and blonde hair

I’ve only ever achieved platinum blonde hair once, it was a pain to maintain. I don’t think it’s worth the effort, even though it looked so good on me.

I loved my hair platinum. Had it professionally done with a shadow root. My hair dresser did a fabulous job. I had it for about a year, and got tired of it, and stupidly colored it a vivid. Now I want to go back to platinum, but Im afraid of frying my hair off

NEVER put 40 volume developer on your scalp! I don’t even recommend using 40 volume in general since it’s a lot more damaging.

@@hair-buddha Years ago, I had a legit hairdresser put 40 vol on my head and leave me sitting alone for at least 40 min. Burnt my entire scalp. It was so painful when I was processing. I even asked her if it was supposed to hurt and she said yes. Frankly I'm lucky I still can grow hair.
@@janiexoxo I am so sorry that happened to you! We learn in cosmetology school to never use 40 volume on the head. It’s even written in the textbook. Shame on that lady. SMH It should never hurt using the lower volumes and if it still does then rinse it off ASAP!
@@21hairgirl my current hairdresser understands my stress over lightning my hair and only uses 10 vol. But it took nearly ten years before I’d lighten my hair with anything but foils to keep it off my scalp.
@@janiexoxo Also I highly recommend a bond builder treatment and protein treatment when highlighting the hair. I love K18 and Olaplex. (I’m licensed.) Some lighteners have bond builders mixed in it for less damage. Hair Buddha loves the Blonde Me bleach with built in fiberplex.
I am black and natural. I have been platinum blonde and every other blond as well. My hair was always healthy because I did it slowly and in stages. I went a honey blonde first than a more sunny/yellow blonde and platinum finally. It took me about 6 weeks at least.
I actually like the color she got after the first round of bleach (7:29)! It was a strawberry blonde and I think it looked pretty with her skin tone. If she just added a shadow root, I think it would have looked cute. Then she could've let the hair rest before lightening it with a low volume developer about a month later. After that and a gentle toner (like Redken Shades EQ w/ Bonder Inside) she could've gotten a beautiful blonde, but it's so hard and risky in one day.
She looks amazing with short hair, and I absolutely LOVE the finger waves! She's slaying the bleached brow and I love that color platinum for her- gorgeous! Her beautiful skin tone would be complemented by something with a little warmth to it instead of silver, like Redken Shades EQ 10 GI Tahitian Sand (Golden Iridescent: bright cool-golden blonde for level 10 hair; pretty alone or mixed). I recommend looking into these toners because they're beautiful and don't damage your hair (matching processing solution is 7 Vol.), plus they have ones with bonder inside.

I don't blame you - strawberry blonde is a beautiful colour. I have brown hair, and I used to get it bleached sometimes (though my beard and eyebrows are black), but I got much happier with my natural colour.
Her final look is daring and unusual and I wouldn't change a thing. Really nice, perfect for summer or winter and sets off her features very well

I decided to stop dyeing my hair in May 2022 I don't have the patience and wear a pixie haircut to get rid of all the colored ( damaged hair) the beginning was tough but, today I love it and everyone said it is so beautiful… healthy and God make it for your face try it if you did not like it consider it break to rebuild the new healthy hair

We learn though our mistakes.
A lot of ladies attend Cosmetology classes to learn certain areas then stop attending once they learn the basics. Most of my over 40 years of Cosmetology was hands on.
I came across your channel because I wanted to do highlights at home. I literally watched EVERY youtube video I could find, watched all the bleach fails to get knowledge on what I should not do. Even I as an amateur knew that you're not supposed to use 40 vol lol.

Can confirm I had platinum blonde hair for about 4 years. I had breakage but my hair was already short. It wasn’t enough to completely damage and kill my hair but there was damage. I also put hair masks on and treatments to attempt to keep it healthy. I recently dyed it a natural shade of red to give it a break from bleaching. I also went to a professional hairdresser to bleach my hair so that’s probably why I still have hair on my head.
i agree, im always sleeping in masks & leave in treatments, but i love my hair long & blonde. For me, its worth it lol!!
With the money she spent getting this color ( killing her hair) and the money she will have to spend to bring it back to life, she could have bought a bunch of platinum blonde or whatever color wigs, still have her hair intact and never have to worry about regrow 😑
That's what I was thinking. I think the next time I get the itch to go blonde or red or something, I'll just invest in a nice wig. I went blonde once and only really enjoyed it for about 2 weeks. I't's been a year and a half and I'm still growing out this balayage. I'd rather have healthy hair and then just do something fun with a wig cap and high quality wig instead.

I never bleached my hair to platinum but used to dye it purple/pink etc. Been gradually cutting off bleached ends of my hair. Don't even know at this point where my natural hair ends and bleached one begins (or if there is any bleach left at all). I just know that i will never bleach my hair again. I ruined my wavy waist length hair. Lost half of the amount due to covid and been stuck at the same length (around bra strap) for over a year.

Suggestion: PSA to use swimming goggles for protection. Do it separately & rinse while still wearing the eye protection. Its watertight seal should save you.
This is going to sound terrible, but I don’t get the obsession with blonde or platinum hair. I get that we all want to change, but just go to a professional or buy a wig. Yes, I understand it’s cheaper to do it at home, but the cheap will come out expensive in the end when it’s a fail and you have to go to a salon anyway.

I haven't touched the bleach in years now but I found just as HB was saying that 20 volumes is more than enough especially if you do it 2, maybe 3 times. For my own hair the last time I tried 20 was more than enough to significantly lighten it. Back in the day I'd hit it with 40 maybe two or three times and then bleach wash until I was happy. Then I'd wonder why my lovely long hair would burn away up to my chin!! Don't do it ladies. Leave that 40V alone. You don't need it. It will only hurt your hair. If you're gonna do it then stick with 20. 20 is your friend. 40 is your frenemy and WILL do you dirty lol

OMG RIGHT?????? You have to change the colours of EVERYTHING too, like, your makeup, your clothes, your jewelry, all of it! The whites of your eyes will look sallow and your teeth will look yellow. I think so many DIYers just want to frequently change their hair fun unnatural colours, and for a lot of that, you don't need to have the base platinum depending on what you want your end result to be!!!
You can use facial hair bleach on your brows. It's much thicker than hair bleach mixture and doesn't drip. I did this for years back in the day. I never got it in my eyes, but my eyebrow hairs are permanently gone. I went a little crazy with the bleach, because I didn't like how my brows looked when the dark hairs started growing in. Don't be like me.

So I'm finally at the lovely platinum I wanted. It took several months, and I'm still trying to take care of the damage I can. (TIP FOR MY LONG HAIRED SIBS: KEEP YOUR HAIR OFF YOUR NECK AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! IT'S ANOTHER SOURCE OF HEAT!!!)
Also, I've found Loreal Elvive extreme damage shampoo and conditioner VERY helpful, as well as Dove Ultra intensive. I literally call them my miracle workers. Seriously, friends, if you can get them, do! Your hair will thank you.❤

Even now you have stylists on youtube say african hair is the strongest hair. No it's not, asian perfectly round thick hair is the strongest. Curls come with the big risk of open scutes. That's what my hair does, it will knot together like velcro and will become straw with any hairdryer. It needs to soak in moisture, have products to keep that moisture in and dry naturally from relatively wet. Mouse or gel will dry it out. I got all that from my dad why had a natural afro. My mom was Indo so at least my hair grows fast but I'm not doing a thing with it except try to keep it manageable. Then I can detangle it and have curls and shine.
