We live in Canada where I am driving on snow for 5 to 6 months a year, but now I have a local farmer clear the 1km private road and driveway.
I love when we get a good dump of snow, a long walk with the dogs, a warm fire in the living room, hot coffee and a nice quiet day. One year we got 4m (13 feet) of snow, which was a bit much, the kids were climbing up the snow drifts and stepping on to the roof. Good memories.

Paul clean the front on the snow plow, and give it a good paint job. The snow will slide right off. Once you get the hydraulics plumbed you will really like it. Great video.

Just on the face of the blade. I know they don’t want to tarnish their image. But the snow will roll off the plow and not just push the way it is now.

There is a "hack" (on the tube) for plowing gravel driveways without scraping up all the gravel. Black plastic pipe bolted to the bottom of the blade. It's round so it should slide over the gravel where the blade would cut into the driveway. Just a thought. Dave

That works ok on flat ground. But it leaves to much that just turns to ice on any kind of hill. Best thing to do is make your piles so that they aren’t in the yard and you put the gravel back on the drive when it thaws.

I'm SOOOO glad I don't live in the snow!!! Was stationed in Brunswick, Maine for a year and a half. Snow and ice caused me to wreck my beautiful little '69 912. Black ice - 35 miles per hour - slid sideways into a 4 foot diameter oak tree - right behind the drivers side C pillar - bent the car in half! One day got up early to shovel about three inches of snow off the driveway - I had OD duty that day. Just as I got through, the city snow plow came through and piled up a three foot high by 5 foot wide pile at the entrance to my driveway, Thank you very much, NOT!!! Now it doesn't snow very much here in South West, GEORGIA, thank you so very much more!!

LIke I said in my original post, Unless he is running in float mode. I ran a setup very similar. But even in float mode the issue with it being rigid is that you are constantly having to adjust the tilt of the blade(bucket) according to ground conditions. Where as if it is hinged, it will do a much better job without gouging in.
      Been there, done that.
Great reuse of a blade and still MUCH MUCH better than that box blade. Personally, I use a bucket on the front and a snow blower on the 3-point, but we get much more snow that I'm sure Paul gets.

Guys, I've done this a half dozen times.
#1 plow should have been pivoted at bottom bar mount to tractor.
And chained hard to top bar of tractor .
This will let the blade float like it was on a truck.
#2 if you do #1 you don't need a third function hydraulic just use the existing buck rotate control on the plow power angle.
The plow rotate will lock hard when you use the hose quick connectors.
Set the chain on blade and lift with the FEL .
Believe me the chain float works so much better the the heavy FEL fload

    • @neilfromclearwaterfl81
      @neilfromclearwaterfl81 Před 3 měsíci

Same here. Much nicer to sit inside with coffee, heat and defrost when plowing snow. On my 1960's PowerWagon that they called the Beast the radio was more of a visual accessory that you could only hear when the engine was off since the big block V8 and factory straight through exhaust would drown out any radio (available back then) or conversation for that matter.
I would have just left the plow factory and mounted the standard snow plow spring latches on the John Deer quick connects so I'd have the option to hook that up to what looks like a standard Western Plow Frame on any pickup truck and use the chain to suspend it. That way it pivots on the pins and floats as it should lowering the chance of flipping the blade on the overloads. Personally I prefer the heavier duty and more adjustable Fisher design with just the scraping edge that flips back to the fold over Western design that flips the whole blade flat when it overloads. Had to rescue too many with the Western plows who overloaded the blade and in a heartbeat ended up high centered on the snow load left when the blade flipped over and the front wheels of the truck ran up and over the banking. On a lot like Pauls though a Butterfly plow blade might be the best of both worlds due to its ability to turn into a standard V, straight/L/R angled, reverse V, right angle or left angle plow.
Get a hard facing rod to treat 6 to 12 inches along the bottom of the scraper from each edge towards the center of the blade before it starts to wear and it will last a lot longer. Then every now and then just touch it up before any substantial wear occurs and life is good.
      Best!

So I watch all of your videos most are great, but this one I think you need to think about a redo. Here is why you should have used the chain on top and let the bottom pivot like it did on the truck. That is how mine is setup and it floats well. Your setup you will have to move the controls a lot to keep ground contact. It also would let it jump if you hung a curb. If you hang your it is likely to tweak the loader frame. I would consider reworking to to let it pivot and use the a chain on the top, so it can float. I have bent a load frame, huge pain to get it back right.

We use strips of that radial rubber old mining belt and sandwich it between the blade and plow. It takes a bit to wear it down but it’s easier on cement and the wet snow we get here I utah it squeegees really nice. If you do it only allow 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to hang free. It’s awesome for four wheeler snow plows to because when you hit the lips on a sidewalk it will give a little. Better than going over the handle bars.

Be cold and plow snow on a tractor. Why not hook the plow to one of the many trucks and stay warm while plowing?
Either way great fab work. You guys are a great team.

Yeah moving snow with that bucket is like shoveling a load of manure out the truck with a garden trowel, that will be even more efficient when you sort the hydraulics out👍👍

That's a great improvement for you guys. You put it to the test with that wet heavy snow and didn't break anything. Now you can send Hunter to plow driveways and make his payroll back for you 😂😂. Great job guys and Michelle can make it to work now. Best part was seeing the tow truck back to work and running awesome 👍.

May wanna pull the pivot pin and drill it for a grease fitting, the slides on the blade should be adjustable so you don't dig the gravel up, we used a peice of 3/8" plate to make ours, tried to get the father I law to put third function on his for the blade

They have been removing the foot pads and putting a piece of black abs pipe on the cutting blade. Slit it and shove it on. Doesn’t roll up the stone and glides over pavement. The white stuff is to stiff so they use 2 1/2 black stiff pipe.

I think you might like it better if the blade floats. That's how they are set up on trucks. You will probably find that it digs in too much on uneven ground unless you are constantly adjusting it with your bucket controls.

My folks live on the east side of the mountains in Washington. They get tons of snow. They also live 1000' above town in Chelan and have a super long steep driveway. They have a tractor for plowing but mostly use their 4wd quads with a plow on it as it is quicker. Food for thought. Very cool though.

I’ve been watching you guys for a few years now, I guess I love all the mechanics you guys do. But one other thing that is apparent in the videos recently, is all the cover you have now. The new building, the over hang in front. Isn’t that nice?
There’s only one problem… there ain’t enough of it…😂… but great job on adding that stuff, and I’m sure you’ll be adding more… protection from the elements makes life so much more fun!
