Thanks Derek! I hope to have my 7D ii first of the week along with a 24-105 f4 macro to add to my Sigma 150-600 C. I'm so looking forward to the extra versatility of this setup.
Great teaching video, Derek and thanks for the shout out. I've marked it as a favourite, so when I can finally get the 7dmkii, I can come back and work through the focus settings. The thing I most like is that you are getting great tack sharp pictures in very low light situations. Thanks again, Humphrey
Like your video you "Bird Whisper" you. I have a Canon 6d with a 100-400 L IS Sum. I have been using . Most of the birding have been doing is some woods I walk through a on the way to and from the building I work in. Most of the birds I come across are very small an jittery little bundles. I have been practicing with the back button, not weaned onto yet. One thing I have found is using the focus priority setting mode toward shoot when in focus. I have found that as I am following a bird from branch to branch it sort of throttles the taking rate and delivers pretty good "in-focus" hit rate. Your thoughts? I was looking to get a 300mm 2.8 or getting a crop sensor camera like a 7d. The 7d sounds like a good thing due to the extra focus points control, which would seem good based on some of the hovering bird shots I've tried. Single point on the 6d seems a bit small and the all on a bit much. Something in between would help with the hovering shots. Your thoughts?
Back button a.f. is not the save all. I set my Back button auto focus button set to stop auto focus so I can shoot birds in flight with my index finger on for ai servo and stop a.f. by instantly pressing a.f. button to stop if something blocks my subject. And use my star/ atterisc button for custom recall shooting mode so if my bird flies into a different exposure than what my 7d mark ii is set for.
Pauline Follett you can also use the focus as is , just use the a.f.on button to lock focus on when your subject stops. It works well in alot of my shooting situations. Say when water foul is in flight and lands in water.
Derek as with quite a few Photography CZcams producers the visual is emphasized to the shortfall of the audio. If you haven't since producing this video, get a good Rode microphone. Cheers!
poor video no close ups of the camera screen to show you which menu things are in and whereabouts in the menu the settings are. hope this helps you with other videos . really appreciate the people who take the time to make these sort of videos

Brilliant, just changed to back button focusing, looking forward to trying it!

How to get cinematic video setting hd

top hints. I will try back button focusing.
If you did it is excellent and you will never go back to the original setting.
