    You skipped over the built-in GPS. The bump in front of the hot shoe is the GPS antenna. The important thing to know about GPS is that it is a tremendous battery drain, so just be aware if you use it.

    What Fro didn't mention which i believe is important is when you view the histogram, use the RGB one not the standard, it gives a more truer representation of exposure.

    With Safety Shift on, the camera will adjust either your shutter speed or aperture (depending on whether youre in Av or Tv mode) to make sure you get the best exposure. If, however, you are using a particular shutter speed or aperture to achieve a specific look to your images, the EOS 5D Mark III, EOS-1D X, EOS-1D Mark IV and EOS-1D Mark III DSLRs offer the ability to adjust the exposure using ISO instead. (Auto ISO) This allows you to retain control of your shutter speed or aperture and thereby maintain the look you were after, using the extensive ISO ranges of the cameras to get the correct exposure.

    According to Canon blurb: Exposure safety shift is a feature that overrides the set aperture or shutter speed (in aperture or shutter-speed priority, respectively) in the event said aperture or shutter speed causes the other exposure determinants required to achieve a correct exposure to exceed the camera's limits.
    Basically if the processor in the camera thinks that you have set the wrong exposure it will over-ride your settings to get what it thinks is the correct exposure to return an 18% grey photo.

    I love the different cases on my 5Dmark3 as well although I haven't had much time to play with them or shoot anything that's moving fast. I think the bracketing is 3,2,5,7 because the default number for bracketing was always 3 including in film days, not sure how they would even do it with 2.

  • @JaredRibic

    My only gripe is I wish Canon didn't disable the Exposure Level Indicator on the top LCD when in Manual Mode on the 7D Mk2.
    All my other Canon bodies have had this (20D. 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D Mk2, 5D Mk3), but it's disabled on the 7D Mk2.
    Hopefully there will be a firmware update to bring it back to the 7D Mk2, and I hope it's still available on the 5D Mk4.
    Other than that, the only thing I could wish for is ISO 50.

  • @forsterl.stewart414

    Safety shift: When in auto modes like Av or Tv mode. When you've reached the limits of exposure control. Lets say in AV mode your lens is a f4 and your cameras fastest shutter speed is 1/8000th and your iso it at 1000. On a bright sunny day the meter says at this aperture you'll need a shutter speed of 1/32000th. Your photo will be over exposed so safety shift allows the camera to adjust whatever you select your camera to use to make steps for a correct exposure. I usually choose iso as my preffered method.

      He has the wide angle 16-35mm lens (which I own and use frequently). This equates to a final length of 25.6mm-56mm respectively. However, it is a "L" series lens meaning it has the BEST glass Canon has to offer the professional community. It does produce great colour, good bokeh, reduced flare, and vignetting and other characteristics. But it is not cheap at $2000+. Plus it is heavy, and offers little variance for composition for travel photography - with such a short focal length, 16-35mm. Canon produces a cheaper version. Typically, this is use for most shooting situations where subjects are close or when taking panoramas (vistas). However, for pulling subjects up close when shooting at subjects further away a longer lens is needed, such as lenses of 28-300mm or even the 70-200mm focal length. Your choice between these lenses will be dictated by the aperture that you wish to work with, ie. f2.8 or f4-5.6. Cost varies accordingly. Aftermarket manufacturers have options more attractive costs with limitations on photographic performance of course!

      hold it still on a tripod and change the shutter speed to really slow like 3-5 seconds. make sure to adjust the aperture and iso appropriately so it doesn't become overexposed. To make things easier, you can also use shutter priority or bulb mode.

    do you ever calibrate your lenses to your camera body? is it worth it, or even a smart idea

    • @gbsailing9436
      @gbsailing9436 Před 5 lety

      Are you using Canon lenses? If so why would you even do that. If you are NOT, then you would have to question why you are NOT using Canon lenses. If you still wish to use third party lenses then yes you might use the calibrate or more correctly "fine adjustment" option. But I argue, if you are a working photographer and time is money, surely you don't have time to do this and you are just replacing the lens saving against time EXPENDITURE in calibrating ALL your lenses. YOU need to ask yourself, 'how much is my time worth?' if you feel the need to save on expenditure and spend time on calibration. Calibration is not easy, nor simple, for each lens. Before and after photographs and printing each time each photo. and retrying all over again. You'd be better off renting lenses for each job and saving up to buy a lens. IMO

      Elly Delon Itcould be damaged, look for any signs of damage or mishandling. The other thing could be the battery or SD card could be damaged, (the battery when taken out for too long can affect some of the settings.) Otherwise I suggest going to your nearest camera or Cannon store and getting that checked out.

    Not even helpful - what is the value of watching someone show you their settings without saying why certain options were chosen.

      +SparkyHD but then again adorama also has a 70d for $800 main reason I'd choose the 70d is honestly the touch screen and the swivel screen.

    I just got a 7d mark II. I've been watching your video, at about the 24 minute mark you move the focus points around. However, you just say something like "you press this button", but you don't show *which* button it actually is. I have no idea how you got to that autofocus screen. Good video otherwise!

    SAFETY SHIFT!?!?! You're telling me you don't know what Safety Shift is??? Oh my goodness! This was introduced back in the late 70-80's when Canon introduced the AE-1 Program camera, a beautiful camera. This introduced a new level of electronics on Canon cameras just prior to them moving to their 'EOS' system. What it did was shift exposure settings in either Av, or TV modes to fulfil reciprocity values, thereby keeping reciprocity failure from happening when the photographer changed his settings in "either" mode. What does that mean? Ok say you are working in Av mode. Your last photo was at f2.8 @ ISO 200, if you then moved your camera to view a new setting with different lighting and you suddenly changed the aperture to f5.6 say, without changing the ISO (which you would not have done in those days due to the fact that you were working with film - you were stuck with the same ISO throughout the whole length of film - not like today with digital, where you can just change anything you like), then it would automatically change the shutter speed to the correct speed for a correct exposure. "Oh that happens automatically in today world!" Yes it does! Is my answer. Most photographers take this very much for granted today and work this with Safety Shift on everyday. However, here (as you explain above), Canon give you the option to turn the Auto setting off and leave you in control. Considering "AUTO" ISO, this could be a better option, but like you say, without reading the manual (WHICH EVERYONE SHOULD DO !!!), leaving it intact will probably be OK. AS long as you have you ISO, Aperture, and shutter Speed parameters SET back in the RED menu!!!

      @willoughbykrenzteinburg Před 9 lety

      69ingChipmunkzz IT depends on the camera. The 7D had a 4:3 aspect ratio; the mk ii has a 3:2. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and even model to model - as in this case.

    • @MichaelPott

      If you didn’t figure it out by yourself yet: MF Stands for manual focus. To change that you have to set a little switch on the lens to AF. If you did that and it still doesn’t work, there’s a good chance the lens either doesn’t have AF (unlikely if it’s a canon lens) or the AF-Motor inside the lens might be broken.
