There are no justifications required for loving family of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasalam, we love them immensely because they are the family of our beloved prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasalam, and hardships they have endured for the sake of Allah also necessitates that love,

i am from Algeria, and my father and my grand father told us that we are ahlu l bayt, in Algeria are called murabittin. Alhamdoulilah I am proud of this, the most important is what you do and your deeds but my lineage is to the prophet saw and given to us by Allah.

Narrated Ibn `Umar:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Authority of ruling will remain with Quraish, even if only two of them remained."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لا يَزَالُ هَذَا الأَمْرُ فِي قُرَيْشٍ، مَا بَقِيَ مِنْهُمُ اثْنَانِ ".

What the Prophet must be referring to are his immediate family members that knew him in his lifetime. He has no knowledge of what his progenies, that he never met, will be up to. Also direct descendants are from the male bloodline.
Are those that claim ahl-bayt mahram to the prophet if he was alive today?
Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم said that the Mahdi would be from his family. So it's not just those who have seen him.
