Well done mate! I’ve had my Mini Maton Diesel model for a few months now and I LOVE IT!! Great post. Thank you!! Cheers, Ren
Enjoy Ren!
I loved it so much I bought another.
I got this 2020 ltd em6 that has an ap pro5 pickup. I almost want to have the whole collection of minis! Thanks for making this vid they deserve all the love!
How awesome would it be to have the entire collection!!! Thanks for watching!
Maton mini its my dream I dream about this guitar really amazing
Thanks for watching!
Just bought my first 808TE I am so impressed. It fills the room so well.
They are an amazing instrument. Enjoy!
Cool demo bro.. tks 🤙🏼
Thanks for watching!
About to pull the trigger on a EMD6. Good review.
Well worth it Paul - enjoy!
I absolutely love Maton and the guitars they have built over the years. I only have one Maton, which is the MS500, but I have played one other Maton which was the SRS60C. I think I may have to use just Maton now because of how amazing they are!
They really are amazing and addictive instruments! Thanks for watching
@@TheMusicLoop Absolutely!! I love your channel!

Great video mate. My main acoustic is a Maton ER90C dreadnought. I’ve had it for just over ten years now and it’s a cannon. I also own the all Blackwood mini Maton 12 string. You are spot on about the sound of the mini. The overall acoustic sound is amazing and I don’t reckon you could find a better preamp. To me, the twelve string version is even more unique. Depending on my needs I string it as a 12, a 9 for sweet fingerpicking and a 6 if I need to play aggressive chord stuff. Three guitars in one, light as a feather and so easy to play!
That sounds amazing - always blows my mind seeing a 12 string mini. So much goodness packed into a small package!

For over 44 years I have played Ovation 12 & 6, these guitars are all I know. However, at 63 I neither have the dexterity or the desire to keep sweating the fretboard & therefore after a recent purchase of a short scale bass guitar,I wondered, maybe I should explore short scale acoustic guitars, & this search has led me to the Maton mini, specifically the Maton Diesel. Your vid has confirmed that this crazy idea of mine is not so crazy. Thank you!!
Good luck with the search Michael - you won't be disappointed with these guitars!
I picked up my EM6 a couple of years ago (I reckon shortly after they were released). Best guitar I've ever owned, especially for looping, but mainly just because when you knock out one of your 6/7 hour sets, it doesn't feel like you've got a truck hanging off your shoulders. Good review man!
Makes the world of difference on long gigs! Thanks for watching
Great video. My sentiments exactly! I have a Taylor k22ce 12 fret, in Koa the I absolutely LOVE..until I plug in it to perform live. I'm always left wanting with the pick ups and sound in general. I mic it to record but don't plug in.
Then I got a Maton Mini Diesel - it's a whole different world! it is my go to live/plugged in guitar for performing now. LOVE IT!
Quick question for you; you are playing the EMBW6 in this vid. how do you compare with the Mini Diesel?
thanks in advance
F
Hey mate, I've played both live and was deciding between both when I bought this. This particular Mini just sounded awesome when trying them out and I actually prefer the finish on this to the Diesel.
Both outstanding guitars though!
Thanks for watching
@@TheMusicLoop hey, cheers for swift reply. I think I prefer the finish on yours too! Ha!
Really enjoy your videos man, keep it up 😁👍
My main acoustic has been the EM-6 for around 5 years now and I agree with everything you say. The sound is huge for such a little beast, the pick up is just incredible! I'll only buy Maton guitars now My back doesnt hurt ans is a real easy guitar to play. It's just so alive and make looping beats etc on it pretty easy. I used to play a dreadnaught Taylor and i'd find dead spots all over it plus generally i'd have to sit down. All the best from the UK.
Totally agree - very hard to go back to a dreadnaught size for playing live. My acoustics are all Maton as I know what I'm going to get.

Hey man, thanks for the review. Even in a hard case is this suitable for carry on size? What are the dimensions overall of this? Got one on its way to go travelling with! Thanks
I'm pretty sure you could get away with carry on with most airlines. Not sure of dimensions - maton website will have them 👍
I was trying out gs minis and Marin dr juniors when this little Blackwood beauty stood out other side of the room like a pretty chick that catches your eye. I’m not normally a fan of maton , I have a maton full size and it’s nice but not my sound. But this little thing, one of the best feeling and looking guitars I’ve ever seen. All parts are top quality, all solid, loads of detail, hard case as well, and the sound is only going to get better and better. For bumming around home on the couch whatever , perfect for picking up and jamming , I am really contemplating doubling my spend and getting one over the Martin’s and Taylor’s. (Martin dr jr was also very good). I’m not a performer and not very good , I play for myself just for fun and the challenge of learning albeit slowly), but proffesional or not , that mini maton Blackwood I can’t stop thinking about. It would definitely count as a definite family heirloom piece
That's awesome man! Perfect little guitar for inspiration on the couch. Good luck with the purchase!
@@TheMusicLoopthanks, though as I’m not a performer and people say it’s all about being plugged in, maybe it’s above my level. But at the same time I don’t need it to sound like a pro, I’m the only one who hears me lol just such a nice instrument !
I prefer the SRS808 actually
Hi.... I was just wondering what differences there might be between the Maton Mini and the Ebw 808 plugged in? I'm heading to Australia soon and was thinking that the Mini was what I'll be taking home, but now I'm leaning towards the 808. Can you enlighten me at all?
Cheers mate 😊👍
If you are just using the piezo in the AP5 Pro, then they will sound very similar. If you are using the internal mic to blend, the differences in body type will start to come through.
Acoustically, chalk and cheese as the Mini isn't designed to be played acoustically and the 808 will absolutely sing here.
Plenty of guitar shops have both - sit down, play and see what you like! Good luck
@@TheMusicLoop thank you for the great reply! Cheers
My go to has always been a Taylor GS Mini Mahogany. I've cycled through nicer, more expensive, premium guitars (Larivee LV03MH, Martin, Teton, Takamine) and I always come back to playing the GS Mini more. In the end, it's playability makes it more enjoyable.
I think this would be my most played guitar if I had it.
The GS Mini's are an addictive instrument that make you want to play more. I totally get it! Thanks for watching
Once you’ve played a mini you’ll never go back! I’m a proud owner of a mini
hi mate! what's the difference between the Maton emd6 diesel special and the Maton mini that you have?
Hey Fabri, this one has a Queensland maple neck instead of Blackwood neck (EMD6) and the Blackwood rating on this is "A" as opposed to "AA" on EMD6.
My choice was this as I prefer the natural finish of these models. Hope this helps!
Didn't need to watch this video to be convinced. Carl Wockner plays one and his sound is amazing live and in all of his videos. I was amazed to find out from him that he literally does hardly anything to eq his instrument. I think he'll roll off a little high end but that's about it just good natural tone. Nice comprehensive job on the video though!
Carl is a legend! I'm a big fan 👍
@@TheMusicLoop I had the fortunate opportunity of seeing him because my wife had family getting married in Nashville last year. Otherwise we're on the other side of the country in California.
I'm thinking of getting one as I'm very recently getting sore thumb and fingers on my older maton ( hopefully not arthritis, but wonder if this will help!?)
I think so James. It is considerably smaller in the hands and a lot more comfortable to play. Think you will find it considerably easier on the hands
Imma drop a comment I guess. For live performance I use the EBG808 artist. The mini maton seems like a good hybrid between my two favourite guitars, which are the EBG808 artist and martin lx1e.
I love the EBG808 - such a pleasure to play. Thanks for watching

I agree with everything however after having and loving the full size ebw808 then 2 minis of this model and another mini mahogany version, the minis absolutely don't have that big bell like sound of the full size. I think for a band mix these are perfect but as a soloist i couldn't get a decent room filling sound out of the minis. I think where these models fall short is that they are just WAY too small and boxy acoustic which is a huge credit to the AP5 Pro making that sound usable live. If Maton were prepared to go up to a Taylor GS Mini sized (fuller sounding) model then we could have a real amazing live guitar. Just my 2 cents :). Thanks for the vid!
Great points Clint. It's definitely an acquired taste as a solo instrument. The GS minis have a "rounder" sound in my head and are also a brilliant instrument. Thanks for watching!
My live guitar Mini Maton TE model 👍
Nice!! The TE range is stunning!
@@TheMusicLoop Managed to find it in a music shop in the UK !! Very hard to find over here … looking out for a diesel mini now to keep my TE company … !!!!!!
If i want to do percussion and smash on my guitar to create a beat loop, can I use both microphone and piezo. What would you do?
I prefer to turn the mic down or almost off for looping. The piezo delivers a solid kick drum sound on the saddle area and I find the mic can pick up a lot of ambient noise, if you are playing to a decent sized crowd or loud venue. Thanks for watching
How's the sound and playability when you tune it to eflat?
Spunds good- intonation is a slight issue sometimes. Ill often bring a second guitar to gigs if we have enough Eb tunes
Thanks man ❤❤❤
I do Ed sheeran looping, should I go for EM6 or EMD6?
Both guitars very capable. Different woods so try them both and see which you prefer the sound of. Good luck!
EMM6 Maton Min Mahogany owner since 2015. Greatest guitar ever made for just noodling on the lounge without making enough noise to annoy anyone. Mine has over 5000 hours of playing on it now and sounds far better now than it did when it was new. They take a long time and a lot of playing before the sound opens up on them acoustically. When new or with limited use they sound very boxy and dead, Only downside is the tuners are garbage. The guitar deserves better.
Nice!! Love how a good acoustic ages well . Thanks for watching
Is it smaller than the Taylor gs mini?
I'm not sure to be honest as I've never sat them next to each other.
Yes, it is noticeably smaller than a GS mini. The mini sounds sweeter / more refined than the GS but the GS has far better dynamics and overall volume.
No ebw 808 or srs808 are the best live guitar
I own a Diesel … the guitar for the rest of my Life !!!!!
Love the Diesel's!!!
The 808 is much better
I still think its a violin
Me too - just cheaper!
