- Welcome to my restoration channel! If you like restoration videos or restoration asmr videos you found the right spot! In this video I restore a Craftsman(Sears, Roebuck and CO. USA) Bench grinder that I picked at an auction for around $60 USD. This is a 1/2 H.P. Ball Bearing Capacitor Ginder.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the view!
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I tore the bench grinder apart and sandblasted the painted parts. We fixed the wiring and had the capacitor bench tested at our local electric motor shop. I replaced the bearings. I used a tumbler to clean up a lot of the small hardware. I wanted a more stationary base for the bench grinder so we built a new one that fastens directly to the floor. Overall the restoration turned out great and I am happy to have this bench grinder in my restoration shop. It should come in handy!

This is my new favorite restoration channel, forget Netflix of Amazon, a beer chips and this video, no talk all show and tell, the way I like it. Cant wait for a vintage bicycle restore, like a Raleigh or something or a vintage table fan.
Thanks much! Glad you enjoy it! I do have an old fan that needs redone at some point. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!
This press has worked like a charm for my projects czcams.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!
It is very stable!!
This was 32 minutes of free therapy for me, thank you 🙏🏻
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed! Thank you for watching!
I've probably watched a hundred different restorerers on YT and you're the first one I've seen lay down a good weld. Thank you
Thanks. My brother is the welder! I’ll tell him!
When things are built to a high quality standard, they are worth restoring and rebuilding. You will never see a better made grinder than this again, and now it’s restored it will last another lifetime. Outstanding!
Thank you very much! I appreciate that
I was hoping to see some flying tools.. So many tools, so little time... Very nice restoration.. color choices were perfect... Until next time, take care my friend...
Lol thanks much! Have a great day!
The classic block grinders are bulletproof. I have my grandfather's and use it without worry.
Very cool! Thanks for the comment!
Possibly the best balanced grinder ever made. When new it would spin for 3 minutes after being shut off. Mine bought in 1972 are both still running fine.
Awesome! Thanks for the comment!
I remember those old plugs from way back. Never thought I'd see one again. I've not thought about them in so many years. It brought back pleasant memories of my great-grandmother's house.
Awesome! Glad to bring back some good memories! Thanks for watching!
Really appreciate there being no music - this is a really cool restoration!
Thanks much! I appreciate it!
New Craftsman Tools to rebuild an old Craftsman Grinder. Nice
👍 thanks!
Watching items that were "Master Manufactured" being taken care of makes my heart "pitter-patter"!
Lol good deal! Thanks for watching!
Watch out that might mean a pacemaker is in your future! 😂
Love the old square body craftsman grinders. Yours was made by Packard Electric.
Ok thanks for the info! I appreciate it!
Great job, good for another 50 years.
As a boomer, it warms my heart watching a Craftsman tool restored to it's former glory.
Thanks much! Glad you enjoyed!
This looks like it’s from 70s maybe early 80s. Definitely looks like a model I remember seeing in the garage that my dad had. He use to brag craftsman for the lifetime warranty replacement. Guess we finally got the answer as to what lifetime they meant.
Regardless of what decade this grinder was made in, it was made back when they made things to last. Even as a kid the 80s was a hell of a time to be alive.
Gracias! Me recuerdo de mi juventud, trabajando con mi abuelo. Magnifica restoracion!
Muchas gracias!
ARTISAN FOR SURE, tanks for sharing...
Thanks so much! Appreciate it!
Eres un fiera tio
Thanks you! 😂
Good job bud you really got you stuff together i would have gave up on the electrical part. The part i liked the most was when you took a photo of the electrical stuff and you put “for my memory” i found out that that was the funniest part of this video😂
🤣Thank you very much! I appreciate it!
Same here
I am trying to get my own You tub channel started. Two projects I want to do is one, I have an old school die grinder with the flexlible shaft in the original wood box from the 40s more than likely . I bought it off of Ebay from and estate of a jeweler . I am going to do a youtube video on that and I also have an American Made solvent tank I am going to restore and also to that on on CZcams its probably over 50 years old .I already have the pump and found and American made parts cleaning brush for it too. I love old school tools they will never make things like this again and love to see them restored the pride and craftsmanship is dead and gone and will never be back . Great job I love it
Awesome Mad Man Mechanics! And you should totally start a channel! The die grinder sounds neat. Good luck on the channel and your projects! Keep me posted! Thanks for the comment and for the view! Have a blessed day!
@@RebuiltRestored Wow I havent had anybody give me that much support in so long I forgot what is was like! Been down in the dumps with the cold icy weather and I havent been able to get any of my projects worked on and it is driving me nuts. I have been trying to get my Chevelle restored and that is shut down too. I am doing a frame off. Its a factory Heavy Chevy they only made for two years its a matching number factory four speed car. I want to do the rest on You tube if everything goes good. You really made my day I cannot thank you enough you really cheered me up and have given me incentive to launch my youtube. I am very nervous I am still learning editing but all the youtubers tell me the same thing. Hey we were nervous too and we just did that first post and that is all you need to do. My first video is going to be about a Jet Ski it never had the oil changed on it and the oil filter was frozen on there and I could not get it off even with a pair of huge channel locks. No room I had to take the inside of the ski apart and half the part of the engine apart to get to the oil filter it kicked my ass. This is going to be my first post. Your reply really cheered me up and I really needed it . Had three people in the past week treat me really bad so I was really down in the dumps. I need to move out of here so bad the people are horrible here and I am working on that too. Thank you thank you for cheering me up you made my day dude I really needed this ! 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
Better than new!!!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
Just like the title says "Awesome Restoration of Rusted Grinder". Great work man!
Thanks very much!
Well done, good approach to business😊😊
Thank you very much!
I have the same Craftsman Bench Grinder my father bought in the 60's.
Very cool! These are pretty sweet. Beefy machines. Thanks for watching and have a great week!
Yet another great video. You are spoiling us. Oh but the the red vixen of a trolly jack has stolen my soul. You are the chosen one. You are the Captain of restoration. May your tools get bigger and brighter. May you get many many sponsors
Thank you very much! Glad you are enjoying! However, I am still learning! :) have a great day! 👍
That metallic rustoleum color was nice!
Thank you. It’s kind of on the idea of the original
Back when Craftsman Tools were good.
True! They don’t make ‘em like the use too! Thanks for the comment!
Back when the logo had "MADE IN THE USA" on it😂
I like the sign on the wall.
Thanks much! I appreciate it!
great job...i only have one little thing to add...unless you want to blast the paint on the wall behind it..some square tubing and some container to catch the debris from grinding would be a last finnishing touch :)
Thanks for the advice! I thought about adding some dust collection at some point and yes that would keep the wall
Much cleaner! Thanks for the comment!
Very nice work
Thank you!
Craftsman still my favorite tool brand. Grew up going to sears with my dad to buy tools regularly. Great job restoring that bench grinder. 👍🏼
I remember going to Sears as well! 👍 thanks for watching! Have a great day!
Yeah, Sears was my favorite store at the mall for most of my life.
@@unkjasonsuch a good store. As a kid, I was all over that place.
I like your close-up work with the camera.
Thank you!
John 3:16 the only true restoration! Love it.
True! thanks for the comment!
Very good job. Love to see old tools restored and put back into service. I wish I had a metal lathe and milling machine, but too late now. I'm over 70, no time to begin learning. My dad took a machine shop course in high school and at one time could operate a metal lathe, but I do woodworking and cannot begin to weld or do anything with metal. Oh well, maybe next incarnation?
I would like a lathe as well however, I don’t know to operate one. And it’s not to late to learn! Thanks for the comment! Have a great day!
Jaja buen comentario saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾 nunca es tarde vamos arriba abrazo
NEVER too late! If you have space then do it.
It's never too late buddy. You're 70 but commenting on CZcams videos so you're very capable. Find something in your area like a machine shop or college campus or somewhere where you can donate some time and also learn the skill that you want to learn. Go do it. Ask the worst they can do is say no. Then go ask again. You can do it.
That is a nice grinder and stand. Love the old craftsman line of shop tools. All cast iron solid. I really hope you do more of this craftsman line of shop tools.
Thank you very much! The next video isn’t a craftsman but who knows in the future! 👍👍
İş makineleri ve endüstriyel dekoratif ürünler restorasyonu izlemek keyifli
Thank you!
Amazing skills and soothing presentation. Maddening organization and lay-out. Cinematography, sequencing, and directing: excellent. Haskell Wexler would blush. I too always keep my torch running in the locker. Never know when you need it STAT ! I can almost hear your narration, but maybe that's just because we think alike. The Greatest Love Story Ever Told (TGLSET) indeed. Thanks for your witness to the living and loving God. Restoration forever.
You did a fantastic job. Good the lamp shade wasn't damaged. The cord plug is top quality. Always important to have solid safe electrical connections. A Craftsman restored a Craftsman tool.
Thanks! And yes the lamp shade was in great shape! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year to you!
Awesome job! Really enjoyed watching your work! ✌Greetings from Italy 😉
Thank you very much! Greetings to you as well! Have a great week! 👍
100 ani va munci după restaurație. Bravo
Thanks very much!
really first rate restoration made me a subscriber
I appreciate that! A very Happy New Year to you!
Um grande profissional 🎉😂
Thank you very much! I appreciate it!
😊
Nice restoration of the old grinder & glad you kept the original factory plate that they riveted on the front of it & the other grinder wheels that was on it is still good, you can keep them back for spares & that's nice that you put a wire wheel on the other side of the grinder
Thanks much! And thanks so much for watching! Have a great day!
@@RebuiltRestored You're welcome
Hang some small, cheep household HVAC air filters on the wall behind the vents. They will keep dust and debris from flying everywhere and keep things a bit cleaner on the wall as time goes by, and they can be replaced easily as they dirty up... They could be a fire hazard if your spraying sparks, so consider that, but if it just dust they could keep things much cleaner around the bench grinder.
Nice restoration
Awesome! Thanks for the advice and for watching! Have a great day!
The already lit torch in your chem cabinet was a JUMP SCARE for me!😱🫣🤔😂
Lol I didn’t mean to scare ya! 😂
Can't believe I had to scroll down to 11 comments before I got to someone talking about a lit torch in the cupboard
I actually have this exact same grinder, was my grandfather's. Made many knives and swords with it, this one will definitely serve you well in your shop.
That is awesome! Thanks for the comment!
The only things missing are the dust collection plenum, switch isolation washer and rubber switch cover, and the saftey cover for the light bulb . Good restoration job.
Thanks much! A safety cover for the light is a good idea. 👍
I have the same model Craftsman 1 horsepower bench grinder.
Nicely done. One suggestion: replace the capacitor next time. Electrolytic capacitors dry out over time and need to be replaced. That old one could fail at any time.
Thanks for the advice!
Awesome how you bring old back to life, love the recycling ben!
I had one just like that one - A blast from the past.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Another amazing Job !! waiting on the little truck , enjoyed it thank you
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!
That torch in the cabinet awesome.
Letting it idle
It always makes me happy to see an old or antique being saved. well done, very nice work.
Thanks much! I appreciate it. I plan to keep this one in my restoration shop! Merry Christmas!

I love how methodical you are in restoring things. Great work.
Thanks much!
LOVE the OLD machines - Usually FAR better quality than the crap they build now!
Very true. They don’t make ‘em like they use too. Thanks for the view!
Suggestion? I personally would have replaced the capacitor. I like to restore old tools and actually USE them. If that beauty gets put back to work, there's a good chance the capacitor will not last. Those old wet capacitors just go bad over time. A modern replacement would be fairly cheap.
Just my opinion. That and $5 might get you a cup of coffee.
Thanks for your suggestion! I had this bench tested and it was good. I can replace it if I ever need to…. I do enjoy coffee ☕️ Thanks for watching! 👍👍
Wonderful job on this old machine! They sure don't build them like this anymore.
Thank you very much! Yes, this was built well.
So good. What a masterpiece.
Thank you very much and thanks for watching!
Great work as always. Love that you use restored tools to uh...restore tools. Ha ha
Thanks you! 👍
Needless to say, this video is amazing.
Thanks very much!
A remarkable rebuild and restoration. I too restore tools rather than buy new and can appreciate the effort you put in. With brain and hand, a job masterfully done! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much! Keep up the good work and have a great day!
Beautiful restoration. I restored my block grinder too, but did not go nearly as in depth as you did. I really like how you stuck with the original color scheme.
Thank you! And I actually get mixed feedback on the color but I like it. Thanks for watching 👍
@RebuiltRestored You will never please everyone with color choice, but you just can't beat original if you ask me. Keeping original color makes something look new, drastic changes like red, blue, green, etc. screams repaint!
I could not agree more!
Good job. Looks real nice
Great video and great job! Thanks for sharing! I put likes
Thank you very much!
top mania God bless all life
thank you
Thanks much! God Bless!
rly nice restoration
Thanks you very much!
Yes, young man; I indeed did watch the video you posted of the ratchet restortion. I had watched a few of your videos because I am mostly prone to watch hand tool restoration videos; but it was until today, while watchig the ratchet restration one that I noticed the message at the bottom line of your chanel sign; beautifull one, as well as the job you do with old tools. Warm regards fron Mexico. Zech 10:1
Thanks you very much and thanks for watching! God Bless
Satisfaction, Nice Job!!!
Thank you very much!
5:06 Me too...me too.
Also, if you notice the scanning black bars in your footage at 20:19-20:25 you can get rid of them by adjusting your shutter speed to a divisor of 60 if you're in the US (1/60, 1/120, 1/180, etc) or 50 if you're elsewhere in the world (1/50, 1/100, 1/150, etc). This corresponds to 60 Hz or 50 Hz frequency of the electricity. There's also some cameras that have an anti-flicker setting that automatically adjust for it!
Thanks. I appreciate the advice. I will have to try to adjust that. Thanks so much! Have a blessed day!
Hermoso simplemente hermoso. Manito arriba y suscribo. Gracias por compartir tu restauración. Saludos desde Luján Buenos Aires Argentina.....

@@RebuiltRestored Your welcome. You did a great job
Beautiful work, and the torch was funny. :)
😂 thank you very much!
Wow, the difference in sound between old and new bearings
Thanks!
I need such a machine
Thanks! It is handy!
Nice job. These projects (and videos) take an awful lot of time. Much respect. Most my videos are substantially smaller projects, and they still take a while!
Thanks @shanesgettinghandy! I appreciate it! Thanks for the view.
Hermosa máquina.
Thank you very much!
Good job sir. She now has a new lease on life.
Thank you very much! Happy New Year!
@@RebuiltRestored Happy New Year to you too.
Brilliant work. Be advised however that it is necessary to have thick paper discs either side of the grinding wheel so the metal washers don't bear directly onto the wheel. Prevents cracks!!
Awesome! Thanks for the tip! 👍
I can't believe you found one so complete and for that price, what a find. Someday I hope to be so lucky. Beautifully done.
Thanks much! I’m happy with it! Have a great day!
I have the same grinder, not quite so complete, but gave $35.00 for mine. They are out there but you need a local seller, shipping would kill you.
Shipping not too bad. I sold one from PA and shipped it to TX. $40.
I have the same grinder without the light
Awesome rebuilt!
Thank you very much!
This is my favorite tool in your shop. I had seen it in other videos and did not know it was a restoration.
Thanks! This is a nice unit to have for sure. Thanks for the comment!
Sure turned out nice!! Great job.
Fantastic job. I love to watch videos that don’t have a bunch of unnecessary talking. Good skills too. I’m a new subscriber for sure. Thanks.
What a pleasure to watch. To see this tired old machine but still with life in it bought back to its former glory. Well done Paul uk 🇬🇧
Thanks Paul! I appreciate it! Have a great New Year! Blessings!
I love old tools. Keep saving them!
Thanks! I have projects in the works. Thanks for watching!
JAJAJA que bueno el carrito de reciclaje, me ha gustado buen video.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed😁
Excellent work. I enjoy the fact they you took time to do the best paint matches that you could and used proper rivets for the data plate. So many times I see people use pop-rivets for this.
Thanks much! I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Very nice! A good bench grinder with wire wheel, polishing wheel, and grinding wheel combination should be a must for any shop.
Thank you! And yes, I am happy to add this one to my shop! Have a great day!
I’m here for the next cool restoration, and of course to see the mouse.

Great restoration, great verse.
Thanks!
To be honest they don’t make that quality any more I wish to have one like in my work shop good job my friend 🙏
True! Thanks for commenting!
Amazing restoration job, keep.up the good work 👍
Thanks much!
That grinder came out really nice. I wasn’t sure if the finish was in the paint or in the metal before you stripped it. But the hammered finish paint made it look good. I have my grandfathers old Black and Decker bench grinder. Still works fantastic. When I got it, I cleaned it up and replaced the power cord. The original one was all dried out and very brittle. Plus it wasn’t grounded. The new cord was the same size wire with a ground and I drilled and tapped a boss on the bottom of the grinder to ground it. Seeing how yours came out, I might do an overhaul on it soon. Anyway, great video!
Very cool! It’s always cool when you can keep a family tool and keep using it. Paint it up nice and don’t ever sell it! Thanks for sharing and for the view! Have a great day! 👍
@@RebuiltRestored Thank you for your comments. I really have no intention of getting rid of it. Much like the Craftsman grinder you gave a new life to, my old Black and Decker is built the same way. Back then, these companies made good quality products. Unfortunately, today the newer stuff isn’t built as well.
Genial...!!!...Una gran Restauración...ji ji ji... Saludossss.
Thank you! I appreciate the view!
Awesome restore buddy, quite fancy one of those beasts in my workshop, last longer than the ones we get these days that's for sure. We'll done ✔️
