For the record, He is 3 now and even he knows the lock is there, he haven't learn to open it, because you have to lift the lever and pull . a toddler can not do that. :P at least mine.

@@ManBearPigJake try cardinal gates. It has a “lobster claw” lock, then you have to pull up and swing to open. A 3 action gate is a must have for these crazy toddlers
Ended up costing $70. But that's probably inflation. Great video though, very helpful.

It also ended up costing around $70 for the wood, 45 for stain and clear coat for me. Very easy to follow instructions and looks just like it does in the video. I think my stairs are wider though so I needed more wood

But is it difficult to open if you're going up the stairs? I want to build some like this but I have a 5 year old daughter who obviously knows how to go up and down stairs so I want her to be able to go up and easily unlatch the gate going up the said stairs.
I have seen people adding a string from the front you can pull the string and the latch will automatically open.

Thought it was funny when you move the gate to outer edge and not say anything LOL. I was like how are you going to put lock on and then you moved gate without saying anything.

What size nails?
1” or 1 1/4” but I recommend using glue also
