    I never get enough of these chipping technique vids. There have been too many rounds where I'm inside 40 yds and end up taking 4-6 more shots to end the hole. It's SO frustrating!!!

    For the majority of my chip shots, I use a 9 iron. Was taught by a great teacher 30 years ago. I get up and down allllll the time. Like 60 to 70% of the time. Even from a long distance (like 30 yards) I use it. The only time I don't is when there is too much rough in front of me etc. I hold the heel up slightly off the ground so it doesn't get stuck on the shot. And using the 9 iron all the time I have gotten real good at it (as opposed to using several different clubs). Works for me.

      It’s basically a chipper. There was one hole I could never par at my local course and some dude told me to pitch up with a 9 and it landed 3 feet from the hole for a par.
      I practice the 9 around the green all the time now

    Spot on MSG. I tend to use PW more often on the course I play. But I’m comfortable with my higher lofted clubs too. The tip about the slightly open face is great. Keeps from digging and uses the bounce.

    Another great video Matt! In order to simplify my chipping from fairway type lies I go back to 7:30 or 8:00 and which club I use depends on how far the pin is from me, the contour of the green and if it is uphill or downhill. My most used clubs are Lob, SW, PW and 9 iron. If I am in rough I will slightly open my club face and take a bit of a longer backswing.

    I can play all the short game shots you teach and am a 6.5 hdcp but for the higher handicappers (just a thought here) I don’t agree with taking more of a swing with a 58-60, thats where they get in trouble around the greens. You should focus on teaching them to hit the short swing, back of stance,50- 54 bump and run , putt-like- whenever it is at all possible. The GOAT 🐯always teaches get the ball running on the green like a putt as much as you can using the 9 iron . Pitch , 50- 54 . Thanks as always. Really enjoyed and have already been using the weight forward 60 degree spinner around the greens and love it.
    Keep up the awesome work.

    I know a lot of people who prefer a low or high iron for a low flighted shot and that shot is important but once you start playing tough greens I can’t stress how important it is to hit your non A/P wedges with check on it anywhere from 20-50 yards. Grab your 60 and 56 and practice those short swings so that you can take as much difficulty out of the green as possible. Getting the ball to hit and sit especially when you’re on the fairway and you can really nip it is invaluable for making a tough green non existent. You simply cannot trust the roll out on every shot. Being deadly from 60 yards gives you more 1 putts for birdie while saving par a lot

    It’s interesting, Phil says the EXACT opposite of this. Hands lead. Weight forward. Ball either off back foot or front depending on if you wanna hit low or high. Guess it just depends on what you’re comfortable with.

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro Před 11 měsíci

      This isn't all that different from Phil's high shot. Phil's low shot technique takes skill that most amateurs don't have. Exposes the leading edge a lot so you have to really nip it perfectly to avoid a chunk or skull. I love that shot but the average golfer shouldn't be trying it.

    The stroke is: upper arms tight to chest. Pelvic rotation, with soft hand grip! A putting stroke without some truncal rotation won’t deliver! Slight open face on club allows bounce to assist! Still great chipping, ball 3-4’ off hole, always, so very hard to do!

    My course has all the greens up on mounds to help with drainage. I always just play to the front and if I miss, it’s short with an easy bump and run. BUT I can’t find any videos on how to play my miss when it’s off the side, that always has me scoring a bogey if not worse.. ruining my chances for sub 80. So HOW!?!? Do you play a shot on the side or at the bottom of the hill, when your ball is sitting deep, to land it soft on the green when the pin is on the short side??? There’s also the areas that are lacking grass because of the pines and flopping a shot always seems to get chunky and a bump up the hill is too hard to even judge the pace through the rough.
    Hope to figure it out someday!

    Hey Matt. My chipping sucks which is why I'm watching your vids, however please do me a favor. Stop going to the lovely Greenbriars of the world. Find a crappy local municipal course with bare lies adjacent to the greens. You know, the spots where the idiots park their carts and grind the grass down to a few millimeters. That's what I need help with as my local course loses grass cover during winters and the often-dry summers here in Australia. Cheers mate.

      Just go to a local pro and invest in a pack of ten lessons focused on driver. Driver is the easy part, basically none of the fundamentals change. Your feet are flat, the club head is large, the ball is teed. You just have to figure out a driver swing that works and learn how to repeat it.

  • @brendanscully5787

If you practice them literally every club can have a roll in chipping. Get good with 3-4 clubs and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to play diff shots around the green.
