  • Hey All, wow, What an exciting time in our van build process. Today, we are working on our Upper Cabinets. This has been a really daunting project but we took a very methodical process and are really happy with the way our cabinets came out.
    We had three goals for this project. The cabinets had to be very strong, very light and very secure. We used different thicknesses of Baltic Birch plywood, and crossbraces made of select pine. The combination of these woods really helped us to meet our goals. In this video, we will show you exactly how we built our cabinets…..how we did our joinery, cutting, planning, etc.
    We hope you will watch this video and use the info the make your cabinet build go more smoothly. We’ve done all the hard work for you….so just follow along.
    If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below, and please give a thumbs-up if you enjoyed this video and found in helpful to you. Subscribe to our channel to follow along on our entire van build series.
    Blessings to you 

    Thank you for showing us how to square upper cabinets to the floor of the van! No other youtubers had shown us how to do it! :)

    I find the most helpful van videos are the ones that display actual problem solving rather than a heavily edited sequence that only vaguely mentions the trouble spots. As we all know, building in a van is all about navigating the unexpected and that is where communal knowledge is key. Thanks again, been enjoying watching your videos and seeing your skills get even more refined as time goes on.

    Love your videos. We are building out a 2500 also and love the additional info you have that the other videos I watch (and I watch a lot) don’t have. The added bonus is the respect and willingness you have to teach, encourage, and support your wife in the participation of the van build. Love it all!

      Hi Roxanne. I am glad you are enjoying the videos. As for Tania, she has put in a ton of time researching what we are doing and learning to use tools that she has never even heard of. And her personality is just wonderful...she is so engaging and loving. Thanks so much for your support and please reach out if we can help at all with your build.

    I am so impressed!!! I just found you, and your channel has been so helpful as I am just starting my van build. As a 64 year young retired woman, I am not sure what made me think I can do a self build. As I watch you, you really break each task down, and you don't rush through. Do you have a Facebook page where I can also follow you?

      Hi Linda. So sorry for the late reply. So thrilled that the videos have been helpful to you. We are in the final stages of our build. ....and its been both exciting and terrifying the whole time. But you can do this....for sure....and if we can be of any help.. please reach out. No common FB page for the van

    Another job done to perfection! Your build is going to be so beautiful when it’s done. I found the same frustrations when working with play dough- I finally resorted to dabbing a little bit of poster paint (washable) on the riv nut and positioning the cabinet (or whatever I’m mounting) in the right spot, pushing down on the cabinet and painted nut, and praying😊. It’s worked so far! Really nice job guys. Merry Christmas!

      Hi Trish....I have used the paint trick on other areas of the van build as well...It works pretty well. The Play-Doh thing was certainly frustrating....But I does seem to work well also....after enough tries. I am hoping to get to the benches and the electrical before we lose our latitude with the HOA at the end of the year. I have had to come up to NJ for a few days but looking forward to getting back to work :) An early Merry Christmas to you as well :)

    Wet nail polish on the bolt heads would have done the trick first try.

    Can make these lighter by not adding a top and back skin if one is okay with the ceiling and wall of van filling this role.

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, we thought about that....but thought the added back and top added very little weight but made them look much better

    Great idea with attaching directly to the frame. We are in the middle of a build now and have our design down, but finding all sorts of useful tips like that from you guys. Also wondering if you're a network or sysadmin guy now :P

    Love the music. What's the title/artist? Also, do you use epidemic music for the soundtrack?

      @marctania2349  Před rokem

      Hi Keith, Which part of the music are you referring to? It's all from Epidemic Sound. We use pretty much the same 8 to 10 tracks for all our videos. Hopefully, you find the music beneficial and not distracting. At least thats how we hope it is.

    Marc, what is the dimension of your cabinet in the dinette area? 😊

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  Před rokem

      Hi Jeff, I am actually in NJ and not near the van....but I think the dimension of that cabinet is roughly 11.5 inches tall and about 10 inches deep by about 45 inches long

    Hard to get baltic birch because it comes from Russia and companies like Rockler have stopped importing it.

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  Před rokem

      Yeah....we have Peach State Lumber here that carries it by the truckload. Most other places have ditched it. I really wish there was a domestic alternative to it....but its just rock solid stuff. All my other plywood has bowed and warped but the BB is still straight and true
