    Hey top hat gaming man, there is a French guy who spent a few years of his life checking Nintendo's archives, meeting former employees etc. gathering precious information on our favourite consoles that he later published in a few books. He recently published one on the history of the game boy and you should definitely check it out as he made some groundbreaking discoveries. His name is Florent Gorges and there are a few interviews of him on YT if you are curious to see what I mean.

      Its retro gaming, who the f**k do you think you are, it should ALL be about the NES, even though we pronounced it as the word 'nes' instead of saying the letters out loud, and like 8 people bought one.
      No I'm messing with you it died on its arse and meant NOTHING to the UK gaming market, 99% of the country only knew Mario before Mario World on the SNES (which also said like a word, and not the letters) from the cartoons and playing Donkey Kong conversions on other consoles and micro computers. But those Americans ALWAYS get their piss-flaps in a knot if you don't pretend its the most important thing ever and saved the industry from the great videogame crash (which basically didn't happen, just Toys R Us and macys stopped stocking Atari clones one Christmas in north America because you had to sell the games so low priced it was more profitable to put more Star Wars dolls out on the shelf.)

    Another quality video that really appeals to me, thank you. I love the Game Boy or more accurately totally obsessed! I only planned on getting all the games I had as a child to relive the fun times. Then everything went rather hazy and I looked at my games and found I now had 621 games..........although i'm not complaining. I love the simplicity of most of the games that can be played in 1/2 hour spurts to the RPG's that need a lot longer! There is a great Game Boy community out there, where we can be geeks and chat everything Game Boy :-)

    This was primarily a list of key games with a timeline accompanying it. In the director’s cut I’d like to hear much more of the behind the scenes development details rather than the rundown of games. I think you did a fair job selecting the important games. Don’t get me wrong! It would just be interesting to hear a bit more about the gameboy itself.

    ---> playing at school... Dadaelian Opus, Baseball, Tennis, Tetris & Super Mario Land.
    ---> Final Fantasy Legend !! amazing.
    ---> Winning a Game Boy in a Super Mario Bros 3 competition.
    It truly is amazing what great games came along for that handheld & I'm really not so surprised it demolished all competition.

    Really great video and look at the game boy systems, I never had my own gameboy until the Gba but used to play on my friends origional gameboy at the time playing most of the classic games.
    The systems I had at the time was the snes and megadrive, but unfortunately never had the super gameboy either at the time as I saw it as a device for someone to play their existing gb games on.
    I have a big collection of gameboy games now and still have the memories of playing the games my friend had on his!

    ... but I gotta nitpick. 7:54 "dame" is a Japanese word, so it's not read like an english one! It's pronounced more like "dah-meh"

  • @ZeidKhan
    @ZeidKhan Před 6 lety +1

    I laughed at "dame game" when you pronounced it like the English word meaning "woman." The Japanese word is pronounced "dah-meh" where "da" is like "Jeffrey DAhmer" and "me" sounds like "MEmories." The word means "bad" or "no good" in English.
    Also, the Wario word "Warui" is pronounced "wah-roo-E" where "wa" is like "where's WAldo" and "rui" is like "roo" from "KangaROO" and the letter "E" but the 2 are meant to be said fast, so "roo-E" or "rui" almost like a single syllable. So it's a 2 syllable word that's actually made up of 3 syllables.
    Great video btw, and thanks for the bit of a laugh as well. Made me smile. =)

    The WonderSwan was a nice little experiment, but it had a major flaw. Ghosting happened on the original GameBoy, but they found ways to make it less annoying. The WonderSwan though, well... with its higher resolution and all its shades of grey it was blurry as fuck, sometimes to the point of the screen being an incomprehensible mess. The color model fixed these problems, but the original was pretty bad looking.

    FYI, Gunpei is pronounced like "goon pay". Whenever you see his name, just think about hiring goons.
    Some others have already commented on the "dame" thing. I'll just add that Japanese doesn't have silent "e"s
    Also, put Japanese words into Google Translate and there is a play button that will pronounce them for you. That pronunciation should be correct as long as you've selected Japanese as the input language. (The translations it gives you, however, are not reliably accurate.)

    • @TopHatGamingManChannel
      @TopHatGamingManChannel  Před 6 lety

      Thing is, I do not really understand all these 'mispronouncing' comments. I am English so why would I need to pronounce words the same way as someone from Japan? Americans speak English as their first language, but do not pronounce most words the English way.

    • @ChicagoMel23

    I'd like to address the Metroid II: Return of Samus section, because I'm actually playing Metroid: Samus Returns right now. Really, as I'm watch this video. While the fanmade Another Metroid 2 Remake, aka AM2R, is fantastic... Metroid: Samus Returns is at least just as good, if not somewhat better. Samus Returns seems easier than the original and AM2R, but comes with way too many fun extras. In my humble opinion, Samus Returns is just slightly better than AM2R. While the latter is far superior to the original game, if only because of improved tech and a lot of creativity in adapting more modern Metroid side scroller style to Metroid II. Still they're all great and worth playing, especially for insatiable Metroid fans. Also fantastic content Top Hat Gaming Man!

    For me this the 2nd best Nintendo System, EVER.
    First was the SNES, 2nd is this. NES the third.
    N64 (as a owner when it was new) was just crap... and the Gamecube was meh for me...
    Wii was a joke, such as the WiiU... Switch is a novelty but not quite a Good system in my view.
    Shame how for me, Nintendo only made 3 good systems that were either competitive or ahead of the curve.
    Also before someone tell me that i forgot the GBC, GBA and the DSes.. The GBC was too outdated for me to be GOOD, it only sold due to the pokemania. The GBA to be honest, didn't impress me, specially with the PSP... and the DSes, those came when Nintendo only invested on small childs or nostalgia cashin. Not my cup of tea..
