I sent my 660 off to be thoroughly rebuilt & turned up after a year of running it bone stock. The performance gained simply wasn't worth the pain of it not starting, running like crap in the winter, overheating in the summer and using more fuel than the chipper. Maybe I'm just getting old but I don't even run modified exhausts anymore. The manufacturer knows best imo.
Yes I have had similar experiences. I’ve had a couple gnarly hopped up saws but as a rule I don’t trust them.

Another great video!! I loved your comments and opinions. As well as all the great information about the two saws. Just what i was looking for. I have two souped up saws and 5 other stock saws. Love all of em! My two hot rods i have to say have been amazing. Stihl 461, and a little 346XP. That little husky is a rippin little sob man! I have a 16" sugi LW bar and run stihl .325 RS chisel chain. It's pretty impressive.
I can see both sides of the equation...completely happy with my stock saws as well. No need to run out and get everything hopped up. My ol 281 Husky is bone stock. Rock hard compression and just has the cool old school big block stock sound. And that is definitely a down side to modding your saw is the extreme noise from opening up the muff's. I actually went back to stock on my 461 with a couple small holes in it is all. Opening up that sucker was like unleashing the bowels of hell man!! Way too obnoxious!!
I don’t like loud mufflers, and I need the reliably of a new stock saw often times it’s a mile walk to where I’m cutting. It’s not fun if the saw doesn’t start.

Well I’ve bought a second 592, the first one ended up having some factory issues which are currently being repaired by dealer under warranty. But I love the 592s
I do spacing for a living and I love this saw. I use a 36”xlite bar, so I never have to bend over.
What is spacing?
Stay safe out on your jobs over the last 40 years I have had 5 friends get killed or seriously injured logging 1 paralyzed from the neck down and my really good Dave was killed less than 3 weeks from retirement all from widowmakers. I have 3 huskies I use in my firewood business only when my logger brings me cull logs that are way to big for my processor and I have to take them for the price he gives them to me. My 1st friend that got hurt is still alive but has been crippled from getting hit in the head 40 years ago they did a show on the land rescue they did for him that whole thing that happened to him made me not to want to be a logger stay safe thanks for the videos I moved up to a 562 xp from watching your videos I am going back going back to the shop and get a bigger saw and the 455 and 460 will retire after 10 years they need a rest

I have the 592 for 1 year cuts fast and has torque also run 572 it will do a good job also , both units have proven to be good , for me .

I love my 572XPG with 24" bar tons of power and keeps my fingers toasty in the winter!!
@joeshmow1583 the heated handles are the ticket, after many years of chainsaws my hands love it in cold weather, husky has had this artic package for along time, only available in northern states,
I've got a few saws that I cut white oak with and they are ported saws. My latest ported saw is a 592xp and it's crazy good. Starts first pull every time after it has been started in the morning. I run a 8 pin sprocket on it and a 28 inch bar and it does great. Very easy on fuel compared to my 500i. My ported echo 7310 also starts first pull and no issues and cuts very good with 28 inch bar. This is with 90 octane non ethanol fuel because no matter what chainsaw you're using for work, you don't need race fuel. I'd run 87 in mine if I could find it local without ethanol. Nice timber and nice cutting!

I always open up the oiler holes on the bar They are way too small and I never seem to get enough oil on a 24+ inch bar. The majority of the oil drips down the side of the side of the saw and ends up in the bottom of my transport case and not on the bar. I don’t have an adjuster screw on some of my saws and it wouldn’t matter anyways if the oil can’t get on the chain.

Can you make a video showing how you s take the stock chain and sharpen it according to your preference and how you modify the bar and so on...thanks. If you have already done that, my apologies, I missed it.

As far as stock vs "built", here's one old man's opinion: for every modification you make, your "service load" or time you spend servicing/working on your saw goes up.
I won't say that built saws don't have value in the woods or that one is better than the other; just be willing to live with the tradeoffs.
Oh yeah, my 395 is retired, due to the 592xp.
But again, I'm just one old man...

I been runina small group of ported saws in my every day line up. Ive personlly not had any reliabilty issues wit the 3 i been beatn on day 2 day 🤔 but i have heard of people havin problems.

Have you personally cut with a Stihl 661 and if so, which saw would you say cuts faster regardless of species and/or diameter? I already know the 592xp is .25hp more power, torque but would like to hear your honest thoughts.

Honestly I haven’t run a stihl saw since 2009ish I bought one 660
I’m of the mindset that stihl saws just don’t come close to the husky’s
With that being said I’m a 395 guy because the seam to run faster and have more torque the the 660s
I have no experience with 661s and honestly I’ve only put a day and a half on the 592 and I’m taking it back to the shop I bought it from because of a carb issue

@@Good.Fellers Sorry to hear but I think you should be covered for at least 3 years with the Husky. Stihl only offer 6 months on their pro saws which is just a complete joke and there's no match to the 592xp. The 592xp is still a saw in the works and will take time to get all its bugs and kinks fixed but I have faith in it.

Has Husqvarna strengthened the top cover? My 592XP and many others have an issue where the front of the top cover hammers the cylinder cover cooling fins from vibrations.

Have you tried the Stihl 661C, what are your thoughts ?
I have never been around a 661, the last stihl I ran was a 660 and it was over a decade ago. It was a ok saw, but in my region all the timber cutters run huskies.
@@Good.Fellers Hubby says you can run any saw as long as it starts and the chain is always sharp. An expensive saw with a dull chain & hard to start makes him want to sledge hammer the unit.
@melissatuason2395 a saw that doesn’t start is worthless. As far as sharpness a file can take care of that.
Hey Brother, you run for President, it appears that your evaluation on things are unbiased but calculated in a sense that you have tried something that works. And You are pretty honest about long term uncertainties. Now that is being flat out honest, you must have some pretty firm convictions about your life, family & business morals because it is transparent.

@melissatuason2395 I’m sure there’s plenty of loggers out there that are great, there just busy working and not making videos. That’s why I started the channel. No one that does what I do is showing it at all.

I still prefer the 395, but I also love my 390, I feel like the 390 doesn't get nearly enough love.

390 is the best saw available for an actual faller.
@@bennohels3613 I’ve known a lot of timber cutters and only one ran a 390 and he recommended not buying one. Then he went back to 395s.

How much do you pay your production company?
I’m not sure if this is a insult or a compliment. My skidder man films and I edit, the audio is terrible in this video as I made some changes after it and have more coming forward.
Also if it made sense to use a production company I would do it in a heart beat but I actually tried to hire two different filmers but the price and talent didn’t match.

What species of trees grow in the bush?
@@Good.Fellers Here in Tassie its mostly varied species of Gum, Swamp and White being the hardest on saws, Stringy Bark and Peppermint being best for firewood, some Arcacia like Blackwood and Wattle, also very hard wood, it varies in mainland states but lots of different gum varieties all over

My 585 I just picked up is the shit!
I milled a walnut with a 36“ bar and it screamed through it!
Had a 500i Stihl and traded it in.
Worst saw I ever owned….lotsa problems with the fuel injector and then the pump…Crap!

Tension screw location is user convenience nothing to do with ergonomics....full wrap and weight/ balance is ergonomics

@@Good.Fellers if you are tensioning your chain the saw is off And not in use to do so. There for ergo has nothing to do with what you said in the vid. I liked the video and all just stating a oversight.
@@SuperBertR Adjusting the chain is part of the running the saw, so since it’s more efficient and comfortable for the operator I think it would be more ergonomic by definition.

The issue with that saw is that the 592 costs roughly $600 more than the Stihl 661 around here. So there is just no way the Husqvarna can outperform the Stihl by that much. Especially since all the Husqvarna saws I met personally (about a dozen) all had carburator and starting issues. Just like their Jonsered clones. My boss actually always carried one extra saw with him just because of those issues. But he is so much of a Husqvarna fanboy that he only bought Stihl saws for his employees and one extra Husqvarna for himself...
Btw, do yourself a favor and wear safety gear. Especially if you make public videos.

Ok, just to be clear I don’t care what anyone else runs. With that being said I personally don’t run stihl saws because as a young timber cutter the guys I looked up to ran 395s. I wondered why. The answer to that question is the stihl O66 was slow and clumsy compared to a 395. I was hooked after switching from a 066. Now after years of running 395s I’m starting to run 592s. I’m not sure where your at in the world but that price difference seams odd. Anyway do what ever you want and I’ll do the same.
