The Man had an incredible talent and the gift of being able to touch people with his unique style and he played "from the heart". Plus, he was a very wonderful human being. People this special come along only once in a very long while. I am just thankful I was around at a time when I got a chance to see him perform live. It's great to be able to see him perform on You tube. God Bless you, Boots.
You hear all kinds of talk about other great jazz sax players but no one has the unique, polished sound and personality of style that Boots had. Been listening to him since I started playing g sax at age 7.🎷😎
Boots Randolph has always been one of my favorites! He played a lot of ' back up ' for recording stars such as Brenda Lee. Some how Boots, keep play forever!!
Absolutely awesome. I play sax myself and for years I only ever thought of Boots and Yakety Sax but as the years go on I find more and more tunes where I think the definitive version is by Boots Randolph. This is one of them.
Gawd, he had the mix of the old greats, the clear sounds of Eddie Lockjaw Davis and Coleman Hawkins,, and the modern country sounds to boot, pardon the pun, LOL.. Such a hard place to be in, in those days.
He sure played the whole horn. Listening to Boots was a "guilty pleasure" for me back in the 60s and 70s. He wasn't "cool" but I listened and unconsciously modeled my own playing on his. And in his last album, recorded when he was 79, he showed that he had bebop chops too. But he was at his best on the ballads, I think.
@@derrickwalker4818 Me too. I was getting ready to start band and I wanted to play the flute. My mom took me to see Boots and I forgot what a flute even was. Amazing performer and musician!! 🎷💜
I was working in Vegas 1969-74. heard Boots live at the Sahara Hotel every time i could. Just a great Saxophonist. I myself am a very so called modern player, but really respect people who have such command. I also played "Yakkety" at least a thousand times when i was 18- 22 and played 300 nights a year. Love Boots, Sil Austin, Red Prysock, Rusty Bryant,King Kolax etc. JAMES CARTER is absolutely the keeper of the flame. Some people say it´s too vulgar, I say, but can you do it?1
Saya sangat terharu dengan kombinasi pecahan Accord saxophone...Bapak ini..., Hampir semua Cord music orkesnya dilintasi saxophone...dan nada saxophonenyapun membentuk motif...dari cord yg tidak menggangu jalannya bentuk/motif sederhana Song Dany Boy... tesSKYRIMaddict - Your question is a good one and difficult to answer. I can't tell ether what he is playing on by this video, but I know that Boots played different mouthpieces guys would custom make for him to his personal liking. I know he played a Selmer (metal) jazz mouthpiece sometimes and I know Bobby Dukhoff made him one he really liked. To me, the mouthpiece outer dimensions look to "fat" to be a Beechler. Boots could PLAY eh?!
OK...I looked at this again. Boots is using the mouthpiece Bobby Dukhoff made him! That's my story and I am sticking to it. The guys at The Selmer Co. (Paris) always outfitted boots with a shinny new Selmer because he was always on TV and everyone always loved this guy. This sax was a new Selmer Super Action 80 (You can tell it doesn't have the front F pearl like a Selmer Mk VI has).
selmer must have sold more saxes than all the other sax makers put together I play a king not I am not that good a player and a selmer to big sax for me
As a Jazz Tenor player I think that Boots never had the credit he so thoroughly deserved.
Agreed 🎷
Neither did altoist Earl Bostic. Both very powerful players.
This will be played at my funeral. Just a performance of exquisite talent and belief. Thanks Boots for giving us this to cherish. R.I.P Boots
He has been my idol since 1967 when I started playing the sax. He is the most awesome horn man who ever wet a reed. Platinum sax!!!!

The legend lives on!
No one plays like you... Boots, we miss you...
I grew up playing by ear to boots my grandparents introduced him to me I’ve never heard a sax sound like boots made it sound he is the G.O.A.T

I totally agree!
Boots is/was the grand master of tenor sax.

Beautiful! Thanks for posting. Boots never gets the credit he deseerves for being a monster player.
Wilson
Boots is the only reason my dad bought me a saxophone in 1979. God bless both, I still play and with o-oclock NT guys. on pro jobs. still.
Gawd, he had the mix of the old greats, the clear sounds of Eddie Lockjaw Davis and Coleman Hawkins,, and the modern country sounds to boot, pardon the pun, LOL.. Such a hard place to be in, in those days.
This isn't how you PLAY sax...this's making the sax sing. Boots were damn good at that...
Boots is the absolute best, hands down!
Boots was saxophone boss in the modernism of King Curtis (1937 -1971) - with extra jazz hors d'oeuvres as embellishments.
He sure played the whole horn. Listening to Boots was a "guilty pleasure" for me back in the 60s and 70s. He wasn't "cool" but I listened and unconsciously modeled my own playing on his. Yes you are right, he wasn't 'cool' but I've been listening to him for 60 years and was an inspiration to me those years ago.
I tried modeling him and found it impossible. He is the master in my opinion.
Best damn sax player in 112 different star systems!
No boundaries to art.
Boots is a bad ass, pure and simple!
Un des meilleurs saxophonistes... ❤❤❤.
Un style unique... Personnellement à lui❤❤🎉🎉❤❤

I got to see him once, and he was awesome.

There will never be another boots Randolph.
Just so smooth and easy to listen to !
Yes, yes! Ben Webster nods his big head appreciatively.
I was working in Vegas 1969-74. heard Boots live at the Sahara Hotel every time i could.

...JAMES CARTER.. Saw him in Melbourne at Bennett's lane and he really is like he seems....so full-on I don't know how he does it
Holy hell that's good...cheers Boots!

2:57 Lenny Pickett on SNL
I want this melody to play on my sax, who have to give me ?

Selmer Omega (USA).
O sax era uma extensão dele
Love this guy, but I can’t help thinking he forgot which tune he was playing. Never mind his other stuff makes up for it
Looks like a Berg Lawson mouthpiece to me.
I think Randolph's setup included the Dukoff Silverite D9 with his Selmer Mark VI.
Boo Hargis: sorry, but it's named 'Berg Larsen'.
dit is danny als mens ..
Boots had a great sound and was a hell of a sax playerr. Pity he made far 2 less great albums and 2 many kitch. jmho
selmer must have sold more saxes than all the other sax makers put together I play a king not I am not that good a player and a selmer to big sax for me
Read all the comments. You better all listen to Sill Austin on this one. Send boots back to the woodshed.
Danny Boy my favorite song..but Mr Randolph made its not so good as usually😒😒😄😄
