    The Leica Q2 Monochrom is a really fun camera to use, especially if you enjoy taking photos in black and white without using a simulation option like with other cameras.

    I have an SL2 and a CL, and a bucket-load of Sony alphas. Love 'em all. But my Q2 Mono is the Queen. Most of the time, she's just sitting on my desktop, even if I'm not working on photos.

  • @Powerreserve

    I gave it a lot of thought as I already own the SL2 and am super happy with that system and the delivered quality. But after testing the Q2M for a day I’ve decided to buy: its unique and the small size combined with the amazing picture quality give it that extra fun-factor. Also the stealth factor appeals to me: people don’t notice the camera that quick and if they do, its not recognized as an expensive camera: I like that a lot.

    Great review and very much my thoughts too. I bought the Q2M last winter after trying it in Wetzlar for a day. Initially thought it would be a bit better than my X-Pro with Acros, but it turns out to be a different league altogether. The tonalty and beautiful contrast together with the razor sharp lens is gorgeous. Even when cropped to 35mm it is great. True it is an expensive camera, but here in Europe it’s ‘only’ 500 euros more than the Q2, so not too bad I’d say. I use it next to my Z7II that I use for professional work and the combo is great also for personal stuff.

  • @JLStreetDoc

    I’m glad it’s 28mm. I like the wide look and I can always crop for the 35mm. Sometimes with the 35mm you don’t have the space to step back. This gives you little extra you may need.

    I have a Sony system (A1 and A9) which I love, but I have just bought a Q2M as a fun camera. I did have a colour Q2 that I also loved, but had to sell it. I just think that these cameras can push your creativity, simply by having severe limitations. The Sony’s can do everything very well, which makes them less challenging. Also, I think I am bored being in lockdown!

      It took work to alter the original q2. Plus these are going to be sold way less, which also naturally raises the price. I don't want to defend Leicas prices (although I think they aren't overpriced) but the difference is totally normal.

    I still shoot a lot of BW film because of the look and I have very rarely seen BW from a colour sensor that grabs me. To me, shooting with a colour sensor is no different that printing BW from colour negs, YUCK. But I am always weighing which camera, light and small 35 or 645 for street, or RB and 4x5 for a little more hardcore approach. I really feel this would be able to replace most of my film cameras so my plan is to get one for christmas.

    I’ve the first leica M Monochrom and love it , then the M10 monochrom come out I hesitate to change to new M10 , mind you I’ve the M10 and love the M system . I do have the Q1 and to me it is the best fix lens camera in the world and the Monochrom mode on the Q is very good far better than any camera. Like Sony , fujifilm ..... . Here my question is the Monochrom q2 and the Monochrom M10 which one better or they are identical . As a enthusiastic hobby shooter I say we need both colour and Monochrom just to satisfy ours hobby to the best . You can convert colour to B&W but it is not the same .

    I like the idea of a monchrome only camera but imagine it's your second body for a job and the client asks for colour versions of the the photos? You'ld have to be a super ballsy photographer to only do monochrome. Which renders this a hobbyist camera I think.

There is one thing only though, and i can see it in your photos too - on ISO 800 or higher, there are hot pixels :( Capture One can easily clean them automatically but LR doesn't do it. Thanks for your reply I suppose there also is a video/filming option with the new cmos version. I still use CCD Nikons and they are great for black and white, the grain and transitions look very filmic. So I wondered if the Leica CCD monochrome produced more « filmic/organic » pictures than the cmos ones.

      @martinrumfeld8593 Před 3 lety +2

      @@fthprodphoto-video5357 Hello, I do have the Original M9M with the CCD Sensor and yes it produces more filmic images, also because the Base ISO is 320. You can shoot at until 3200 or 6400 iso without any problem, which is kind of nice for the time it was developed.
      The CMOS Sensors are far better in Low Light of course and goes up to 100.000 Iso. Once I wrote privately with a famous dutch war photographer who only shoots black and white and who appeared in a Leica Marketing show for the Leica M10M. His only comment about the M10M was "Well, sometimes its fun to shoot at 100.000 iso", he prefers the M9M by far though for its image rendering. Regards

      @@martinrumfeld8593 ahah must be a Dutch thing, I am also Dutch/Swiss ! I really like the output of CCD and Foveon sensors they output amazing color separation, the CCD sensors almost look like slide film and both are amazing for b&w conversions. I wondered if the first Leica M monochrom equipped with a ccd sensor had a more filmic image look than the cmos Leica monochrom. If someone could make a comparison it would be great 😊

    Fast enough for street, speed is not it's strength though... could you expand on this? Would you not use it for sports at all? If 10 frames/sec burst is fast enough for my sports work on Sony a6000 with an F2.0 lens, would it be fast enough on Leica Q2Mono? Day/good light shooting only
