The chaingun shield is actually starting to be my favorite chaingun mod. It does slow you, but at the same time protects you against an appreciable amount of damage, and doesn't prevent you from double jumping and dashing unlike the destroyer blade (in fact, dashing into enemies with the shield up will interrupt them); and unlike the looks suggest, the shield actually protects you from ALL SIDES, not just the front (yes, even the burning ground from Archviles). The mastery on it is the cherry on top of the cake, allowing you to interrupt whatever you were shooting at if you landed enough hits with the shield up.. even super heavies, which are prime targets for this to happen.
The turret mode has better DPS of course, but the shield offers you extra safety and gives more controlled firepower, allowing you to profit more from glory kills... and the damage per bullet remains the same, it's just that one shoots faster, while the other gives you extra time to shoot from relative safety (also, it bothers me to not know exactly how much of a fire rate increase the turret mode actually is)

The lock-on is just so much better at removing high threats from a fight instantly. Whiplash, cacodemon, revenant, and hell knights all die with one lock on. The other heavies such as mancubus, pain elemental, and arachnotron will die with one lock on and then a switch into the ballista.

Thanks for the guide, very well made! Here are some other mod uses I've found:
    > Bottomless Micro missiles are awesome against the last 2 bosses in the game. Reason being is you can reliably do a lot of damage while moving at top speed.
    > Full auto shotgun can be used to falter knights early in the game until you get the chaingun.
    > The chaingun shield is great at protecting you from fodder and ranged attacks while you kill a single pursuit enemy (knights, whiplash, or an already damaged baron). Once it's done, you have to move though since other enemies will have caught up.
    > The microwave beam and fully upgraded precision scope can both cause damage to a group of enemies by targeting a fodder enemy in the middle of that group. That being said, I only use the plasma rifle for shield guys, so the mods on it aren't important to me.
    > For some reason, I like remote det better than lock on burst... I don't have a good reason, so it might be personal preference.

Yeah I agree for the Rocket Launcher. The remote detonate gets better especially when the Proximity upgrade is put in place require you to focus less and the Mastery is good as well. And honestly the mastery for the Lock-On is probably the most annoying mod in the game just because it at first you upgrade the lock on to go faster then you master the mods to get two lock-on just for it to take the original amount of time. Makes no sense and I hate that once you lock on if the demon turns a corner the rockets aren’t smart enough to follow. They just go into the wall. And if you lock on half the time a another demon will just jump in front of them 😂

My personal experiance based modifications ranking.
*Note: This has been made before i watched the video*
    *Combat Shotgun:*
Sticky Bombs - Always reliable in most situations, with many uses. A solid counter to Mancubi's, Arachnotrons, Revenants, Cacodemons and Marauders. Full ugrade makes it even more reliable.
Full auto - A high DPS fast fire ratio damage source. Mostly a situational mod, since it uses up a lot of shotgun ammo and slows you down. Super Shotgun is a better alternitive.
    *Super Shotgun:*
Meathook - Nothing much to say about it. Useful in all sutuations, used for offense or running away. Even more useful with the fire upgrade. Great counter to Marauders.
    *Heavy cannon:*
Percision Bolt - A very heavy counter towards Mancubi's, Arachnotrons and Revenants. Also able to one shot most folter enemies. A must-have for makyr drones.
Micro Missiles - Not as useful as the 2016 counterpart. Situational, pretty allright at taking out a large crowd of folters. Much better with the never-ending upgrade, but still less useful than the Percision Bolt
    *Chaingun:*
Energy Shield - Always a reliable modification. Able to tank most damage dealt while also dealing damage, not restrictng movement. One of the weapons with both very good mods that require switching.
Mobile Turret - Very high DPS, destructive and unstopabble force. The shield takes a defensive approach when the turret goes all on offense. Best used against Hell Knights, Dreadknights and Barons of Hell.
    *Plasma Rifle:*
Heat Blast - A mod that pretty much praises you for just using it. At stage 3, deals mass amount of damage while also disturbs most of enemies. With an upgrade, deals more damage after stage 3 shockwave. Great counter to Doom Hunters
Microwave Beam - Too situational. Takes a lot of time to blast a heavy demon while also restricts your movement. The one use however that i found for this mod is checking the health of your opponent - The bar below never goes down and gives you an understanding of how hurt a demon is. Can also be used to finish off some demons. Pretty good with the flame belch.
Also pretty good at taking out the Doom Hunter's shield.
    *Ballista:*
Arbalest - The ballista itself is a heavy counter to flying enemies. With the mod, you're pretty much guaranteed to one shot a cacodemon, revenant in air and 2-3 shot a Pain Elemental. Can be used as a sticky bomb. Good counter to marauders.
Destroyer Blade - Great if used smart. The Destroyer Blade hinders your movement drastically, so it's best to use it under cover. Very high damage dealting AOE shot that one shots folter and some heavy enemies, staggering, also dealing mass amounts of damage. Tho in my opinion it's better to use Remote Detonation Rocket Launcher for taking out groups, since it doesnt restrict movement.
    *Rocket launcher:*
Remote Detonate - Very useful against large groups of demons and for hindering heavy attacks. With an upgrade, the explosion is bigger making it even more effective. Be aware tho, that you may end up accidentally blasting a rocket in your own face.
Lock-On Burst - Great for taking out a single demon or two if the upgrade is aquired. One rocket barrage can take out or severly hinder most heavy enemies. Very useful against mobile targets like Whiplashes and Prowlers. Also one of the weapons that will have you switching mods quite frequently.
    *BFG:*
Unmakyr - Yes i know its a seperate weapon, but considering that the button to switch it is the same as the mod switch button i will consider this a mod. Eitherway, it's very situational most of the time. Use this if you see no fun in blasting everything with the BFG or if you want to deal heavy damage to a heavy demon and still be able to glory kill it. Pretty useful with the flame belch combo against very heavy demons.

Even when I use heat blast when I actually want, I feel it doesn't do anything. Though it is good to take out weak points, even when you don't have ammo, or when nades are on cooldown and you get crowded (which for me is very rarely).

Having played only a little, I picked the same mods at first except for the rocket launcher. I feel like this mod deserves more love as it is a great way to deal AoE damage and hit fast demons that are not in clear sight. It can also hit the back of pinkies facing you if you use it right which is something not many weapons can do. I remember a fight in DOOM 2016 in particular in UN where I found this mod to be a life saver (in Lazarus Labs a room filled with boxes and imps near the end). I would admit though that with weak spots and such it's probably not as good anymore and lock on seems to be a little better than in 2016.

Disagree, with the mastery, the destroyer blade is really strong, even then, a full charged blade basically wipes out an entire arena if aimed right, and basically takes half health off some of the most powerful demons in the game.
The way it basically just chops all demons in half including the arachnatron and the fatbois is killer. The mastery allows you to fire a more focused blade at any point too, so if you just wanna kill the arachnatron, you only have to charge for a few seconds.

Destroyer blade is one of the best mods. You can just disintegrate everything and it doesn't slow you down if you use bars, jumppads or even a simple double jump. And you don't have to charge it fully every time. You can charge it to 1 or 2 stage to destroy prowler, carcass or someone else. You could also use a cryogrenade and 3 stage of destroyer blade to instantly kill a group of heavy demons. Remote-det is good in those big open arenas because you will be able to see and time your rocket to kill/stagger tons of fodder at once
Destroyer blade is also good for killing tons of fodder in a big open arena

Micro missiles are okay but you should really only use the Assault Rifle for the Precision bolt and use the plasma rifle as your backup until you get the Arbalest and the Chaingun and reverse the rolls. Both shotgun mods are great too although Grenades have more use early on and against Cacao Demons. Both mods of the Plasma Rifle are useful but the Heat Blast is definitely better. I think you kind of underplayed lock on missiles because it's very good if you get the right upgrades, and remote burst is good for doing combos with the Arbalest at a distance where the Meathook wouldn't be useful.

  • @ZerkinzTV
    @ZerkinzTV Před 2 lety

In my experience, the MOBILE TURRET mode of the CHAINGUN does NOT even use more AMMO per/second than the base Chaingun +/- Shield mod; on the contrary, it actually CONSUMES LESS: roughly 10 rounds per second, in my estimation. The only difference, as far as I can tell, is that there is a ramp up time of maybe 0.5 seconds before the base Chaingun +/- Shield mod reaches its maximum firing rate of something in the realm of 12 - 15 rounds per second.
Also, watch the 2 videos of each mod killing the Mancubus, i think, and you will see there there is effectively no practical difference in the damage output of the turret mode. I counted in the 1-one-thousand, 2-one-thousand, 3-one-thousand style, and the turret mode preview/tutorial video killed the Mancubus is ~4 seconds... the base Chaingun +/- the Shield mod killed a Mancubus in ALMOST the same time -- roughly ~4.5 seconds.
Now you must keep in mind that in the tutorial videos, they are not precisely duplicating the aiming of the other, so it's ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that the hardly noteworthy ~0.5 second increase on length of kill w/ the base Chaingun +/- Shield mod was due to either (a) less efficient use of weak point hitboxes, or (b) within an acceptable margin of error.
/-//--///> I just had a thought. My estimated rate of fire for the base Chaingun being roughly 50% higher than the MOBILE TURRET mod activated, and the MOBILE TURRET's weapon model has 12 barrels, rather than the 8 barrels that comes on the base version. I'm thinking, since they kill things in roughly the same time, regardless, that the MOBILE TURRET ROUNDS could be actually doing 50% MORE DAMAGE, yet will consume 33% less rounds per a given timeframe than the base Chaingun [ + / - ] Shield mod. This would simply mean that the MOBILE TURRET mode is more AMMO EFFICIENT, allowing you to fire it for longer. If you don't believe that the increase in damage (if it turns out to be ~50% on TURRET mod) would perfectly negate it's REDUCED RATE OF FIRE (~33% reduction on RATE OF FIRE w/ TURRET mod.. again, ~10 rounds p/sec vs ~15 rounds p/sec at base Chaingun's RAMPED UP RATE OF FIRE (~0.25 to ~0.5 sec ramp up time)).
/-//--///---////> Put yourself in the dev's shoes. How else would you handle upgrading a base Chaingun to a TURRET mode with 50% more physical barrels on the weapon model? You can't increase the rate of fire AND each round's damage, as it would scale multiplicatively! Furthermore, just increasing rate of fire would increase DPS, but I bet money that a 33-50% increase in DPS resulting from an increased RATE OF FIRE would go beyond the designer's generally anticipated maximum DPS threshold, which has to be a universally relevant & applicable soft cap throughout the game's development that can be relied upon as a cornerstone, ruler, or a kind of universal constant.
/-//--///---////> In that regard, the speed of light has many similarities, in that it has many fundamental limitations & implications about how the universe was created or came to exist, and what reasons there might be [if any] for its current state of existence, which is comprised of notable things, such as: universal equations, laws, & transcendental numbers, e.g.: Phi &, Pi, that the devs & designers can keep in the forefront of their mind as their game continues to develop.
/-//--///---////> Two Core Equations that the devs must be acutely aware of the answers to, as well as how the general gameplay dynamic changes when the ratio representing the comparative differential between the results of the equations on either side of the colon( : ). Put simply: the further away from whatever ratio values the devs & designers have deemed to be generally ideal, the bigger the possible range of values, the wider the spectrum of possible outcomes will be to occur inside your game's: engine, environment, AI, animations, damage/defense/movement values from the ratio that relates both equations' results both well-tuned and imbalanced between:
    //==================================================//>
    Equation [1]: [ Demons_Max_HP / Players_Anticipated_Max_DPS ] + Average_Target_Acquisition_Time = Anticipated_Demons Time_to_Die
    Equation [2]: [ Demons_Movement_Speed * Average_Spawn_Distance_From_Player ] + Attack_Animation_Duration = Anticipated_Minimum_Pose_Risk_Time.
    //==================================================//>
Numerically represent the the relational difference between the results of both equations using a...
    RATIO => { Equation[ 1 ][ Result ] } : { Equation[ 2 ][ Result ] }
/-//--///---////> Both need to be precisely tuned, as if they are not in balance w/ one another, the more common it will possible for players to kill your demons before they're actually able to pose any risk whatsoever with a even a single outlier in the realm of high end weapon DPS, and this is obviously not interesting, engaging, challenging, OR fun.
/-//--///---////> If the TURRET mod simply increased RATE OF FIRE, and left damage unchanged, it would increase the weapon's DPS, but it would also reduce the length of time you could continuously less loose firing uninterrupted (ESPECIALLY before you get the TURRET mod mastery which removes the overheat mechanic), and this would undoubtedly be comparatively lamer, gameplay FEEL-wise.
/-//--///> I bet this is the exact conundrum that they found themselves in, and some 5head came along and thought to do what should've ran precisely contrary to what the difference in weapon model should've implied - more rounds per second. This would also do a lot to explain why they ADDED an overheat mechanic on the TURRET mode, as well: the cost of gaining the effect of your rounds doing 50% more damage (the actual practical difference here, since DPS stays the same, is that you do the same dmg per second with less ammo usage per second, at least up until you overheat the activated TURRET mod, until you earn/unlock the TURRET's weapon mastery that completely removes the overheat mechanic).
Am i missing something?? lmao.. and unmodded or shield modded has no potential to overheat itself ever, whereas when using the turret mod you need to get the final weapon mastery before you regain that otherwise inherent trait of the Chaingun. Turret is one probably the shittiest weapon mod in the game, honestly -- especially when you factor in that it's direct competitor -- the shield mod for Chaingun -- is probable to be objectively the best mod in game, if not the flaming meat hook.

It is great against stronger enemies like hell knights and everyform of them, barons, doom hunters, whiplashes etc. Because not only does it deal good damage, it falters demons giving you even more chances to deal damage. Chaingun shield is also another one of my favorites due to dash shielding and faltering demons, handcannon missles are also another good one cause once you upgrade them more and more they are powerful. Sticky Bombs, Arbalest, and Mobile Turret are by far the best mods in the game. Sticky bombs is probably the most versatile mod in the game. Mobile Turret turns demons into Swiss cheese and the Arbalest is a one shot monster. And in terms of mastery I think they have the best as well. You get five shots instead of three before reloading for the Stickies which if you use it a lot you’ll know it’s a good upgrade. Unlimited Cooling for the turret is a no brainer and the Instant Salvo mastery for the Arbalest is probably the most rewarding for people who hit their shots with the Ballista.

    - Full Auto > Sticky bombs any day. (Only after you get the ballista though) It's an amazing mod to finish off combos on heavys with, especially with the mastery. A baron will return 9 shells.
    - PB is love, PB is life. Not a fan of the Micro Missiles either.
    - Microwave Beam > Heat Blast for me. (Although heat blast is still good if you use the plasma rifle.) The MB is a misunderstood beast. Use it to momentarily stop and stun advancing Barons and Knights or stop pesky Prowlers and Whiplashes in their tracks for some quick easy shots. Also can be used on Maykr drones to line up easy headshots. You can also use the health readout for combos (mainly a good indicator of when to finish off a heavy or superheavy with full auto)
    - Lock on Burst and Remote Det are equal in my books. RD can easily take out groups of fodder that have been flame belched. If you detonate it above shield guys, it'll put them in to GK. You can detonate it behind Pinkys and Marauders for extra damage and use it to falter heavys.
    - Meathook < Meathook tbh but in certain cases Meathook > Meathook idk. It's a preference thing.
    - Agree on Arbalest but lately I've been finding that if you can get enough air, you can time the Destroyer Blade to release on landing and you don't really suffer any movement penalty.
    - I personally like the shield better for chaingun. Way more useful in nightmare when you actually need that defense. Also , I dunno if it's been fixed yet but dashing with the shield up causes massive damage.

    "Microwave beam is too situational"
Once you get other weapons the heat blast becomes useless. Why should I charge the heat blast if I can do a ballista ssg combo for example? In the later game the beam becomes much more useful at stunning fast pursuing enemies such as pinkies, hell nights, dread nights, hell barons, and it even destroys the doom hunter's shield faster, which makes an amazing opening for a lock on combo. The beam is an amazing mod I would pick it over heat blast even in early game because it is so versatile.

Not really, the heat blast is still a better choice for a quick hard falter in a quickswitch combo considering you can passively charge it while getting glory kills. It's also the only thing that can stop an armored baron while its armor is still on

Remote detonation is actually really good, it can hit marauders and pinkies

Lol they introduced a new enemy type in the DLC just to justify the use of the Microwave beam 😃

When I playing doom 2016 first
*Choose scope for heavy rifle and notice that is a trash
    When I playing Doom eternal
*choose micro missile for heavy cannon because of memory about doom 2016
Tutorial:crushing enemy’s weapon with the scope
    Me:fu*k this sh*t

Personally I really like the energy shield on chaingun (though mobile turret is still better in my opinion) getting any sort of breathing room in eternal is hard to come by, and the power of 6 seconds of invulnerability with a minigun should not be underestimated.
If they kept the remote detonation stuff from 2016 I'd be happy, but in eternal... I want to love it as much as I used to but the damage is too low to be worth the effort.
Full auto and micro missiles fall into the "worse chaingun" category

You can dash with shield, which is borderline busted

Microwave beam in regular doom eternal: I’m useless
Microwave beam in ancient gods: I’m very essential and you won’t get anywhere without me, it takes a lot of ammo but at least I can destroy the most annoying enemy in the game

I actually think the micro missiles are a good option as I prefer to use to the sticky bombs to take out weak points as I don't have the time slow rune and as I haven't unlocked the chain gun yet (I got the game for Christmas) they are the best option for dealing with hell knights when early in the game as from what from what I've played two to three successful volleys of the missiles can stagger a hell knight
