SME started the whole kpop scenario, HOT was the first kpop boy group from SM which came out in 96 and SES was the first kpop girl group also from SM which came out in 97, SM has been there since GEN1 thats why more people know about SM i think so, whereas JYP and YG started releasing new artists from GEN2. This is the reason why SM is also always on top, and they have had so many artists like HOT, SES, SHINHWA, BOA, TRAX, TVXQ, SUJU, SNSD, FX, EXO, SHINEE, RED VELVET, NCT, and Aespa the new girl group.

That's totally the main point why Yang Hyun Suk built YG ent. Their goal is to receive International recognition in the West. That' part of their marketing strategy which is a huge success. YG is YG... they have their own unique vibe and that uniqueness catches international fans like me since Bigbang and 2NE1 up to this day.... when i think of kpop, it always been YG artist in my head, the fashion, the style, the swag.... and YG have been in the industry for almost 25 years....another time will pass but if we look back to the forerunners of Kpop, YG indeed play the big part as to why Kpop is widely known now....thanks to social media because newer groups now are able to do well outside korea as well.... but YG without the help and power of social media before have managed and already reaching global market. Lets be honest... all of the artist who are not part YG anymore have no legal issues to the company and have their own of music becoz they teach them so well in creating music(cl, lee hi, bom, minzy taehyun and B.I) . SM have a lot of legal issues and JYP artist let go of their music after they are gone in the agency.

Personally, Big Hit is often not appreciated by most people because of the fact that Big Hit only focused its resources on BTS in the past 10 years, whilst all other entertainment companies had more than 1 group or artist to mold. I have friends who believe that if BTS didn't make it, Big Hit wouldn't be in their position right now.
I considered this argument, and I think he has a point because JYP, SM and YG at that time, when BTS was still rising to fame, were dealing with a lot of groups and it makes sense that they would not be able to focus everything on a particular group, although we all know when we say
JYP = TWICE
SM = EXO
YG = BLACKPINK
But when you actually look back, Big Hit was very strategic in the past - they focused all their resources and manpower into BTS and took that risk of either making it or failing. Now that they are so big, they are now formulating other strategies, like debuting their own groups (TXT, and then probably I-LANDers), or acquiring other small labels and so doing they are also acquiring other groups like GFRIEND, SEVENTEEN and NUEST, etc.
Moreover, Big Hit is not only focusing on music right now - they are developing games, merchandises, own mobile application (WEVERSE) and other stuff - in so doing fans will not only listen to songs, but they will be more invested into the artists themselves. This is genius work because K-pop is not just about music, it encompasses everything like cosmetics, fashion, music, food, variety shows, etc.

In addition to the above (these are based on your replies, guys lol), I sensed that Big Hit has a knack of seeing the future. 1) They let the guys have freedom on social media, especially Twitter and they only have one account so fans will only focus on them. 2) They did a lot of variety shows for the boys which shows the personality and quirks and character and dorkiness and fun side of the members which made the fans felt like they are normal persons with normal dreams and that they can relate to them. 3) They are very innovative. Also, realistically speaking, Big Hit could only really afford to focus on BTS at the time. They were a pretty small company and lacked a lot of resources and money. If they had to divide the little they had between two groups they probably would have been less successful. So they just made their ultimate choice of members for one group and put their all into them - and it worked.
How sad people are forgetting about YG. When YG is the company that mostly contributed to the growth of the kpop community. From 2ne1 to Bigbang to Psy and to Blackpink not to mention Ikon, Treasure and Winner. I mean though YG may not be as good in sales like they used to but then YG will forever be that YG that gave us high quality music and excellent performers.

I know bighit doesn't have a lot of groups so a lot of people say it can't really be classified as the big 3/4 but when you think about it, isn't it funny how the very first major group they have just happened to become the biggest group not just in kpop but the world and even surpass the groups by the "big3" with all those years of experience? It's a pretty impressive feat tbh and I do see a lot of potential with the company but of course, only time will tell
